I think a lot of people are going to underestimate how serious the league and owners will come down on him and make an example because of what he's done.
1. I'll be surprised if the commissioner reinstates him
2. I don't think any owner is going to give him what he wants acting like this.
this isn't just a 49ers problem. Owners and executives are going to make sure no other player wants to do this again.
I believe Aiyuks last play in the NFL will be the one that he destroyed his knee on. No way owners and executives will reward him in any way. I doubt the commanders owner will want to bring this to his team and the media circus it'll be
yup.
AND once he's off the 49ers, I think the teams going to file a grievance to claw back more than half of his guaranteed money. I'll be shocked if they don't.
over a 4 year contract, which his signing bonus is for. You can possibly argue 5 years cause it was an extension. He fulfilled 1.5 years - which at best is 37.5%. So I think the team will file a grievance clawing it back. They have a great case too.
if it's technically spread over 5 years, because it was an extension, then it's 30%.
long story short, I don't think he plays again and I think a huge chunk of his money will come back. If I'm right he'll get to keep $8.625M of his signing bonus (total $23M).
and only god knows how much he's had to pay in fines. With possibly a lot more coming
I hope all that happens but we've also seen a lot get swept under the rug for talented players.
I do think the Washington owner is fine with Aiyuk not being released by us but I'd be shocked if he's not signed by them once we do let him go.
End of the day if Aiyuk is healthy(which after 2 years I'd be surprised if he's not physically there) he's a very talented player. The question I have is about his mind.
Kudos to hero and other people who saw the cracks, I certainly didn't. But this whole situation has revealed the guy is simply mentally fragile.
I don't care how pissed you are about the SB targets or the front office with whatever leaks they put out or contract talk negativity...when you're handed 100+ million by that team most adults would brush that off and keep moving forward.
This dude basically stole from the team based on the production he put on the field while pocketing $50 million in the process and then killed any trade value for the team in the process with his antics.
I am VERY curious how things go with him in Washington. Can this guy keep it together unless things are going perfectly for him? And this is the NFL. When have things ever gone perfectly for a team?
I highly doubt he goes to any team. lol especially Washington. Owners don't play this s**t and never want to see a player do this to them, especially a good player.
time will tell but his career is over, IMO, and he's going to get raked through the coals by the niners for a lot of money.
i think he's on a PS making Jack, at best. and can't mentally have and quits… assuming I'm wrong and he gets signed.
too many people are viewing this situation from the wrong perspective, IMO. This is an owners problem and NFL problem that they never want and will make an exple
Out of him. It's going to be ugly.
