The Niners WR position and why I think trading for another WR is a mistake

This dude cannot catch to save his life... he is a super fast, but he cannot catch the football. You get very limited opportunities in a game and when they come, he drops it. Not a #1, not even close.

Cant cut anyone until we have healthy replacements. I would agree we need to find an upgrade after the season is over though. He just never had the hands to go with his feet.

Green) I just don't wanna mortgage our future before we've given these draftees a decent chance to show why they were drafted first.

Now, I will say that we may need to draft a WR in the 1st in the 2020 draft, and he should not be a slot-style WR either.

Trade deadline will be over before Hurd can make an impact and to expect a 3rd round Rookie who is playing s new position to step in and make a big impact is just wishful thinking.

Hurd had a hairline fracture in his back. Shut him down for the season. Can't risk the kids career. Make a trade, but be reasonable.

I would be in at a 4th and a future pick up to a 4th depending on restructure/ resign/ playing time for A.J. Green or Emmanuel Sanders. A 5th for Sanu. Any higher and I am out. I think we would have to send a player of equal value and cap hit to do a deal for Parker and I am out on that as well.

If a 4th and a future 4th is what they'd take a long look at. But They are URFA in 2020, so I'd look harder at picking them up for free in 2020. For this season I'd push for a 4th or 5th for Sanu. I think he's still under contract so 2020 won't be much of an option. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that though.

I look at it like this, we go from a playoff team that could make a push, to a serious contender with Sanders or a (presumably healthy) AJ. this year. A 4th next year is worth that, we will probably get a compensatory to cover it for losing someone in free agency anyway. If they then resign, a 4th to get them for another 2-3 years at a reasonable deal is ok with me. We are only giving up the next pick on the resign. I can handle that.

To be clear I think Sanu is probably the most likely...and I think one 4 or 5 should be enough to lock that up.

I love how people on here think that a fourth round pick is going to net AJ Green. It doesn't matter that he's only going to play 10 games for you. The Pats, Niners, GB, Cowboys, Colts, etc all think they can compete THIS YEAR and this guy can help them. I can easily see a team giving up a 3rd or even a 2nd to get Green.

You are 100% correct, I listen to NFL network and they said no WR earns the number 1 spot by injury or just by being a starter. A true #1 AKA Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones is earned and offesnive coordinators have to game plan for them and fear them. A true number 1 needs to step up and earn it. We as Niner fans had it so good with Rice as the number one and JT John Taylor a solid number 2 that all he did was produce. I would argue that Taylor could have been a legit number 1 on other teams.

Nobody is trading us a #1 WR.

AJ Green could be damaged goods at this point.

Sanders isn't a #1 WR or at least he shouldn't be. He sure as hell wasn't a #1 WR until year 4/5...if ever.

Develop our own guys or invest an early pick one another one in an impressive class coming up.

Personally I think developing our guys is a must.

If there was a WR that was actually available and worth trading for then NE already would have traded for them, therefore it is safe to say that there are no decent WRs currently on the trade block.

If we can get AJ for a couple 3rds and Goodwin or Pettis, thats fine, otherwise we give up too much.

Already been reported he's not available. Plus he's injured.

Our lack of WRs will be downfall if we do make the playoffs. You gotta have people who go up and fight for the ball.
