DE Nick Bosa "Smaller Bear" NO POLITICS

The nebulous nature of the "tightness" could indicate that maybe he does want a new deal. Unfortunately for the Niners, Nick has the leverage right now. They've never drafted a pass rusher outside of Bosa--not at edge, not inside. Maybe that changes soon with some of the younger guys, but right now, they haven't shown they can develop a single pass rusher not named Bosa.

Bosa knows how valuable he is to this defense, and the 49ers don't really have an obvious replacement waiting in the wings. They better hope some of these young guys are big hits...

Another thing to consider is how committed are the 49ers to this new scheme, and Bosa's fit in it moving forward. Bosa may think his production could drop under Morris, so he may be looking to secure that new money asap before the new scheme affects his production numbers.

His current deal is outrageous. Maybe he is upset because the 49ers are trying to make that deal a little more manageable. The meeting they had with him maybe didn't go over too well....

We were 12-5 without him last year. He's been more unavailable than he's been available. Sure he's elite when healthy but Fred Warner is arguably equally important to this defense than Bosa and he's not making QB money as Bosa is.

Bosa held out all camp prior to his deal and he signed it so what's the problem now?
So tired of players holding out, being held out of practice or constantly trying to renegotiate. It seems like too mnay are more concerned about how much they earn compared to another player than they are about winning games. Just play football. You're getting paid plenty. I don't know what's going on with Bosa but I'm talking about players in general.

We also went 12-5 without Warner being available through a large chunk. As great of a player Warner is and elite EDGE rusher will always be more important. If you dont believe me then compare the salaries.

It really depends on how the D is structured. You could argue that several LBs were the most important players on the defense over the years. LBs have an advantage in that they can be moved around more. They can rush from either edge, plug the middle, or drop back and defend the pass. They're often the captain and responsible for calling out the signals. As far as edge guys earning more that's true but that doesn't mean they're worth that much.

So you think he'd sit out the whole year when he has two years left on his contract? I don't. With a much improved receiver core, I think we've got a real shot at a SB, and he's going to want to be there.

I'm an optimist, and I believe John now has us realizing we need a whole team, and we do not want to screw that up keeping over priced old stars. And if you don't cave, there'll be less gambling testing you.

Maybe here's where we find out, if this even is a contract holdout.

Your optimism is great but with so many key players coming off serious injuries last season and so many older players it's hard to feel strongly that they'll be able to make it to the SB. It could happen but the odds are against them. They're going to need some real contributions from the rookies and the 2nd year players if they expect to go all the way.

Totally disagree and the entire NFL seems to think that way too. An elite edge guy will get drafted over an elite off ball linebacker 10/10 times and thats because you arent going to have a good defense without pressuring the QB. Heck just look at how bad our defense suffered last year without a guy who can rush.

I agree LBs need to be able to do it all but give me a combo of an average LB with an elite pass rusher over an elite LB with avg pash rusher any day of the week.

The defense notable fell off a cliff AFTER Warner got hurt. Not Bosa. Warner has always been the true leader of this defense. He is 1 of 1

IMO, it's really hard to say. But I think you just need all three phases of the defense to be a championship caliber team, one can't fully do it without the other. You can get by and get into the playoffs, but when your pass rush isn't working against a good team like Seattle the score ends up being lopsided 41-10. Then again all three phases of the 49ers defense in the divisional game last season were getting picked apart.
If his "soreness" is him actually holding out. I would 100% trade him for Max Crosby

I know the league leans that way but it's a copycat league. Trends are always changing. Elite edge rushers are aways in demand but may elite edge guys have played on losing teams. Miles Garrett. Micah Parsons. I still say a good gret LB can have a bigge rinflurence on the game. I've never seen an edge guy tat calls the signals, leadsthe team in tcklesor drops back and defends passes regularly. Don't forget many of the edge guys are actually LBs that rush off the edge. Just because the league continues to overpay edge rushers doesn't make it right. They often overpay for what are supposed to be franchise QBs or elite WRs.
