Shout out to Kocurek. Two things I've noticed:
1-Especially in the last month, all the underachieving and project player acquisitions we've made have really come on. He's really coached and developed them well.
2-The line stunts are really helping Bosa. The sack today against the Cowboys was off a line stunt. They tried to chip Bosa, and completely missed him as he stunted inside, effectively wasting a tight end's route on a useless chip. That's a great adjustment we've made to help out a guy that offenses are trying to scheme out.
Brilliant coaching adjustment, for sure!

Or quite possibly, he's an avg player that happened to have a career year. And what you are seeing is who he's mostly been during his career. A solid rotational player, but avg starter.
Maybe but I just go by what I see with my eyes, and I saw an edge player that was very crafty with his pass-rush plan and technical with his hands. Dude won with so many different moves. I was pretty damn impressed with each game.

DL was fantastic on Sunday. DJ, AA and Bosa were dominant.
They seem to be settling in and Ebukam is very solid in setting the edge and good at reading screens from what I sporadically pay attention too. Not so hot in the rush department. Arden on the inside more too please.
I thought I just read you somewhere saying Key was a JAG..
As for the Dline, we are one high level interior guy (we hope its Kinlaw) and one more high level edge rusher to really wreaking havoc. Hope they are prudent with the first two picks. No getting cute, overdrafts, hoping someone develops, etc. Get a corner and an edge rusher that can contribute immediately.
He is...as an ER. Like AA.
But inside, both are way more comfortable and producing.
Resign Jones and Key and with AA and maybe Kinlaw someday, and that's solid. Then Bosa and buy or draft a real ER and they may finally have their payoff here.
CB or two...no doubt.

*1 extra game. The final regular season tally...

2019 49ers sacks: 48
2021 49ers sacks: 48
I remember the depth of the d-line being hyped in training camp and then it fell flat when guys like Kerr, Hurst, and Kinlaw never really contributed, but overall the unit came through for us. It's unlikely we'll have a d-line as good as the 2019 version for a long time, but the front 7 is still top tier.

Pick one (both will be UFA): DJ Jones or Arden Key
Both. 1T's are cheap and D.J. Jones is constantly dinged up. Constantly. Arden only has one solid year and that's as a 375 snap player with us. Paraag will be all over both these contracts easily with full leverage.
But Jones slightly > Arden. Hone grown wins.
I'm the opposite, if you buy your stuff on 1T's being a dime a dozen.![]()
Arden > DJ Jones. But yeah, tough to decide. So, I'd offer them the best under our current cap structure and let *them* decide what to do. I think ShanaLynch values edge rusher over interior rushers - considering what they gave to Dee Ford, and I think they will offer Arden more money than DJ Jones. Also considering that Kinlaw will be back (hopefully) in 2022 to offer the same kind of production that DJ Jones has had.
Hate to lose either of them though.![]()

I'd have no arguments using my own take against me here either. That said, Arden is still a 3T inside with AA on passing downs. So technically, they are both inside
But pass rush is the premium so who's a better disruptor? Jones at 1T on base downs or Arden at 3T on passing downs? TFL? Run or pass disruptions? Tough call.
And that's a good thing!
Between DJ Jones and Kinlaw, with Kinlaw hopeuflly coming back in 2022. That might be the difference for me. Do you gamble that Kinlaw can replace DJ Jones? I don't know. I know that we didn't re-sign Hyder, and maybe age as well as more money from Seadderal as the reason. But I also think you can get DT's that can absorb double teams - easily in the day three picks or undrafted. It's the gap penetrators that are hard to find. If I had a choice between Kinlaw and DJ Jones, I'd pick DJ because he's available. Between Arden and DJ Jones, I'd really be stressed out and probably vomit under the stress load before I would also pick DJ Jones, because I think he's explosive and can do a lot of stunts and dogs with Bosa. I just don't know about Kinlaw yet to really gamble on him. I need to know how he's rehabbing and how he's recovering. Otherwise, I'll go with availability vs ability. DJ's also been hurt in the past, but hopefully he's more conditioned now such that he's lasted pretty much the whole 18 weeks. Arrow up for DJ for me.

Ebukam is not it for me, and at 8mil next season I think his $$$ would be better spent keeping others and then drafting a guy who (initially at least) can come in on passing downs and go after the QB.

Should be some guys available in the 2nd. Bring back Hyder. Ebukam came on a lot stronger, but is a rotational player. They can reduce his cap number, cut him, or if some team is willing (I doubt it), trade him.

Those guys stepped up without Bosa. We needed it.
