I don't think that's where all the eggs went..

you are correct in that yes we need quite a few QBs, that's why adding Sam made a ton of sense

Adding a 3rd QB in general made a ton of sense. A starter-caliber QB had just left, and you usually don't go into a season with only 2.

In many cases it's because the most talented guys get picked early which usually means they go to a bad team. Trey was lucky because he ended up on a team with talent but he's had injuries. Now he has more competition with Brock playing way above projections and San Darnold who has talent but has been on bad teams.

The thing is, I'm thinking Kyle will draft another QB to compete with Sam at the QB3 positon, and if I was Kyle, I'd be drafting another experienced QB in the 7th, one with 4 or more years of college experience. With Kyle's luck in *drafting* QBs, that's a one and three hundred chance he gets another Brock Purdy.

I fixed it

I agree, I think your correction is more correct. Hitting on another Brock Purdy is probably very remote. More like, maybe after another 10 years of drafting QB's.

Which is exactly what he needs to work on….when someone says something about his throwing motion and it being related to inaccurate passes…it's like nails on a chalk board for me lol. People that complain about that, have no idea what they're talking about.

Lance has tattoos on his arm like Kap so maybe his release looks like Kap's release to them.

Tattoos and he's black

kap's issue IMO was he didn't see the field well and didn't throwing with anticipation. Dude could still play and clearly was black balled.

Eh, Kap's windup and release were longer to me than Trey's. Trey has a somewhat long windup but his release isn't actually slow. He's slow in the rest of the throwing phase, as far as I can tell (you can tell when he sees the open guy, and then there's often times this weird delay before he even starts throwing, adding unnecessary hitches. It's almost like he's gauging the distance). But the release isn't as slow as people think.

I agree about Kap's windup looking longer. The way Lance brings it low prior to the actual release seems like a wasted movement, but if you were to actually time the release with a stopwatch, my guess is Lance's isn't slow overall when compared to other QBs. But, I don't know much about QB mechanics.

Agree. I don't see any *real* problems with Trey's mechanics. When he set and threw in those few times last year, he looked good. It's all the other stuff that he needs game reps in. I agree with the folks that say give Trey some game reps and be patient with his mistakes and he will get better and better each game. Those injuries have robbed him of time though, as in time to develop. He's facing a recovering Brock who was lights out last year and a new guy in Sam Darnold who's - supposedly - almost as athletically gifted as he is. Trey will get his opportunities, but his margin for error and his time to develop has been drastically reduced because of said injuries.

His contract doesn't matter if your starter is making $900k. It's still a ridiculous low cap space for a QB room. If he's labeled a post June cut/trade they're eating half of it anyway.

you'd think people would realize after 20 years that SF goes though QBs like Jimmy G goes through pornstars. We've had 3 seasons of Garcia 2000-2002 and 2 yrs of Kap 2014-2015…everything else has been different QBs starting/getting hurt for two decades. People tossing all their eggs into the Brock basket off 170 passes and a shredded throwing elbow are off their rocker. We're gonna need all these QBs…like always.

And in 2019 with jimmy. His only fully healthy season.

The idea of Lance being traded is polarizing because we need as many capable QBs as possible based on our injury history but then there is his cap/trade value etc if he isn't playing.

For me personally, I'd probably keep all three guys we have, unless we get a really good trade offer. Which is what I think the team is doing. I don't think they're eager to move on from Lance and genuinely believe they can win games with him. I also think they realize he has his highest trade value right now because it's a year out from his fifth year option. So they're just testing the market - especially if Purdy is fine, Lance could be shipped out before the trade deadline.

we do tend to go through QBs like hot cakes and as much as I love Purdy, his recovery is an unknown variable that you can't rely too much on regarding timeline, since it's so rare. Even though I do think he will be just fine for week 1.

i trust the team to make whatever decision Is best. I'd want to get traded if I was Lance, if I'm not starting, just to get some play time.

Really? I'm not being obnoxious when I say this - I've read that his mechanics need help, which is a reason his accuracy is all over the place, but I really don't know. I honestly thought every qb worked on their mechanics (the basics) in the off season.

i figured after the better part of a year of not being able to walk/throw normally that it would be a huge focus.

Whomever you read it from they're dumbasses. It's his footwork and just about every legit QB coach will say that's where your accuracy comes from. Footwork and timing.

he along with every QB will always be working on their mechanics. He's doing it right not with Quincy Avery then with 3DQB. They aren't going to redevelop his throwing motion though…because it's not a problem.

People acting like Trey is terrible throwing the ball...

If he can hit this type of pass or some of the throws he made in that Chicago weather, it's just about consistency. It doesn't mean he's inaccurate. Inaccurate means he can't get the ball to where it needs to be.

This is perfect placement into a super tight window.

That's why experience and development is key to any QB. But someone who can make those throws becoming consistent at them...gives you a damn hard QB to plan for.

He has a cannon and can be a killer from the pocket.

I have seen him make some beautiful passes and I haven't seen enough bad passes to say he is inaccurate.

"He's competing for an NFL backup job with Sam Freaking Darnold."

basically heard 100x NFL insiders, news sources, journalists, former QBs including 49er QBs (Carr) saying it's a comp here, maybe cuz it is..

between Sam and TL

I think TL has odds thanks to it being year 3 in the O and the investment KS/JL made

I do see a comp here between Sam and TL, like so many others are seeing as well, and KS essentially announced..

wouldn't surprise me if it's Sam.. I'll put it that way..

maybe a 60/40 situation

Battle of 3 overall to avoid being 3

I do feel whoever wins this is our Week 1 starter
I'm with Conor Orr on this. If they dont give Lance another shot they're crazy. It's easy to because Purdy is hurt.

I'd like to see Lance get another chance but Only if he earned it and not just handed to him. If darnold is as bad as everyone says - he shouldn't have a difficult time beating him out.

Lance has never had to earn anything so far during his time in the league. He was given QB2 as a rookie and QB1 his second year, both uncontested, and I understand why they did that. I'm not saying they shouldn't have, but it is going to be interesting how he responds being challenged. I think he will be just fine, but it is uncharted territory for him in the pros. It'll be fun to watch darnold too because even though he has sucked, he's improved on his play this last season and his skill set does fit our offensive philosophy really well. It'll be great competition that should make both better.

it's going to test his mental fortitude on how he responds to it, which I think he's just fine in that regard. It'll just be cool to see him go through that.

he will get his opportunities during camp but there is still a chance Purdy will be ready to go week 1, as well. It's going to be fun to see how this all plays out.
