Irritated pass rush wasn't a pick. Understand the class was weak, but to not draft atleast Arden Key or Josh Sweat before drafting Street is ridiculous (Throw Oko in that too). If he was so good he would've had more hype pre draft. I was pretty mad after the draft ended but reading more & more I've calmed down. I like the Warner pick, like the Moore pick (I think he'll be good) and the Mcglinchey pick of course. Still thought Pettis was a reach and should've drafted a guard as well. But the other corners were fine. Solid players. Harris could be a surprise, and I pray Sherman is the teacher they clearly think of him as!

Go 9ers!

(Pettis needs to beef up about 10 pounds atleast)

Quite an unpredictable draft. Reading the Draft Forum, it made the McG pick seem like it came from out of nowhere. But breaking down why OT is needed for this team it makes perfect sense. OT is a position that goes top10, it saves money, it improves the run game, and he's a leader type.

Pettis will play an important position that has an aging veteran in Garcon. Kyle wants to plan ahead here and showed he wanted Pettis badly with the trade up. If he proves his worth then no one will care about the trade up.
Really like the Warner and Reed picks for what they are intended to do - improve pass coverage on '3rd and pass it' downs. Although Reed at slot is a projection as he was primarily an outside CB in college.
Hopefully Baalke's ACL picks sucked because they would have sucked regardless of ACL or not.

Bummer that no additional picks could be added for 2019 draft. Not something that can be counted on, but would have been nice to have. If any of the day 2/3 Edge prospects ball out, that will hurt to watch. Can't wait to see these guys play.

In fairness, 2011 was a great draft (as far as 2011-2013 was concerned). It would have been okay to be a bit of a homer after the 2012 draft...

Still early to judge last year's draft, but it looks to be every bit as good as the 2011 draft assuming all of the guys actually stay.

Summary of this Draft???

a HEAD SCRATCHER !!!

1) OT - Mike McGlinchey - The Roq was taken so this had to be the pick.
Though I fullly believed that we could have traded down and still land him,
there's really nothing to complain about since he can be a solid at the position
for the next 10 years.

Grade: A

2) WR - Dante Pettis - A mixture between the speedster Goodwin and the quickster Taylor
and it's the reason why I don't get this pick. After moving up to this spot
you almost wanna believe that we are targeting a possible #1WR, or better
yet, another CB or a pass rusher. Personally, I think we did not need to
trade up to land this guy.

Grade: C

3) LB - Fred Warner - We hit the bullseye on this guy. His motor will be running 110 miles per hour
for all 4 quarters. When all said and done, he will be the face of this draft class
for the 49ers.

Grade: A

3) FS - Tarvarius Moore - The guy is a PURE football player. He knows the game, and Lynch loves him
because he's very physical. The team projects him as a CB, so if he can learn and
play this position once Sherman is ready to walk away, then we just found a
Diamond in the Rough.

Grade: C+

4) DT - Kentavius Street - A junkyard type of player. The kid got drafted because of he's got that
" I Want It" in him.. I watched NCST 3x last year, and this guy is just hungry.
Tho considered a damaged good, he's a poor man's Solomon Thomas.

Grade: C

5) CB - DJ Reed - He will compete for the Nickel Back position, but we just drafted one in Tarvarius
as he learns how to play corner. We could have used this pick to draft a pass rusher
who had fallen this far.

Grade: C

6) SS - Marcell Harrs - I don't care who or which GM you are, when you draft a player who was hurt
the year before, it only means that you are in love with his talent. Special Team As
I hope??

Grade: C-

7) DT - Jullian Taylor - Another DT?? Is this guy just a "placeholder" or are they serious about what
talent or promised seen? Did we not need a DE???

Grade: D

7) WR - Richie James - And yet, another slot receiver. Behold Camelot !!! Dawn of a New Offense is
coming !! Are we really going to see the innauguration of Shanahan's 4 Set of
Dimunative WRs?? aka MOUSEKEETERS???

Grade: D

Not a chance. We trade down at 9 and he would have been gone at 10.
I wanted a guard and, obviously, edge. But I like Pettis and Warner and, potentially, McGlinchey. The rest I view as depth. It isnt what I wanted but I guess I can live with it. All those db's and not a single guard even in udfa.

Wondering if the lack of guard means they're happy with Garnett's transformation.

Or maybe they just rate Cooper/Tomlinson....

Thanks for starting this SY. Let's look at the whole lot.

Offensive Personnel: --- 44
QB: Jimmy Garoppolo; C.J. BeatHard & Nick Mullens
--- We're solid here, right guys?

