It's pretty clear that people who say the team has leverage should probably follow the gif you posted.
All Bosa has to do is play six games under current contract.
The FO is on record on saying this is a win-now, SB caliber team.
No one asked FO to shout "NO" at any question directed to them about trading Bosa. Both in March/April and now. But they have.
The 49ers made it clear they aren't trading Bosa AND that they need Bosa to win the SB.
All Bosa has to do - let me repeat it again- is to show up for 6 games at any point in regular season. He doesn't have to play a snap in the playoffs, and so forth.
So tell me, who REALLY has the leverage in this situation ?
Nick Bosa who only has to play six games to accrue a year of service and then become a free agent, and watch money thrown at him...
or
a team who says they're contenders now, say they wont trade Bosa, and who are stuck with an elite asset who only plays in 6 out of 17 games, no playoffs, and at a risk of receiving ZERO compensation for Bosa walking ?
You tell me (preferably without introduction of needless assumptions)
You think he's going to play 6 games at the end of the year then sit and watch his team go on a SB run without him?
Every NFL players dream is to play in a SB. You think he's going to sit out the playoffs over money?
There's no chance. If he does it will kill him. The locker room and the perception to everyone will be he doesn't love the game.
The niners can also franchise tag him repeatedly and keep forcing him to play 6 games while only paying him for the 6 games and likely the playoffs. It's like a great player rental just for the games that matter.
The team has all the leverage after a few games.
They can mess with him and his career significantly if they want to.
