He's owed a $10M option bonus on Friday, so if anything happens it should be before Friday at 4pm EST/1pm PST.

Sure he can do that. But they also don't have to pay him if he doesn't report. So it totally beats the purpose of trying to maximize comp. It will only prove this had nothing to do with money and everything to do with pride. That money has no chance of being earned back. It would be gone forever.
