I hope he comes out and balls! But if you're implying that we shouldn't be nervous about the recent developments, seems like you're off the mark here. It's sounding exactly like the Pettis situation.

I think most people are hoping that he does just that.
He hasn't been able to do much in the past few weeks because of the Hammy., So I am hoping it's just rust when it comes to the route running not being crisp right now. I would like to hear from Aiyuk himself. That might tell us more.

He's tied into the team. If he's saying it, it's because the team is communicating it to him. He's not in the "hot take" business.

That's what got me worried originally. Maiocco constantly puts everything in a positive light to the point that I stopped caring for his opinion as he was basically the positive version of Cohn. So when he said something that may be negative it got me wondering.
Im wondering if I should keep him in my starting fantasy lineup this week.

Sorry but I don't see it, any comparison to the Pettis situation is off base. BA came into camp looking like he's going to be at another level. He even went out of his way to do some offseason training with Trey shortly after the draft.

Usually the most obvious answer is the most correct. He injured his hammy in the latter part of preseason and it's been a gradual process to get him back to 100%. Not sure why you all think we need to read between the lines on everything Kyle says/does. Have we learned nothing from the Mac Jones to 49ers speculation? Kyle has shown to be straight up with people/the media. Even in the Pettis situation he clearly called him out during his pressers. That's not the case here.

Maiocco was also so sure that we were drafting Mac Jones. He's not as tuned in as people think.

I took him out. Even if he balls, I won't be mad at removing him. He needs to show me at least one good game before I consider putting him back in.

The thing is, even when Julio Jones was prime Julio, he had the occasional let down game. He had the occasional 3 catch for 20 yards game. It would infuriate fantasy owners. The falcons never came out and questioned his heart or anything like that. It was just a bad game. This thing with Aiyuk is different. It's dangerous...especially for fantasy owners. If it's a mental or not working hard or passion problem, then bench that player. Treat it almost like Shanny is. Look who is on your bench and start that player this weekend.

Eat crow for what? For saying he clearly wasn't hurt week 1 and there was something else going on?

Him having a great week 2 doesn't prove anything about week 1 to be incorrect.
Sherfield said Aiyuk is responding well to the WR competition.

So there is a WR competition?
Maybe Sherfield is just Antonio Brown 2.0

… maybe he's just that good.

The difference between that and most situations is that Shanahan didn't even tell the assistant coaches or anyone else in the organization who we were drafting. He didn't even tell Lynch (though Lynch probably had a good idea) or York until earlier that week.

Maiocco is pretty tuned in, but he relies on sources in the building like anyone else and if Shanahan is icing out his own staff, then there isn't going to be a lot of reliable information.

There isn't that level of secrecy for the Aiyuk thing. Maiocco also brought it up unprompted over a week before the start of the season and before it was even mentioned that Aiyuk had a hamstring injury.
