Trey doesn't need to do anything but keep working to be better and when his shot comes whether here or elsewhere you make a fool out of any and all 49ers that doubted you

That would be my mentality and as a 49er fan, I sure would hate if he went elsewhere and got that shot and became a star as his ceiling would indicate he can be but that's life

Brock, if he wins out has earned it and he's cheap so we will see where this takes us

I smell Lance wanting out soon.

The smart play for him would be to keep grinding and showing great character and to say all the right things. When he does have a chance to show something he shows well. If he never gets the opportunity here he can hit free agency and get his shot elsewhere. The last thing he needs to do is be a sourpuss about this because that would show negatively for him outside of this team

I see Lance continuing to compete for both the one and the two throughout his tenure here and to do so with a great attitude

I would agree. If he senses that he has no QB1 future here due to BP.
From shanahan

"And he got that time going into his second year, and then he got hurt. Well, you look back to that training camp ... I really loved how our seventh-round draft pick (Brock Purdy) was playing. That didn't mean I was going to give him the reps Trey [deserved]."

And the truth shall set you free...

He felt he had to give trey the snaps just because of what was invested and where he was picked.

Kyle is a professional at getting his QBs hurt, literally batting 5/6 seasons. Lol so still a good chance he will play at some point.

he can want out all he wants but the question is whether a team wants him to be their starter or not. It's much more complicated than him just demanding to go elsewhere. Someone has to want him to be their starter enough to pay us what we want.
The ESPN app won't let me copy and paste but they posted an article of players who careers depend on this year going well and Lance was one of them.

it's just kinda funny cause the author is saying what a lot of us are saying "are they really moving on from Trey after a few starts?". Lol

I'm not a big Trey Lance fan, I don't dislike him, i just don't see him as becoming some great QB. Regardless how I feel, I think he should be QB2 and given all the first team reps that Brock isn't going to take. Then let him prove to the team that he can't handle it or someone else can do it better. When a guy is as raw as he is, those reps really matter. Giving them to darnold isnt nearly as impactful. I'm very surprised that they're doing an honest split with darnold & Lance. Seems very odd to me.

It isn't odd, if the goal is winning a SB. It's only odd, if you have developing Lance, as the goal, which it isn't.

Glad you're not a guy that's too into hyperbole.

You don't think Urban qualified as such? He's definitely up there as far as s**t coaching goes.

I personally would not want an unproven guy that wants to cry and run away without standing his ground and fighting where he is at. I would want a guy like Trey to say "hey, remember me? I am the third overall pick and I am gonna beat out this 7th round scrub!" If I were a GM I would side eye Trey for running away from the 49ers or demanding out. What you can't beat out a 7th rounder that has only played 8 games while you've played four? You won't even try?

I think Lance has a decent shot at unseating Brock, it all depends on his performance this year versus last year. Lance has to move the offense and score points when he's out there. I still believe in Lance.

Trey has the makeup to be a stud QB and the mentality and the work ethic and the age and the measurables. There is no way he won't be great somewhere once he gets the right opportunity. Might not be here but I know his type and the kid will be good

If it was so easy to determine the greatness of a qb then the bust rate for qbs would be zero. It's not.

Trey will be here competing for the one and two until his cheap contract ends or until he is the one. Only way I see a trade is if Brock clearly establishes himself as the franchise and then Trey is traded after the season prior to the draft or if we get an impact player in a trade for him during this season. We ain't just giving him up for something cheap

I am sure he will be a great starter somewhere. No different than I was sure after a couple games Brock could have a great chance at leading us to the postseason and to the big one with the team he had around him. It ain't easy to determine anything but I am sure Trey has what it takes from the physical and the mental. It then comes down to focus and work ethic. When you combine all the tangibles with elite intangibles and work ethic it becomes hard to make a mess of things. Dude is 23 and already I can see he has the traits but more importantly the work ethic

Then look at Brock. He has enough traits when healthy and you can see his work ethic already by how he hit the ground running last year and then his rehab this year. I am sure both Trey and Brock can be great QBs if they stay healthy. I am so high on Trey because of his elite measurables and his mentality. I think it gives him a great chance but it just may not be here
