According to popular opinion Jones' ceiling isnt high enough and Lance is far too raw to justify the draft capital spent to get to #3... so that leaves Fields who is like the happy medium between Jones' accuracy and Lance's athleticism. (Assuming Wilson goes 2)

I would say Wilson vs. it was a bad move

They could just want to be in the drivers seat for what could be one of the better draft classes for QBs. Say they want Mac Jones but know that they can continue to trade back from 3. They could trade back twice and stack multiple future firsts to replenish the firsts we just lost. Those firsts could be more valuable because those teams will still suck. At the end of the day they could end up with the QB they wanted at 12 gained picks along the way.

Scenario:
1. Jags: Lawerence
2. Jets: Wilson
3. Falcons: Fields/ 49ers gain future 2nd and third this year.
4. Lions: Lance/ 49ers gain future 1st and another 3rd this year.
5. Bengals: OT/ Sewell
6. Dolphins: OT/ Slater?/ ER?
7. 49ers: Mac Jones

3 firsts plus a 3rd for a rookie qb. Why is that not right? Let's say miami drafted trey lance at #3. The 49ers give up #12 2021, 2022 1st and 2023 1st and 2021 for trey lance. That's three firsts and a third for trey lance. Why is that hard to understand.

You're wrong. It's a swap of 2021 first rounders, plus a 2022 1st rounder and a 2023 1st rounder. The 3rd rounder is the 2022 compensatory pick they got for losing Mayhew. That's like a 4th rounder. At least that's the story I read.