RB1: Jerick McKinnon; Joe Williams & Jeffrey Wilson
RB2: Matt Breida; Jeremy McNichols & Raheem Mostert
FB: Kyle Juszczyk; Malcolm Johnson
--- Last year, we ran 140 inside zone runs coupled with 175 outside zone. The addition of McKinnon and with Hyde gone, more competition with Breida in year 2, and a revamped OL, you can bet your ass we'll run over 200 outside zone runs next year and probably, closer to 100 inside zone. Given that, it doesn't look like Kyle was too interested in a bigger inside-the-tackles runner. Like he said, if a RB can run, he can run and you still have to find the hole either way. He's all about splitting the carries anyhow. We now have backs who can catch the damn ball and be legit threats in the passing game.

TE: George Kittle; Garett Celek, Cole Hikutini, Cole Wick & Ross Dwelley
--- A healthy Kittle should help this unit a lot this year. I'm most excited about the battle between Hikutini and Dwelley (RZ machine).

XWR: Marquise Goodwin; Aldrick Robinson, Victor Boldin Jr. & Deontez Alexander
YWR: Dante Pettis; Trent Taylor, Richie James, DeAndre Carter & Aaron Burbridge
ZWR: Pierre Garcon; Kendrick Bourne, Max McCaffrey & Steven Dunbar
--- After listening to the ShanaLynch's presser, it sounds like last year they were just looking for a player to fit the slot YWR role. This year, they wanted to add a dynamic, long-term option there. Do not be surprised if Pettis supplants a fan-favorite in Trent Taylor. Pettis also adds a more dynamic route tree from the slot, speed and return abilities. He can also play outside at the X & Z too so Trent Taylor still has a chance to stick as our 3rd down specialist. With Goodwin's evolution out at the X and Garcon back plus the growth of Bourne, we are going to pose some real challenges for defenses in between the 20's with Kyle's X's and O's. Richie James also has a legit shot to stick with his return abilities and as being an offensive weapon.

LOT: Joe Staley; Garry Gilliam & Pace Murphy
LG: Jonathan Cooper; Laken Tomlinson & Zane Beadles
C: Weston Richburg; Erik Magnuson & Alan Knott
RG: Joshua Garnett; Andrew Lauderdale
ROT: Mike McGlinchey; Darrell Williams Jr., Andrew Marshall & Jamar McGloster
--- Nothing made me more happy than seeing this OL revamped. We still have massive question marks at G with three former first round picks vying for two starting positions but they'll be sandwiched in between Staley, Richburg and the tone-setter rookie, McGlinchey. Kyle said the running game starts with the C-G's so we'll see how that goes. It took 2/3rds of the year for the OL to get clicking so patience is a virtue with so many new pieces.

Defensive Personnel: --- 45
LDE: Arik Armstead; Ronald Blair (Kentavius Street)
NT: Earl Mitchell; D.J. Jones & Niles Scott
RDT: DeForest Buckner; Sheldon Day & Jullian Taylor
LEO: Solomon Thomas; Jeremiah Attaochu, Cassius Marsh & Patrick Choudja
--- Armstead moves to the Big End spot where he should be much more comfortable given his 3-4 DE days. The NT will be ups-for-grabs with D.J. Jones being well-liked by the FO and coaching staff. 3T just got deeper with Taylor added. Street will be redshirted with an...ummm...ACL. Base looks identical to last year at LEO with Solomon Thomas pegged for the first two downs before sliding inside to NT on 3rd downs. 3rd downs are when Saleh will tap into Marsh and Attaochu. In short, expect stout run defense, league-leading QB pressures but bottom of the barrel in sacks again (around 30).

SAM: Eli Harold; Pita Taumoepenu & Dekoda Watson
MIKE: Fred Warner; Korey Toomer, Brock Coyle, Jimmie Gilbert & Mark Nzeocha
WILL: Malcolm Smith; Elijah Lee, Donavin Newsome & Boseko Lokombo (Rueben Foster)
--- Some things never change, like the sun coming up and Eli Harold starting for the 49ers and being totally invisible. Pita should have a legit chance to compete but has to prove he's as stout as Eli and add 'some' edge rush off the strong side. MIKE and WILL be be a fuster cluck until the Rueben Foster situation is resolved. That said, Fred Warner is an excellent pickup and he's a bright guy who will have a legit shot at starting at MIKE and wearing the green communication dot...if not him, Malcolm Smith returns and can also play the MIKE. Toomer should be a big upgrade over Brock Coyle for depth. He, like Malcolm, knows this system so keep an eye on him.

RCB: Ahkello Witherspoon; Jimmie Ward, Tyvis Powell & Tarvarus McFadden
S/CB: K'Waun Williams; D.J. Reed, Emmanuel Moseley & Trovon Reed
LCB: Richard Sherman; Tarvarious Moore, Greg Mabin & Channing Stribling
--- This entire unit could be completely revamped if Sherman retains full health and explosion. Witherspoon is about to get his M.D. in how to play CB from Sherman. Ward moves back to the outside but there are three newcomers I'm excited about. K'Waun Williams recently signed a long-term contract and has ties to the coaching staff for developing him and when healthy late last year, came on, but keep your eye on D.J. Reed. He has a legit shot to supplant Williams and like Pettis, adds a ton to the return game. On the outside, we're all about those long 6'2" CB's with long arms in Tarvarus McFadden (UDFA) and Tarvarious Moore. Moore is the most intriguing b/c he can play FS in this scheme behind Adrian Colbert, posted 4.32 speed and has the make-up to compete outside and both he and McFadden, will be developed by Sherman the right way.

