I see him as a 2 at best on this roster, and he will be the go to guy as in focal point of the offense.

This is his role, he free's things up for everyone else. Defenses have to pay attention to him and can't just sit on CMC or Evans. It will even be more difficult for defenses once Kittle returns.

I think this pass offense is built on explosive plays, and Purdys strengths are layering the ball and anticipation. Deebo is mostly a LoS screen/endaround/give the ball in space kinda guy. We had BA and Pearsall for chunk crisp route plays. I dont even know who is the best route runner rn in this WR room. Evans and Drob ?

Idk, making him focal point of offense on short stuff seems very short-sighted. As someone who can take a screen and endaround ? Sure. Hes not a tackling breaking machine there as he once used to be, but Niners literally dont have anyone with YAC aside from Stribling. Speaking of Stribling, he is also not a route runner specialist and actually closer to Deebo in terms of YAC, acceleration and athleticism than guys like BA or Pearsall.

I think we are saying the same thing. Deebo will be lining up all over the field, motioning and all of that. All of this takes the defenses eyes off of the other guys, as they worry about jet sweeps, end arounds, and quick screens from Deebo. Than Deebo starts running those digs and crossing routes. He is a handful simply because of his skill set.

lol yes I know that. And I'm sure you know that the 49ers expect all their WRs to know the X, Y, and Z. Pretty sure that's the expectation of most teams WRs; they certainly don't just learn one spot.

When it comes to Deebo; enlighten me on what his position was? Since Lombardi says he was playing out of position. So was he a WR playing out of position when he lined up in the backfield as a RB? Was he a RB playing out of position when he lined up at the Z as a WR?

^ What David L is doing is picking and choosing when to say he played out of position because he obviously didn't have a good year when BA went down and Deebo had to play more X.

The problem with that is that Deebo also lined up at X in his best season in 2021; but you won't see Lombardi mention that. He also lined up at the Z; his primary WR spot in 2024; along with snaps at X, Y, and in the backfield. The stuff he's been doing prior to that season. Convenient excuse for the rough season. That's Lombardi in a nutshell though.

Grant would just say he sucked and provide nothing else.

Hence the divide in our forum. The optimistic guys lean toward Lombardi and pessimist lean more toward Cohn.

I'm right in the middle of those two idiots and call a spade a spade; and yes, can still be a fan of this team in doing so.

Back to Deebo. Man I hope we get the old contract season Deebo back Him coming to camp in shape is certainly a good start to that.

And Lynch saying that he is committed to returning kicks is freaking awesome to hear. Losing Moore after he provided the best and most consistent return man since Ginn was awful; but Deebo helps cure that sting at least on Kickoffs. The punt returner I'm thinking will either end up being Cowing or Watkins; interested in that one. The last time Cowing did it makes me never want to see him doing it again to be honest lol

The thing with Lombardi is he's not just an unabashed homer, but he's also a complete a*****e. His arrogance is off the charts for a dude who ultimately just regurgitates stats (that he likes).

I think we have different definitions of what "focal point" means. I'm thinking of Deebos role as extended Sky Moores role on the team last year.
Kick returns, endarounds, some bubble screens here and there, just with a good amount more touches than Moore.

When people talk about focal points on offense, you think about a dominant WR or RB or TE. CMC is a focal point of the offense, and was still a focal point of passing offense last year because of factors surrounding WRs (Jennings injury, Pearsall injury, etc). Deebo was a focal point in 2021.
