Yep that was my thought also when I saw them requesting new contracts. They know whats coming and they want theirs.

What are we doing here? Its 2 freakin million dollars, and the cap goes up every year.

I'd imagine the devils in the details. Guarantees etc

Sure, we can convert a $26m offer into a $28m apy offer by lowering the guarantee and keeping the apparent risk to the team the same. Don't know what he has been led to expect on that front.

I think the biggest problem now might be that Kyle has had enough. We've built a team of team players. Does Aiyuk still fit into our culture?

I would definately like to keep him for at least 1 year to get Ricky up to speed if he does. In that case, maybe the 5th year option is the best for us. Then when we trade him, the draft pick will come the same year, and if he wants the ball on his contract year, he's got to stay out of the dog house.

I still think this whole problem is Aiuyk is not being man enough to understand that being in Kyle's dog house his first two years is on him and not Kyle. Don't think it's going to work long term.
lol

The niners have set the market with several of our players. We do, in fact, overpay for players. We just don't appear ready to overpay for BA. And, I'm good with that 🤷‍♂️

Not like this. Sure players have gotten a boat load or "set the market" but the timing was such that it wasn't top money for long. This is way different.

I like Cosell, but if he is implying that because he isnt a top 4-5 WR, he shouldnt be paid, then his logic is flawed. Look at the top 4-5 QBs in the league. Those are the top 4-5 QBs in terms of salary.

WR are much different than QB. Wr's are plentiful and you can win with very good WR making between $5-15 mil peer year. Don't need to pay a very good WR $28 mil

the problem is that when a very good WR makes 28m per, the good WR who makes 15 will want 22...the market isnt static

If those great WRs weren't deemed a need they wouldn't have received the contracts they did.

see: running backs

edit to clarify. When great RBs were seen as necessary they received great contracts. Once they were seen as outdated and easily replaceable their contracts stiffened up.

receiver stock is up

How are you questioning his man hood? Y'all go too far with stuff.

Didn't NE offer $32M . I read that somewhere. I bet the 9ers are in the $27m ballpark and that should be plenty for a second contract.
Tbf if aiyuk turned down 30+ from NE and is willing to take 28 from us… I would feel obligated to apologize for every disparaging remark I've made about him over the last few days.

i know, obviously, that I don't know enough about this situation to form a coherent opinion… doesn't stop me from running my yap 🤣

(slowly turns attention to the lynch thread to continue uninformed yapping)

If some of these rumors are true and that's the case, completely agree. 26 mil a yr to 28 mil isn't much at all. 2mil a yr is scrub level players you just pick up.

perfect situation we sign Aiyuk for 28mil a yr. and then trade Deebo next year.

2nd best situation is trading Aiyuk for Devante Adams.

3rd best, trade to Steelers for 1st rounder and Pat Friemuth.