FS: Adrian Colbert; Dexter McCoil, Don Jones & Corey Griffin
SS: Jaquiski Tartt; Chancellor James & Marcell Harris
--- I absolutely love the Colbert + Tartt combo. The coaches do as well, extending Tartt through 2020 and Colbert's ascension sent the former first round Ward, to the outside...literally. James was having a terrific pre-season until injury stuck so the FO brought in Harris to compete for depth as SS. Again, Tarvarious Moore adds additional depth as FS as well as Ward.

Special Teams: --- 4
LS: Kyle Nelson
PK: Robbie Gould
P: Bradley Pinion; Jeff Locke
--- Nothing to see here, people. Business as usual.

KOR: Dante Pettis & Jerick McKinnon
PR: Dante Pettis; Trent Taylor & D.J. Reed
GR: Raheem Mostert & Tarvarious Moore
--- Speed kills. It's safe to say the return and coverage units have taken on a serious overhaul. Mostert was one of PFF's best gunners and if he's fully recovered, he and Moore's 4.32 speed will destroy the oppositions return game and help win the field position game. Speaking of field position, Pettis, McKinnon and D.J. Reed bring a legit return game for kickoffs and punts and should be a huge upgrade over Trent Taylor who was solid last year himself.

Go Niners!

Thanks, NCommand - nice list, man.

Not a chance. We trade down at 9 and he would have been gone at 10.

Raiders at #10 would have taken him.

Arden Key is a problem child and we already drafted one of those last year. So that's definitely out as a viable option.

From what I hear about Sweat was he had a devastating knee injury in HS in which he blew out his whole knee. Acl/mcl/pcl. He couldn't even practice most of the time and had to sit out often throughout his collegiate career.

As long as you agree with the FO you can post without being an armchair GM but if you disagree your an idiot who should quit acting like you know more than the FO.

I don't care how much Kool Aid you psh my way I'm not drinking it. We got marginally better and reached for both of our 1st two picks and drafted 4 players either still injured or we're injured all last year.

I like Pettis but it was a reach and not a need. Not only did they use a 2nd on him they wasted another pick trading up for him. From what I hear his explosiveness only comes out on returns. I'm not sure how true that is but if he can translate it to YAC he could be a stud especially considering he is a great route runner. Would have been a good pick if we didn't trade up.

I love the Warner pick, easily my favorite of the draft. Good value at a position of need. Which is the only pick I can say that about.

Moore isn't a bad pick he is extremely athletic with long arms but never played CB. It won't be as big of a transition compared to other teams thanks to cover 3. Another good pick.

Street is gonna be a redshirt big end which seems to be AA's replacement for next year. Bad pick IMO with so many good players left and multiple needs that are pressing we chose a guy who tore his ACL a month ago and isn't at a position of need. Garbage pick.

Reed is my 2nd favorite pick. Slot CB has become one of the more important positions in today's NFL and Reed looks to be a nice upgrade from Williams who I do like. Gonna be a fun camp battle to watch especially if Ward is in the mix. Love the pick.

All 3 of our next picks are coming off of injury which isn't as big of a deal considering where they were drafted. Still would have preferred to draft healthy player's.

All in all we got a little bit better. It feels like we were drafting like a team coming off a great season with a stacked roster. Not a team that went 1-11 before we were gifted a QB which KS didn't even want. We could have easily went 1-15 without Jimmy.

I'm trying to stay optimistic but I'm not a big fan of the off-season so far. I hope I'm wrong but I haven't seen anything from Lynch and KS since they joined the team to blindly trust them. We still have needs all over including some really important ones including guard and edge. Even after drafting 2 DB's I'm not sure we have a solid backup for Sherman unless that's what they are doing with Ward.
I like the draft. I really like the Pettiss pick.

Excellent draft with scheme fits and solid potential!

Many fans were clamoring for picks on day 2-3 on players who went undrafted!

Brick by brick baby!
It seem like we went out of our way to avoid the positions that were our biggest concern based on last season's play. And we drafted 4 kids with significant injury history. So overall pretty much a nightmare

This kind of reminds me of the Carlos Hyde draft. Where we could have used lots of fresh blood in the front sevenand wound up picking positions that we didn't have to fill that year. It seemed like management is too much in love with their ability to ID. Trying to hit home runs over the needs of the team that everyone can see. So thats not good.
