I like the idea of adding Barr. He can play all of the LB spots and forms a nice long, athletic hook-defending duo with Warner.

Totally...heard on a podcast too that he even has a little ER to him but rarely used that way. Nice tool for Saleh.
Phoenix, thl, NY85, Hero, Woo, cciowa and the rest of you crazy cats...got a realistic off season plan in mind?

You mean trading for AB and OBJ isn't realistic??

My man, you define "realistic" any way you want.

a tool for a tool, I love it! JK.

I think if we can add Barr and draft either Bosa or Allen then Marsh is gone too. Save a little cap space and keep versatility on the field. Barr is the type of guy who can be counted on to be solid and you can find ways to get him on the field. Those times when Saleh wants to rush 3 and drop a D-lineman to "spy", there you go. No more Thomas doing this, put Barr on the line, he has to be accounted for, but can drop and spy or cover short over the middle and you'll still be able to get Buckner and Allen/Thomas on 1v1's inside or off the edge.

You can also use him as an edge in Nickel passing situations to drop on zone blitzes or come on the rush. He poses problems the offense has to account for. We don't have a lot of those players so any we can stock up on, do it!

NOTE: Marsh has no dead money hit if we cut him so if we pull this off we save another 4 mil in cap space. So, even if we have to pay Barr 7-8 mil, really, if he takes the place of Marsh it's only like 3-4....just sayin. I'm liking this idea more and more.

I'd be ok with pursuing ET but maybe it's just me, but I'm not sold on him for big money. He's had 2 injury years and we've had enough of that around here. Plus, maybe it's naivete, but I still am pulling for AC.

We need to find a replacement/competition for Tartt. Dude is always in the trainers room. If Amos hits the market(I doubt it, but hey, it's still possible with CHI salary cap problems) I say we pick him up in a heartbeat.

I'd also go for LaMarcus Joyner should he hit FA. LA has about 32 mil in cap room and 4 big FA's. Suh, Joyner, Saffold, Fowler. Suh's and Joyner's contracts from last year alone would be 25 mil. One of those 4 won't get re-signed. I don't know if LA is going to sign Joyner over Fowler since Fowler is younger and whatever guy they commit to, long-term really better be worth it because that player will be in the last couple years of his contract when they need to re-sign Goff to a mega deal so they better be able to help them compete for a SB for years.

I don't think LA will franchise tag him. But maybe they will.

I say we go get Anthony Barr to pair with Fred Warner. I don't think MINN will be able to keep him. They only have about 5 mil in cap space, are losing Sheldon Richardson, their starting C, Keaton, their K, Dan Bailey and Latavius Murray.

Barr can be what we've thought/hoped Malcolm Smith would be. We can still keep Smith at SAM since he played there when Foster was still with us or cut him. I don't care.

After that, draft Bosa or Josh Allen with the #2 and call it a day.

We can then try and pick up O-line help throughout the rest of the draft.

This way, we shore up all our major needs and look forward to a year with a healthy Jimmy and Jet and some pass rush.

Well done, JD. Couple things, starting with AB. You say a 3rd and conditional. 3rd is still a starter and much as I want AB, I don't want our you know what hanging out in the breeze...a la Reuben...or Joe Williams. Two head cases in two yrs is plenty. IDK if the article I read was exact or not, but if he really did not show up for game 16 with Steelers still in the hunt...that to me qualifies as RED FLAG. If so, a red flag to me gets maximum of a 5th, not a starter in top 3 picks. Getting another shot in the nose from a top 3 pick...we just cannot afford that. Most likely that means we dont' get him, because his value is worth more than a 3rd alone. Still, I got reuben and Joe W stuck in my craw and don't want another malcontent. Doesn't mean I don't want him, but does mean I don't want a possible blown 3rd pick as a head case.

Earl Thomas...agree 100%. Age and health. Last two yrs were not kind to him health wise. And us? Hey we lead the league in guys lost to injury two yrs running and 4 yrs overall have had the injury bug. I'll pass with you on ET.

