Sign him to a small contract but don't rely on him staying healthy. Have an alternative. If he ends up healthy for the year that would be a huge boost.

At this point he's a mid linebacker so a mid contract with a team friendly injury clause would be a win.
Hope Saleh doesn't grab him.

Mid LB? He was a hot commodity just a season ago coming off a torn achillies. He's still 28 and will be 2 years removed from the injury this season.
Lots of red flags from denver. -- they signed two other lbs and cut dre. Take him out to dinner sign a light deal with incentives see if there's any magic left.

He would be an upgrade over anyone not named Fred Warner on this roster. Sign him on a 2 year prove it again deal.
He doesn't want to be Scottie Pippen.
Was he bad in Denver? This feels very sudden and unexpected.

Not really, but they did it without him (injured) most of the time so...

Sometimes it's just the fit. Plus he may still have been recovering full motion after his injury. Sometimes it takes a little longer for some players. Denver probably felt they could do without him and save some money. Even with the cap hit they saved a net $6 million.

I'd totally sign him for an incentive laden deal, and rotate him with Winters and Martin.

Seems like Denver made him out to be Luc Longley. He has a bigger role here in SF.

No doubt he has missed having Fred by his side.
