I'm guessing the best tackles have been signed or traded for already. Are we going to rely on the draft?

Is Trent threatening to hold out and not play this year?

AI: If Trent Williams were to hold out for the entire 2026 season, he would lose $33 million in cash compensation, in addition to facing millions of dollars in mandatory, non-waivable fines under the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Seems like he is in a weak position, 49ers wont just release him for nothing

He is smarter than that, but he would not show up to camp which would complicate things.

Ultimately, he is to old to just not show up. But he could also just retire and then come out of retirement to dodge the fines. I'm thinking they will work something out with him since he holds all of the leverage (we have no other LT).
Is the drama done yet?
What would Bill Walsh do?

He's owed a $10M option bonus on Friday, so if anything happens it should be before Friday at 4pm EST/1pm PST.

Hey AB, for some reason I thought that was a $20M option bonus. If thats the case, whats the issue between Trent and the F/O?
If no trade develops they should pay that $10 million on Friday and tell him he's staying for that one final year whether he likes it or not. The ball is not in the 49ers court. He can hold out until the trading deadline in November and they won't have to pay him. In the meantime there's the draft and the new not-so-good guy. Getting tired of his antics.

Sure he can do that. But they also don't have to pay him if he doesn't report. So it totally beats the purpose of trying to maximize comp. It will only prove this had nothing to do with money and everything to do with pride. That money has no chance of being earned back. It would be gone forever.

I think it's because the 49ers want to lower his cap number while Trent wants as usual more GTD money, I still think it gets done, they NEED to lower that and still have him on the roster plus lower his 2027 hit of $28M dead money, better to have him signed for 2027 rather than not and have that $28M dead money hit.

True, they have to pay it, since it's the offseason there isn't a reporting thing, if he didn't report for the season they could probably end up get that back though.

Trent wouldn't be on the team by now

Bill Walsh would have already traded him
Walsh approved of releasing Ronnie Lott, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice
Walsh always liked to get rid of older players before their play declined

True but it didn't always work.
