If they win the SB he'll be expected to maybe guide them back for a repeat. If they don't he'll be expected to finally get that SB win that they couldn't get with Jimmy. Either way it's not going to be easy for him.

Being pressured comes with the job as a QB. How will Lance perform under pressure and guide his team, because not every win is gonna be a blow out. Lance will take some L's, how will he handle criticism, not every reporter and fan is gonna give him praise. I'm praying this doesn't turn out to be another Alex Smith type situation, then again at least Lance has a veteran offensive HC with a playoff built team. Unlike Alex Smith who had a rookie defensive HC, musical chairs at OC and probably one of the worst defenses in the NFL at the time.

I'm concerned because he had so little experience in college and has very little playing time n the last 2 years. I would feel a lot better if he had at least a half dozen starts under his belt. You have to admit that as fans. we're going in with high expectations based on a very small body of work. I can't remember any 49er QB ever starting a season with so little experience. At least Alex Smith had 2 full seasons in college and played at a higher level of competition.

He won his team a late season must win game against an NFL team. I'll take that over any amount of college experience.

Oh trust me I'm totally there with you on this. Which is why I was against picking Trey Lance so high and giving up all these picks for him. But of course whatever he did in college goes away now that he's most likely gonna be starting next season AND most likely to be in the same system for the next 5 seasons.

But it was still only one game and he beat an inferior team lets not kid ourselves that Houston had any chance of beating the 9ers. The NFL will get much tougher when you're a full time starter and teams have a full body of film on you.
It's okay to be optimistic. That's what it means to be a fan. Many fans just predict a win every week without any real basis. Just like some predict Jimmy will have a big game every week even though he rarely has big games. The way this team is designed, if the QB has a big game it's because the running game has been bottled up or the defense has collapsed and given up a lot of points.

We're all hoping Trey is the next great 49ers QB but unil we see it on the field it's all just wishful thinking.
Is everyone prepared for a Trey Lance start or extended appearance in the NFC Championship Game?

I'm all here for it, but I highly doubt it. Even with The Sudfeld stuff yesterday.

Houston was having a late season surge when we played them

They had just upset the Chargers the week before
After our game they gave #1 seed TENN all they could handle in a 25-28 loss

The passing D of Houston is respectable and made Herbert look bad...it was not a "gimme" game for us

Early in the game they stopped our run and DARED SF to beat them with the passing game...we had NOTHING until the 2 min drill (more like 38 second drill)

When KS finally turned Trey loose to sling the ball the offense got rolling...most of our offensive production came in half a game of football

Then you take a look at it from our QB position

Rookie with little starting experience in a MUST WIN game or the playoffs are gone

Did he collapse under that pressure or perform?
I am reading that Sudfield move as the niners must be considering some packages that have trey on the field for a play or two. Perhaps a look or two that shanahan loves but never had the right opportunity to use in the regular season. Seems like not the right time for this type of thing though. The other explanation is maybe Trent isn't going today which opens the possibility that with the rams pass rush there is an elevated enough risk that we end up with our third string qb on the field. Although at this point I am just having Deebo play qb and see what happens.

Deebo throwing a TD to Lance.

With Kyle,...just about anything is possible. Jimmy would have to be stinking it up a little tho, tbh.

Last game GB over committed to stop our runs

KS is know for using counter plays to make you pay for that

The counter for the inside run is a QB keeper around the edge while Deebo draws them in the middle

I don't think Jimmy G would run it...but maaaaaybe a red zone package with Trey?

Houston was playing tough when we played them. It was a high pressure situation and the kid delivered. The fact he could be so young and inexperienced, and show enough progress to beat an NFL team in a must-win game speaks to his mental development and vast potential.

True. Houston beat the Chargers the week before in a game that ended up costing them the playoffs and then only lost by 3 to Tennessee in week 18. They weren't as bad as their record showed and if we lose that game we're not in the playoffs.
