Should the 49ers trade JG this year?

No. Insurance is more important than a 3rd round draft pick at this point. I want Super Bowls, not more Witherspoons and Beathards.

No. I like JG I hope he stays healthy and get us a SB win.
If we draft a QB at #3 then definetely.
I'd trade him back to to the Patriots for a 3rd.

A 3rd right now isn't going to help us more this season than keeping Jimmy on the roster.
If they need the money for something better yes. There's going to be a credibility issue between Jimmy and management that will never go away. Best for both parties to get a divorce if the situation is what it actually appears to be publicly. If it's all a smoke screen for some even more crazy Draft Day Shenanigans then who knows
If they can get a 2nd and if they actually have a plan on using the salary cap space now by extending Warner and signing a few more free agents, yes.
if all goes well the rookie will excel by the time preseason is over and the team should trade Jimmy to recoup picks next year(s)

Really? And what team do you support?
We also have to see how Jimmy reacts to knowing he's probably gone after this year. He may have a great year and increase his trade value. They might also have an issue in the locker room if he feels too much pressure from the rookie.
Just because a team drafts a QB at 3 doesn't mean that QB should start. If they drafted a QB at 12 now it's ok for that QB to sit for a year? Anyone using the argument said QB must start because he was drafted so high is delusional. It's an archaic way of thinking and people like that are getting left behind in this league. Most teams don't have the luxury of picking so high with a QB already on the roster that is good. That's the reason they start a QB as a rookie. The rookie QB is their best option. The 49ers rookie QB is not going to be the best option this year, period. Plus, don't most teams want a capable backup QB? If they trade Jimmy and the rookie gets hurt, now what? Rosen? Lol to the pro trade Jimmy this year group

Side note: The argument about saving money because of the cap ended a few weeks ago. All the restructuring has this team sitting pretty this year and the cap is going to jump substantially the next few years. Money should not be an argument about trading Jimmy this year.

Part of the pressure to start QBs sooner is he cap. If you can have a starting QB playing on a rookie salary for 4 years, it gives you more money to pay your vets each year. We've gotten to the point where unless you are a true top 10 QB every year, you're likely to get traded or released when the team drafts a new guy. Even top 10 QBs can be in danger if they've been in the league for around 10 years and their salary has exploded. It's todays NFL, like it or not.

I understand what you're saying but it doesn't apply to the 49ers THIS year. They get that Rookie for cheap on a 4 year deal with a 5th year option, I get it. The 49ers aren't dealing with a cap issue this year. They won't have an issue with the cap going forward just because Jimmy stays this year either. He'll be off the books next year and the cap is going to explode over the next few years.
At this point, you have to trade him. All the lip service about he's our guy "this year" is getting tired.
Im sure the trade will happen closer to the draft.
at least he made millions
can't force a rookie QB to start so need Jimmy G this year!
