Tim Kawakami first reported the team regretted extending BA, and now, we've got Mike Silver--a guy who is clearly connected to the org--confirming that. There's too much smoke now to pretend that it's just about teams inquiring.

Aiyuk was just prepping his ACL there.

You have to wonder how the news that the 49ers are open to trading him will sit with Aiyuk and his agent. These guys have such fragile egos that he may decide he wants to be traded.

I'm sure they regret the Deebo restructure about now as well.

Doesn't change the fact his contract is good value IF he comes back healthy and it makes zero sense to take the cap hit on Aiyuk on top of Deebo and Hargraeves when there's a clear out in his contract.

Ain't nobody saying s**t about CMC tho...

Exactly. Kawakami was specific in his report that the regret stems from Aiyuk's behavior during contract negotiations, not his injury or play during the season. Those things just exacerbated the regret.

I think the 49ers are trying to undo a financial AND behavioral precedent.

Probably. But they are also enjoying f**king with Aiyuk now that they can. Long term contract gives Niners the control and I think they want his agent to know they may have got the deal he wants - but there's no guarantee he gets the team.

Agreed. Let's move this guy. It was a bad signing anyways. Let's get some OL!
I don't think it was necessarily a bad decision to extend Brandon. I think the front office was gearing up to go all in last year to try to win the Super Bowl. However, injuries played a huge part in that not happening last year. Otherwise, we were set to be one of the better teams in the NFL with a shot to win at all. I think they realize after not having Aiyuk since he got hurt, Ricky and Jennings were good enough to play significant roles in this offense. I think they're going to start to try to upgrade the trenches on both sides of the ball. Moving on from Deebo and Aiyuk will give some cap savings a few years from now. I think it is a smart idea to acquire whatever draft picks you can get for them now and using them towards building a younger and deeper roster.

More confirmation that SF regrets extending BA. What a disaster. Honestly, these are the decisions that I've always said will get Shanahan fired. He should've never tried to save BA when BA wanted out--instead, he should've Spartan kicked his ass out the door to Pittsburg.

I agree. Hindsight is always 20/20 but the way he behaved was kinda nuts.

not sure what they'd get for him? I'm telling you we are better off drafting a wr or two every year and just keep riding that until we find a real gem on and off the field that deserves that payday.
At this point Aiyuks trade value is by far the lowest of his entire career.

Why in the world would you trade him now? Makes no sense at all. You're supposed to sell high and buy low... not the other way around.
I hope they learned valuable lessons from the two diva WR's.

Honestly, if we drafted better from 2021 - 2023, it would've been a lot easier to say deuces to either. I dont think they should trade him unless they get a great offer (1st or a couple of day 2 and 3 picks), but yeah, I can't see this team going through anything like what they went through with the Deebo and Aiyuk extensions.
