He didn't exactly handle himself well with his contract negotiations.

Last year I was all in for getting the Aiyuk deal made,… he was one of the best route running WRs in the league and one of the most efficients. He was one of the most importants supports for Purdy thanks to constantly creating separation.

When he was signed the niners were trying to form a team able to again reach the SB and for that purpose it was necessary to have him in,…. but sh*t happens,…. specially injuries in the NFL,… and that of Aiyuk was a very serious one,… I read he torn both ACL and MCL plus he damaged the meniscus,… so it's not a simple torn ligament,… it's something more and affects the whole knee

still, he can regain his past form,… but he could also stay far from it making his current contract a burden for the 49ers
taking into account that last year he wasn't able to regain his form in 7 games after just holding out TC, this season is already lost for him. He's not going to regain his 2023 form this season after the very serious injury, after missing TC, after missing some games to begin the season, etc.
This means that the cheap years of his contract are gone,… niners will only get the expensive years and they don't even know if he's gonna be the same,... after this season (from 2026 on) he will still have a cap hit of around $116M,… considering that there will stiil be 3 years of contract, it will be as he's contracted for $39M/year from 2026 on,…

would anyone sign Aiyuk for 39M/year? don't think so,... he wasn't worth it before the injury,… let alone now that nobody knows even if he will be able to regain his form

he's a burden now for the niners,…. but they created a "escape hatch" in his first year of contract,…. they can trade him and get rid of almost 110M of cap hit,…. they just have to absorb another $8M cap hit this year (added to the $10M that already are in the books this year and are impossible to avoid),... something quite unusual and something they should IMO take advantage of,… trade him, even for a 4th and get rid of the huge cap hit coming from next season on,… $42M in 2027 and $44M 2028

what I doubt very much is that there will be any team out there willing to take this huge contract for a player that nobody knows in what form he's gonna be back,… and on top of that has to give draft capital for it,…. it's nuts IMO,…
but if any team appears willing to make the deal,…. do it,… without hesitation and as quickly as you can

Don't forget for consecutive years of improving upon the previous seasons. Unless people think he is a completely different person now. No contract negotiations now and some very humbling circumstances. Trading now would not only be bad because we are selling too low, but his career also suggests we won't get a repeat performance.

I agree. I think Aiyuks deal was overblown, but it made some kind of sense based on his established role in a championship-seeking team, especially his chemistry with Brock.
But now two things have changed - Aiyuk's devastating injury, and the team having to go through a re-adjustment, which will likely alter the timing of any championship run.

He may return to top form, and I hope for both his sake and ours that he does, but his contract now carries way, way too much risk. Like I said, it was a little overblown in the first place, as I think everybody would agree, but now it is potentially burdensome. Offload if possible.

You guys need to move on from the contract stuff honestly.

The guy never gave us ANY problems on the field or the locker room. Even when he was off his game after missing camp cuz of the contract stuff he was still making a big impact in the passing game even if the ball wasn't going to him.

Are we fans or scorned ex lovers? He did everything we wanted from a WR1 when on the field. If he's trending to come back healthy that's what you want on the field. Discarding him simply because of a tough contract situation that's in the past seems very short sighted to me.

You skipped over the out of shape and being a zero on field. Remember the video of him running around in his backyard catching balls vs. a tree. Saw this story before.

He wasn't out of shape, he was out of practice, there's a difference. And he wasn't a zero on the field either. You must've skipped over the part where our passing offense took a major dip as soon as he got injured.

Out shape and out of practice. If you you going hold out and be an ass about it, you better show up ready to go and he didnt. He played a hand full of games and did nothing. Paid like the best in the league and played like a zero and then blows his knee out. Thanks for nothing. He didnt act like commited profesional in the best of times, now he is hurt. Alot to overcome. Is he entitled or commited? So far he has shown to be entitled.

And to add to this, we had offers on the table from other clubs that he denied further handcuffing this team.

You're entitled to your opinion but it's coming off as highly emotional.

He's been on this team for 5 seasons so far and his "entitlement" was on display during one OFFseason.

The ESPN, the NFL Network, half of the Webzone and the 49ers subreddit said so!

The 49ers could have signed Aiyuk earlier in the offseason at 26M AAV. Paraag Marathe told John Lynch to trade him before the draft as Paraag didn't want to pay more than 20M AAV. Lynch set an unrealistic asking price of a first-round pick and quality player in return and couldn't get any team to bite on both. Right before the draft, ARSB and AJB reset the WR market. Aiyuk and his agent adjusted their asking price to what the market was reflecting. In mid-May, Paraag finally offered Aiyuk what he wanted at the start of the negotiation but it was too late. After Aiyuk and his agent notified the team that they were seeking more, Paraag shutdown the negotiation. Lynch was still encouraged to trade Aiyuk, which included checking the availability of Justin Jefferson (Vikings laughed and didn't even entertain the 49ers). It took Aiyuk embarrassing the 49ers in July publicly just to get Paraag back to the negotiating table. In the end, Aiyuk got everything he wanted. Given he suffered a major injury last season, Aiyuk and his agent made the right call to get every dollar they could while their window was open. They knew the team wanted to get a deal done last offseason. They knew the team didn't want to go through the franchise tag process and that the team didn't want to lose Aiyuk for nothing.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Paraag Marathe.
