Assuming he's missing any time at all then there's no reason to play him the first 3 weeks if there are any concerns. May as well wait til week 5 since we have the early bye week.

Right. Also, week 1 & 2 are winnable with or without him...and we have a week 4 bye. Bosa not playing week 1 is a bad PR look, but probably best for his ability to get back to 100%.

Shanny said that Nick wanted to play, so I'm thinking its not that bad.

So is Bosa out longer than 4 weeks? Per SoCold, high ankles sprains are no joke. They need to stop calling these high ankle sprains and call them ligament injury.
High ankle sprain: torn or partially torn ligament.
Ankle sprain: torn or partially torn muscle.
Ligaments: connect bone to bone.
Tendon: connects bone to muscle.
Muscles: Softest tissue: heals much quicker.

We don't really know what the injury is outside of an ankle injury.
It's a very weird situation. No question he got hurt and we know why.
What we don't know is the severity of the injury.
Original reports and comments from Saleh indicated the injury was minor. MRI results were apparently a minor ankle issue.
Then Lynch and Shanahan gave us the "significant ankle injury" and Lynch threw our "some high ankle sprain components"
It's possible this actually is a serious ankle injury and he'll miss regular season games and if that happens it makes sense to sit him until week 5 as we have our week 4 bye week. Hope that we can sneak by in that 3 game stretch at 2-1 at worst and have Nick back 100% for the rest of the run.
It's also possible that Lynch and Shanahan realized the injury wasn't that bad but they've seen enough from Nick where they don't need him going back out there in preseason or training camp and want to get him fully ready for week 1.
We'll find out in a few weeks where the truth lies. I think us guessing at the recovery time when we have a very murky picture of what the injury actually is, is somewhat pointless.
But cool info regardless.
great info ... the fact that the injury was reported as minor by Ian Rappaport and Saleh originally said minor causes me to think that shanalynch may be being overly cautious with Bosa. At any rate , if we can get him back healthy early in the season, I 'll be fine with that as long as he's completely healthy.
Saleh jumped the gun. He shouldn't have said anything until after the MRI results.

That's why I need some goddamn Bosa ankle news.
You're not getting any for a while my man lol.
He's been put on deep freeze until the start of the regular season. No news is *good* news. Unlike Reuben's case.
I agree. I still think he plays week 1 and I think GM/HC decided to play up the injury to stop media questions and speculation on a big name rookie to let him concentrate on rehab and let him do his thing...also gives us a slight competitive advantage since Tampa Bay can't really see what makes him tick in preseason to try to game plan for him.
At least that's my hope.

How can we fairly call Ward injury prone?
It comes down to how much we like the player. We don't like Ward so he is injury prone, we like and need Bosa so he is not
It's science

If Ward was a consistent Pro Bowl player he'd just have bad luck. People see what they want to see. It's not like Ward has a degenerative bone issue. Whatever logic people use on classifying Ward is what should be used on Bosa. But I suspect there will be a lot of "yeah, but..."

There's injury prone, and then there's Jimmie Ward.
Bosa is the #2 talent of the draft. People have seen what that talent is worth, so some are frustrated that his talent isn't on display due to minor injuries currently. Thus labeling him injury prone more in frustration than anything else.
Do I even need to go there with Ward at this point in the Zone... Dude has hollow bones like a bird. His talent is as elusive as his presence on the field. Is there even a single, somewhat decent memorable highlight of Ward making a play the last 3 years...?
