Watching live I thought he stood out with how bad he was playing. He looked slow and not as powerful. I know he got dinged up early so maybe that had a factor?

I mean he started to look better as the game went on, especially in the run game

It's funny how 49ers fans responses are predictable. It's always the end of the world until it's not.

Trent IS going to fall off at some point. Hopefully it hasn't already happened. We'll know when we know.

The steep dropooff started last season.

I've just been annoyed (and still am) that we absolutely refuse to draft his future replacement.

We've had at least two solid offseasons now knowing that Trent is in his late 30's and the following season could have easily been his last but we refuse to even select a tackle to try to develop. It's really annoying. If Trent Williams falls off a cliff this season I better not see a shocked Pikachu face on Shanahan or Lynch's faces!

It's hilarious listening to these so-called football fans talk about Trent Williams decline. Maybe they're forgetting or not watching closely, Williams has never been great his first or second games back because he literally has no practice time. But then again that's common sense

How about you comment on the teams refusal to draft his replacement. They aren't even planning for his departure.

I still don't see them replacing him through the draft. I expect to see them target a veteran through FA or a trade. Similar to how they went out and got Trent rather than draft Staley's replacement.

Who is refusing? The players I wanted in the last 3 drafts to replace him were either reaches at one pick or gone at the next pick.

I don't know what it would have cost to move from 43 up to 31 in this past draft ... but it might have been worth it.

And if you spend a 1st on a tackle where do you play him until Trent retires?

Hopefully this coming draft they spend at least 1 pick in the first 3 round on the OL, but some of it is also down to luck.

I think the same. When the time comes they will replace him however they need to ... Free agency, trade, draft. All 3 require things to fall in place to some extent ... for them to be lucky.

How you percieve the draft value of players does not make the argument.

How you percieve the draft value of players does not make the argument.

How you dismiss the idea that you don't just "pick OL" and that if you take a player at a position well above their value and thus bypass a player at a different position of significantly higher value you are setting yourself up for failure.

Pretty much always the best plan is to take the best player available with high picks.

The 49ers have not been desperate at OT for years because they had players who could play those positions. There were players who would have been worth taking at OT, but when they got on the clock the OTs ranked at the top of their list were not close to the top of their list of players they valued.

When I ask you to name a player and a pick you dismiss it, but that is the point. If the specific player isn't there at that specific pick then it's not on the team, and if the player at the top of your list is still on the board 20 picks later then they would likely have been a bad pick.

I hoped the 49ers could have had a chance to draft Josh Simmons this past draft, but Mykel Williams is FAR more valuable than an OT coming off a severe knee injury. Had he been on the board at pick 43, or even made it to the 2nd round the 49ers might have taken him, but he didn't make it to the 2nd round. Are you suggesting the 49ers should have drafted Josh Simmons with the 11th pick in the draft? Do you think people here would not have lost their minds if they did take him there?

They can't win. If they reach they will get skewered, if they don't the get skewered.

He had a decent game last year, he was winded and needed to get oxygen, but he didnt look this bad in pass pro, ever. He wasnt tired or anything, he just straight up lost reps a lot. For a player of his caliber, that is extremely noticeable. He never looked like the third best tackle on the field before.

I hope you're right and it's nothing, but this was probably Trent's worst game of career in pass pro.

1st round is not the only round in the draft. You cant daw conclusions based on personal analysis, it's irrelevant, you don't possess everyone's big board. In a heavy OL draft and a definite need with an aging LT and a less than average RT, we should have emphasized the draft similarly to what we did for the DL in 2025. End of the day, it is clear management doesn't value the OL positional group, they said as much, with the hands on balls comment after the 2024 draft and they show it with their actions.
Year to year, it seems LT are more rare in the draft.

So maybe - the Niners wait for TW to retire, sign a premier FA LT, and draft a premier RT? It's a solid concept.

Then all they need is an OC upgrade
