If Aiyuk is on track to become a top 5 WR's in the whole league, why would you let him go? We got people who get paid a lot of money to take care of business anything related to the salary cap, new contracts/extension, restructure, etc., etc.

I've thought Brandon Aiyuk was one of the more underrated WRs in the league the last two seasons or so - specifically all around. He's an excellent run blocker. I hope he gets his numbers this year. You can tell he is motivated going into his contract year too get mega paid. He may price himself out from us, but hopefully we win a super bowl this year. We have him for at least two more years.
I'm glad he's looking good. The smart thing to do may be sign him now before he gets too expensive. Give him a 3-4 year extension with a really nice signing bonus to keep him happy.

Do you agree,Tank, that if Aiyuk played like an elite WR, he is a keeper? When was the last time we had a Jerry Rice, a TO? Decade ago, right. Those two are locally grown because we drafted them. If Aiyuk, also a locally grown, comes out at least close to what Rice and Owen had become, I think it's only appropriate to make him a niner lifer.

You have to remember that it's not as easy as it sounds. How many teams do you see that have two of the top 5-10 receivers in terms of pay? BA wants a big payday and he's not going to settle for anything outside of the top 5-10 receivers in the league. Christian Kirk got paid and that means BA is definitely going to get his bag. Also, TO was in his rookie contract when Rice was here. When it was time to pay TO what happened? Rice had to go…

Different times, we're talking mid 2000s to 2023, the cap is exploding each year, BA will get paid similar to Deebo IMO.

I'd love to keep him. I believe he grew up a niner fan too. Initially, I thought we wouldn't be able to afford extending him, because so many of our contracts ballon the next two years, but AB explained in here how we can. So I hope we do. Like I said, I feel like he's been super under appreciated cause his numbers aren't eye popping.
honestly, stuff like Aiyuk is a big reason why I think Brock is the best option moving forward (outside of qb play). His contract gives us a huge advantage. Treys doesn't cripple us or anything but Brock's is so damn cheap that it just opens more room to extend guys like Aiyuk easier.

The cap is going up but we can only afford this stuff cause we aren't paying much for a QB. The qb market has gone up exponentially in a short amount of time. When jimmy signed his deal, he had the biggest contract. What, 4-5 years alter people are making double ($50M)?
we are just fortunate to have our QBs on the cheap. Once we have to pay one, it'll suck. I think that's why it's so important to get an elite/HOF guy and not just "really good". So he can carry us when can't pay all the positions like we are now.

What I don't want to happen is us be cheap and trade Aiyuk for a first rounder and try to replace him that way, and eat it like we did with buck/Kinlaw.

I don't see that happening, BA isn't getting traded IMO.

I hope not. I don't think the team is interested in that right now either. Apparently we were getting some pretty good attention in regard to teams interested in trading for him but we turned it down pretty aggressively.
I think, it we are going to lose him, I'd rather ride out his last two years and let him walk. Get his quality play and a 3rd round comp.

Wasn't done because they were cheap. It was done because they thought they could keep two starters for one and were paying the starting QB his big money.
With the cap increasing so much over the next few years that reality isn't going to be as constricting even with the possibility of an expensive QB.

Meh the 49ers simply made the wrong choice in that equation. While we wouldn't have gotten the 1st for Armstead, in hindsight im sure the team wishes they'd have kept Buck and let Armstead walk. He's not earned what he makes imo and his contract isn't THAT much different than what Buck got paid.
IF they were to trade a WR, for me I'd prefer it to be Deebo if I had to choose between the two. Deebo's got that diva in him, Aiyuk seems like he's a team guy.

It seems like many players we sign to mega deals, the next year is a big drop off...Warner, Deebo, Kittle, Jimmy, etc.
Bosa and Aiyuk though, I don't expect that. Same for Trent Williams.

Well Jimmy droppped off cause he tore his ACL, Al though he didn't look very good preceding the injury in those few games. We know why deebo wasn't great, he wasn't focused in the off season. Warner did struggle initially but I think he's regained form (possibly better). I think kittle has had a lot of nagging injuries. Either way, contracts are a real distraction - that's been proven time and time again. I think this year will be a much better showing from everyone combined.
having the qb position be so uncertain for many years, or at least not great play, I think has a wear and tear on the team mentally. It's a lot of mental stress to know that week in and week out you have time be great or your team will struggle to win. If Purdy can come back and maintain/improve his level of play - i think that'll take a mental burden off of a lot of positions so they can play lighter and more free.

Where has anyone seen diva in deebo? In contract talks trying to get his paycheck? Well it isn't as big of an issue with BA because he already got a bag, and has a 5th year that will double his career earnings.
He came in camp not in peak conditioning? after an injury that effected his ability to work out. Or is it his body has changed so much because his roles have shifted and calls for adjustments?
