Then we really got the pick of the litter

I'll eat a shoe if the Jets take Mac at #2. It's not happening.

It's Lawrence at 1, Wilson at 2 and we have to hope Kyle/Lynch aren't buffoons and that they correctly pick Fields at 3.

I'm still so bummed. The moment this trade happened I was so ecstatic that we locked in one of Wilson/Fields. No disrespect to Mac but I wish he wasn't even on the radar right now

Don't underestimate the contagiousness of Jets ineptitude

I mean with the Jets AND the Jags picking before us. Something dumb is pretty much guaranteed to happen. The Jags drafted Leonard Fournette at #4 overall! And the Jets? We all know about Darnold...

Just saying if it somehow went Wilson/Fields/Lawrence to us I wouldn't even be that surprised. Draft day be wild.

I think wilson is going to bust hard, think he undersized and overated as f**k just cause he throws gimmick throws
jets doing us a favor

Mac Jones is the right answer, but since most of you talent scouts in this forum think he is not worthy of pick #2 or #3 we will excuse him for this discussion. So the Jets could surprise everybody on draft day and leave the 49ers with a choice between Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones! You never know what's going to happen on draft day! 🙏

If we prefer Wilson over Fields why wouldn't the Jets?

But they don't leak. When have they leaked?

No one knew about the trade for 3 OA, Buckner, Jimmy, Aiyuk, 2nd to 3rd OA, Trent Williams trade. Heck they had half the media thinking they were going with Quinnen Williams even though we had Buckner. This FO doesn't leak, and I don't understand nor think they'd leak anything when it comes to their biggest decision as an organization in years. This is basically a ballsy move because they're hinging their careers here in SF. If this busts, you can almost bet that KS will have to work his reputation back up as an talent evaluator again before he will have control of the roster like he does now.

PS They've been pretty air tight since Baalke and Harbaugh.

It doesn't matter, if they view Wilson or Fields the same, they'll just take who ever drops to them.
Here are some videos from the past to put this draft in perspective.

Kyle's evaluation of rookie QBs in 2017:

Mike's analysis on where things went south for RG3:

Past experiences with Jay Cutler and RG3 should help groom whoever falls to #3. My sense is that if a QB has RG3's physical skills to go along with the ability to play as a drop back QB when forced to, then that's the "ideal" Shanahan QB.

Lastly, a blast from the past analysis of Jay Cutler from the 2006 draft, a QB with a "live" arm but not from a traditional powerhouse. Steve Young's analysis on what Mike wants in a QB is worth listening to. Jay was the #3 QB after Vince Young and Matt Leinart. For those of you who remember that Steve Sarkisian was Matt Leinart's OC in college at USC, that's the reason I am skeptical of Mac Jones being the choice for the 49ers; way too many similarities there.

Wilson is overrated.
Fields played against better Ds.

I prefer Fields.

not sure Lance will be ready after one season on the bench.

He certainly could be like RG3 in 2012 after a year on the bench. Question is can he be an effective drop-back passer when forced to in year 2 and beyond?

Mac Jones would've been there in the 20th round...

Everyone felt giving up anything to move up one spot for him was silly. The Niners weren't interested in Trubisky and they should have known that.

The media did pan the Bears for that trade...funny thing was both of the players at 2 and 3 busted but we did get Warner out of that deal, so win for us. It shouldn't be discounted that some other team may have been willing to trade up to 2 and take Tribusky, even if we weren't going to take him.

The silverish speculative lining of the Jets committing to taking a QB at 2 by trading Darnold is maybe the 49ers knew the Jets were going to take Wilson and the 49ers want Fields. Of course, could also be that the 49ers inquired about Darnold previously and were told the Jets weren't trading him at that point, so 49ers may have thought they would have the pick of the QB litter at 3 after Lawrence goes if Jets were keeping Darnold. Fun part is...nobody knows and probably never will know all the background things going on before the draft.

If they draft Mac Jones, They have 2 years to win the SB in order to say they win this trade or atleast didn't lose it. Because by year 3 Mac Jones will be nowhere near the QB's both Fields and Lance will be. This is why I hope to god Jones is not the pick because this is not just about the next couple of years, It's about the next decade. They traded up to get their QB of the future, Not the present. I am sick of hear the media talk about how Jones is a better fit because he is more pro-ready now. I didn't know the Niners traded two future 1st RD picks to draft a QB who will be better for 1 year.

"We" as in the fans/media or "we" as in the 49ers? We don't know how the Jets or 49ers feel about either Fields or Wilson. I still think Saleh told Shannahan and Lynch something that caused them to move up.

Why not? What are you basing this off of?
