There is no value in trading BA unless you can get a 3rd RD pick minimum. They would have to eat a ton of dead money this year. Yes they would save money later on but they have outs with BA in 2 years anyways if they choose. If you are only getting offered like a 6th RD pick, then just keep him and see if he can get healthy. You can always trade or release him later on. I never seen a player's importance drop so fast. At 25 he was considered a top 10 WR and a main part of this team's future. a year later at 26 he is considered damaged goods who you just want to get rid of for anything. I mean we ae talking about a player's early prime years.

Plus we just traded Deebo… wtf we doing here? We really want to go from loaded at WR to Pearsall, Jennings and scraps?

Anything less than a 2nd + 4th I wouldn't take. Maybe two 3rds

Jed wants his $100M back. If Aiyuk is traded before April 1 the dead $ isn't that much. The 49ers constructed the contract to have an out after year 1 and before April 1 of 2025.

Problem is he got hurt so he literally has negative value. Nobody wants him. Even if we are giving him away nobody would take him because of the injury + contract. They would need to wait for an update on his knee and that isn't happening til late April/May from what I read.

This whole thing was just a complete disaster from the start. There's definitely bad blood and buyer's remorse.

Aiyuk handled the contract negotiations horribly (he admitted as much during the season).

The 49ers waited to extend and caved to his demands; that's their fault in this thing--which mainly is on Shanahan because he apparently raced up to call off the trade.

Then pure misfortune of it all strikes when Aiyuk blows up his knee. I think a lot of people are largely overlooking the significance of the injury and just chalking it up to a garden variety ACL and considering the length of time he's out, not the type of player he'll be once he returns.

Aiyuk tore his ACL, AND his MCL, AND he damaged his meniscus; believe there was talk about some other damage as well.

Call me pessimistic but I think this guy's career is over. At least the guy we knew. WR--more than any other position--requires you to make stops and cuts on a dime, and accelerate out of them. I can't think of a worse injury for a receiver to have; especially a guy whose whole skillset is predicated on that.

Once I knew the extent of the injury, I kinda accepted it as the coffin for Aiyuk's career.

Hindsight is 20/20. Niners made a poor investment to a player who has a pretty s**tty attitude and suffered a career-altering (possibly career-ending for all intents and purposes) injury.

No use in applying sunken cost fallacy. The team needs guys who can contribute to that WR room and he cannot do that--not next year, and probabaly not ever again.

Time to cut bait

And yet, we have the Patriots, who have actual doctors on the team, willing to trade for him. Do you think they would trade for a player when his career is over ?
I don't see anyone trading for him until his progress report is shown.

He's the definition of buyer's market now that his stock has plummeted.

Plus, the Patriots haven't exactly been a model of front office excellence of late—and a doctor can't tell how Aiyuk is going to perform 8 or 9 months from now, nor beyond that. They can only glean so much in terms of how his recovery is progressing structurally.

New England is just exploring and considering taking a flier on him knowing there's never been a lower time to buy for a pro bowl talent, knowing full well he may not be that guy ever again.
Was still an elite level separator last yr before the injury.

outside of a couple games he's been a super reliable pass catcher as well.

folks got all up in their feelings over the contract stuff. Also long as the injury stuff heals properly, we got a young good WR signed for a while. Build around him instead of trading him for nothing.

They would be idiots to trade him unless they are getting a 1 to replace him

In two years you've have taken another 26 million in cap hit to just have him recover and maybe never show up. If we're cutting the fat he needs to go. He wasn't that great last year after getting paid and healthy either...what's to say he even commits to this team and his recovery?

You think he doesn't want to make more money down the road or show what he's capable of doing? This is a professional athlete. Why are we acting like the guy got paid and now just wants to sit on his ass all day?

He was just starting to get into game shape last year then he got hurt. I swear people just forget how f**king good this guy was 2 years ago. The efficiency was insane. I don't understand why people want to get rid of great talented players who are in their prime

I'm sure it's mostly about the way he handled last season. Holding out then not being ready to comete when the season started. Now he's coming off a serious knee injury and he might not be ready to play when the season starts. Who knows how good he'llbe coming back. If he played last year and had even an average year they wouldn't be talking about trading him.

Not only that you can see a clear decline in our overall passing game when he got hurt. JJ as the #3 WR is great, JJ as the #1 WR isn't the same.

THIS

We also have to remember, he earned that $ by showing up and working hard.
The concern is will he be able to get separation when he comes back. He's not a speed guy so he relies on tight precise patterns to get one. Will he be able to make those cuts after that injury? The fact that the Niners made it known that they're open to trading him makes me think there's more to this than just wanting to shed salary. The prognosis for his full recovery may not be good. If that's the case other teams will need to be aware of that before any trade can happen. Thatmakes it harder to get much in return.

But they say this any time anyone calls about a player. "They will listen to any offer" so are they trying to trade him or are teams calling on him wanting to get him cheap?
