Rookie: red shirt season/ learning Shannys complex playbook
sophomore: first year as full-time starter with a year of studying the playbook under his belt, still green as a player, but ton of promise with a good chance to compete in the playoffs
3rd season: he's ready to go, shows us why we traded so much for him as the team contends for a super bowl and Trey becomes a yearly mvp candidate
It's not even about the playbook though...Kyle said the kid had no problem digesting it. The problem is he hasn't played football. His rookie yr will be his sophomore yr if he doesn't play meaningful snaps this yr.
Learning the playbook doesn't mean anything if you don't get to apply it during live reps (game speed). You can watch all the film in the world, but that means nothing if you can't see it with guys coming down on you every play... It's much different seeing cover 0 pre-snap only to see them switch to zone with JJ Watt/Jones coming down on you vs a coach asking you what you would do while watching the film... You can't replicate that by sitting on the bench.
IMO I think he should start as soon as he's healthy. I get Jimmy going in if Kyle
truthfully thinks he gives this team a massively better chance to win ( I don't think there's that much of an advantage though, just my opinion). BUT as soon as he either gets hurt again, plays like avg joe, or loses a couple games, Trey without question should play and should play for the rest of the season.