Tartt...please , no mas. Again, injury prone and we have had our fill...time to move on. I wanted McCourty from NE, but thot it was Devin and instead was his twin, Jason so no. Sure like LaMarcus Joyner at DB. A double whammy here because he is a starter for LA Rams. We could delete their starter and add to us. Whether it is a S who can stop the run or a CB who can break up the pass, I want a DB...a healthy one.

Anthony Barr...LB (MN)….wow, homerun here JD, 4 straight pro bowls , huge leaper, great run blitzer, as well as pass blitzer, guy never stops, and he is quick as lightning. Willing to go top $$ here.

I would add for OG/OT our old friend Trent Brown. Boy would that ever torch Kyle...but it is what he really could use. So what if he can't zone block, NE ran a lot of ZB and power...and Trent makes huge holes while straight ahead blocking. Wipes out the 2nd level also. Great in RZ and especially close in. Nah...I don't think kyle would buy that either. But if it was just $6 mil?

any other 2nd tier ER...buy him.

That brings us to draft. Assuming we get a DB, a LB, hopefully another DB, and oh, say Trent Brown (OG/OT) jk..then in draft:

Bosa or Allen, assuming Q doesn't just tear up the combine.

Follow that up with DB (if we didn't nail down 2 in FA), then:

OG who perhaps can snap also...or swap with DB above.

OG

LB

DE

I like your list overall, and if no AB, well then we are screwed at #1 WR. So I am torn here...and no way leaves #1 WR empty.

I'm guessing that is more for effect than serious. amirite?

I would rather take a run at Ben Garland from Atlanta. He is 31, top 15 ranking, although pass blocking is not his strength. Still has some good years. Kyle knows him IIRC from his time there. Andy Livitre, coming off IR is also FA. Livitre is 33 so maybe they let him walk and keep Garland. In either case, I would prefer either of them over Brown as a guard.

LOL. Nice!

Yeah, from my OP, there's a couple more cuts we could make to clear up space. And LB will certainly be <$10M so that's a + too.

Post-June 1 Potential Cuts: --- Courtesy of AB81Rules/OTC
Pierre Garcon $5.88M - Released Pre-June
Garry Gilliam $5.05M - Released Pre-June
Cassius Marsh $4.2M
Malcolm Smith $4.05M
Earl Mitchell $3.7M - Released Pre-June
Brock Coyle $2.5M - $1.1M base salary GTD for injury until April 1, then GTD
Garrett Celek $2.1M
Dekoda Watson $1.55M

Me too. In my own off season plan, I had targeted SAM/ER Preston Smith & WILL Jordan Hicks but I'd love Barr as well. And Allen is highly likely at #2 (still think Bosa goes to AZ; fitting). And if that is the case, Allen is your every-down SAM/ER instead of Preston Smith. Then Hicks/Barr are even cheaper on the whole once you cut Marsh (rookie + Barr - Marsh). That frees up additional money for an ER in FA (i.e. Flowers) + rookie in the 2nd/3rd rounds.

Imagine Barr in FA, take Allen/Bosa(if there), plus Warner...now there is a 3 some worth its weight in Gold. Been posted elsewhere but with Buck inside, man that is looking like the heart of the D. Still we need starter DB in FA...and another with our 3rd pick , right after OG.

Love your cuts. Right now that is a lot of big time wasted money.

Yup...and still need a true LEO too. We'd have our DL and LB's taken care of including SAM/ER on the strong side but still need to attack Trey Flowers/Barnett/Graham/Ansah for LEO + a 2nd pick LEO if someone like Burns or Polite fall.
I hope Marquise "Hollywood" Brown falls to the 2nd rd, if we don't trade our 2nd, and we get one of the best WRs in the draft, yes he's small, but he has the speed Kyle loves. Would love to get Bosa/Allen and then Brown. Of course FA will dictate what happens.

How would you describe him AB...use from the backfield and slot. Shifty, tough but with long game breaking speed?
