Preseason Week 1 2018 - Thoughts after rewatching the game...

Im convinced CJ should be replaced by Mullens. Our OL is not built to protect slow QB.
James is money. Pettis is progressing. Boldin is quetionable, but decent. JW will get on 53 with Bieda injury.
Not liking so many injuries, but thats just football. This allows others to shine. I am very impressed with late rounder GEMS being drafted by this staff!!! IE: JT.. Raw but a beast and better replace Armstead.
As this one shows, more purge needs done. Lose Armsread, Ward, etc..take cap hit now.
We pulled out win which shows how deep we are in talent. Impressive indeed, as team chemisry is apparently here!!

Just on the Oline, I did see some tweets from an analyst earlier that Dallas were not running a vanilla defense, they were using a lot of stunts etc on the line.

We went vanilla, which Kyle seems to prefer in pre-season but Dallas was not.

4) RB - I am beginning to think the problem with Joe Williams is that, when all is said and done, he needs to be a guy who gets 25 careers a game. He'll pick up a few yards here and there and then he'll bust a long one that will make all of the highlight reels. But that probably isn't going to happen for him in this offense with the guys he has in front of him. He didn't embarrass himself last night but he didn't really stand out either. Breida's injury will give him a few more chances to shine though. I guess we'll see what he does with them.

5) DL - Julian Taylor and Sheldon Day. Nuff said. Armstead and Mitchell better not be taking anything for granted..

6) LB- I was looking for Fred Warner but didn't really see him anywhere. Did he play last night?

7) Was looking for Moore and McFadden but it seems they didn't get in until late. Moore had nice coverage on one deep pass along the sideline. McFadden looks like he has really good technique. He turns his hips really well and gets into position quickly. He always seemed to be around the guy he was supposed to be covering. Hope to see more of him against better competition. One of the guys ahead of him, Powell, looked like he was getting abused most of the night. McFadden is my sleeper pick to make the team at the moment from the defensive side. James would be the pick on offense.

2) Yeah, McFadden and Moore came in at the same time and flashed on a few plays. McFaddens issue is speed and I didn't see anyone run by him.

I did see a few...in particular the play that Garoppolo completed witha guy in his face...DeMarcus Lawrence ran a stunt that Person didn't slide over to and McGlinchey could't get through him....

...or at least that how I remember it. I'm not looking at it right now.

Check out the Jet run when he ran to the right side of the OL. Right before the snap, there was a coordinated gap switch between Demarcus Lawrence and the WILL. It threw off McG and Shelton and led to a blown up play. That was kinda fancy for a preseason game.

Pretty much nailed it. Although I don't agree on his take on Mostert. One big run where the entire right side was cleared out and all he had to do was outrun a LB to the edge. Nothing special after that.

SAM: Eli Harold vs. Jeremiah Attaochu vs. Pita Taumoepenu vs. Dekoda Watson - Watson and Pita might be serviceable over Harold. Attaochu seemed absent last night
MIKE/WILL: Malcolm Smith vs. Fred Warner vs. Korey Toomer vs. Elijah Lee - Lee looked like the best out there and that may not be a good thing
RCB: Jimmie Ward vs. Emmanuel Moseley vs. Tarvarus McFadden - we badly need to give all reps to McFadden and Moore to expedite their growth over Ward, Mabin and Powell
SCB: K'Waun Williams vs. D.J. Reed - terrific depth here
LCB: Richard Sherman vs. Tarvarious Moore - need mas now
SS: Chanceller James vs. Marcell Harris - James is a keeper
P: Bradley Pinion vs. Jeff Locke - Pinion is a lock
KOR/PR: Dante Pettis vs. Jerick McKinnon vs. Trent Taylor vs. D.J. Reed - we basically gave Boldin his run so not much to see here but he has no chance of making it so we need to see the others
GR: Raheem Mostert vs. Tarvarious Moore vs. Chanceller James vs. Aaron Burbridge vs. Joe Williams - Mostert might be a lock here and Moore confirmed he's a gunner and Williams is trying out here as well

We need to beef up practices. We just took a punch in the mouth in physicality. These 1.5 hour light practices aren't preventing hammy and other issues so we might need to get more game-ready and intensity things. Texans will be even more physical.

ummm CJ isn't slow lol. one of the most mobile QBs in the NFL. he's not Watson or Wilson, but he's not slow.

STILL my biggest concern.

The OL was a "C"

I think McG will improve from each preseason game.

RG still an issue [to say the least] If we can solve this quickly, I see the OL gelling a lot faster.

He probably meant to say slow in his reads and progressions.

I agree with that.

QBs outside of Mullens did not look good. JG still can't accurately throw deep to save his life in an actual game. Wildly inaccurate on almost all of his passes. Even the ones he completed were thrown behind the WR in most cases. No excuse for that, he should be better than that whether it's preseason or not.

WRs looked good for the most part. It's a good battle for that #6 spot. Pettis looked a bit lost at times, but he definitely has a lot of ability. I would have liked to see him in the PR game more.

RBs all looked pretty mediocre and no one stood out this game to me.

On defense, I liked the pressure that Buckner and Thomas were getting while they were on the field together. Thomas's injury initially looked a lot worse, so I'm glad he is ok.

Overall, it's just one preseason game. I'm not going to read too much into it.

Poor kid.

Yeah, I was little freaked out, then I remembered it was the first preseason game...so, IDK, as long as none of the injuries are serious, its all cool.
