Let's look at that transactions:
LB Mark Nzeocha - camp fodder
ER Cassius Marsh - youth replaces Dumervil
C Daniel Kilgore - initial great depth signing
T Gary Gilliam - great depth signing
WR Marquise Goodwin - steal with his extension
P Jeff Locke - camp fodder
RB Raheem Mostert and Dekoda Watson - premier ST players
CB Richard Sherman - TBD. Love the signing but it's about play on the field.
C Weston Richburg - Massive signing and central to Kyle's offense
RB Jerick McKinnon - we couldn't secure Allen Robinson so Kyle added the next best thing; a receiving RB that offers big mismatches
MIKE Brock Coyle - great depth signing

Overall, ShanaLynch have done a nice job of locking up key depth and special teams and targeting three positions of big need in CB, C and RB.

So far, they have been unable to trade for an ER, add CB depth/insurance, lock down a LB and we have two massive holes at G. Also, Ward's $8.5M is a colossal waste of big cap space. We traded Kilgore for $5.375M more cap space (over $50M still) and lost depth.

I would agree with the players' list analysis but my grade would be a B+

I like that we didn't pay ridonkulous money on a WR like Robinson or Watkins(we got more production out of Goodwin and Garcon had near the same production playing only half the year with Hoyer and Beathard throwing the ball).

ER? At this stage an elite edge rusher is gonna cost you an arm and a leg in trade capital. You draft the next guy, you set yourself up for a while. It's like having a FQB on a rookie contract.

G's and LB's. We might have to wait out Foster's legal problems for a handful of games this year but we have Coyle who really started playing better in our system down the stretch and is serviceable as a placeholder and the team was always really high on Smith. They invested heavily in that position with FA and draft the past 2 years, I doubt they were gonna make any major moves in that area in either draft of FA. If they feel Foster is gonna get his shista together, there's no need(in their minds) to spend big on the position.

I see us drafting a SAM, ER, WR, G and RB this draft. The draft is deep in G's and RB's so we have the potential for steals in those spots and so I expect the first round pick to either be an ER or a trade back to the middle of the 1st for a WR.

Rome wasn't built in a day and a year and a week ago we were projecting we wouldn't even compete for the playoffs til year 3 or 4 and now we're talking about filling all our holes for a SB run in year 2?

Let's wait until after the draft to start seeing how many holes we truly have left. My guess is, we'll only have 3 or 4 holes left for next off-season by TC. Which, in year 2 of a MASSIVE rebuild is pretty effing good.

F - LB Mark Nzeocha - camp fodder
B - ER Cassius Marsh - youth replaces Dumervil
A - (FOR TRADING HIM) - C Daniel Kilgore - initial great depth signing
A - T Gary Gilliam - great depth signing
A - WR Marquise Goodwin - steal with his extension
C - P Jeff Locke - camp fodder
A - RB Raheem Mostert and Dekoda Watson - premier ST players
B - CB Richard Sherman - TBD. Love the signing but it's about play on the field.
A - C Weston Richburg - Massive signing and central to Kyle's offense
C - RB Jerick McKinnon - we couldn't secure Allen Robinson so Kyle added the next best thing; a receiving RB that offers big mismatches
F - MIKE Brock Coyle - great depth signing

so far so good, solid C!!
Jimmy G never made it to free agency, so he is already excluded.
I'd go with a B- right now, Sherman, Richburg, and McKinnon are all great scheme fits and while I was nervous about the Sherm signing the team protected themselves with contract language. As far as McKinnon goes, while I like him as a player his contract is a little richer than I anticipated(I probably wouldn't have exceeded 5mill per year) , so that's really the only thing to bring the grade down. Another thing that can't be overlooked is the importance of bringing Brock Coyle back, especially given his value as LB depth, special teams prowess, and Reuben's uncertain future.

Gonna have to give it a C. Tons of potential and could be an overall A. The problem I have with the free agents are atleast 5 of them were on IR last season. Now if they are healthy and make it through the season then it was definetly an A. The problem I have is the IF. The two major signings sherman and richburg both coming off of serious injuries. If they have complications and can't compete then they 9ers have wasted an extreme amount of cap money on players that had red flags. I think with the cap they had they could have pursued players with less ???? Again I am not hating the signings just have some big question marks as to the health of them. This has the potential to be a great free agency class or one we all talk about for the wrong reasons. 2 cents.

I really appreciate the analysis here however, if Richburg is central to Kyles offense, you have to say that McKinnon is at least somewhat also.

sending him out in motion into the slot while in an up tempo attack will give us an advantage , especially when we use our base offense , Juice can stay in to block, and then as a safety valve receiver , while Jerick is one on one with a LB or safety , and that creates some opportunities for Kittle, Garcon and Goodwin to exploit

plus Jerick will fit in nicely with our stretch running scheme, the same with Breida and Williams , their versatility will allow us to get creative and do some things we couldn't do last season, but I would hope we will add a power back to fight for those hard yards in short yardage situations
Too early to grade. I'd give us a solid B+ because from what other teams are paying some of the FA's we have gotten some steals. The Jimmy G, Goodwin, Richburg deals are steals IMO.

Yeah, I'm up to C+ right now and like another poster stated, it has potential to be much higher if all players are healthy and play at their capabilities and at a high level.

Yes sir, I can totally understand this perspective as well. The players we did go after and players we did acquire, I had targeted so I'm happy overall esp. if all get back to form from injury.

To play Devil's Advocate the Eagles weren't great in year 1 and they won a Super Bowl in year 2 with Pederson (people didn't rate the hire when they got him). A quick turnaround can happen if you have the QB with good talent on offense and a solid defense.

I like your analysis. Great depth and used our money that we would've probably used for robinson with a back that is young and has a lot of potential with this offseason. But I felt like we couldve done more. We still could, but its clear that lynch and co are focusing on finding our stars in the draft.

I still think we should bring in another WR and OG. A LB can be drafted at 9.

Overpaid big time for a 3rd down back

Still haven't addressed the Guard, LB, wr, pass rusher positions

Grade D+

D+ is harsh. All of the guys brought in have plenty of upside and instantly make the team better.

Remains to be seen if Sherman can be the same after the injury (bowman wasn't). I dont think Jerrick is that much better than carlos. The Center position should be better.

From Sus I am shocked it wasnt an F

My grade is a B as of now. They addressed their needs at CB, C, RB, and Edge and all the players signed could be key contributors next season. I think the grade could easily go to A if Sherman and Richburg both are 100% healthy and play to the form they have in the past. It could also become a C or worse if they cant.

Despite the whining about McKinnon's deal it will not hurt the Niners cap space now or in the future. If he is a great fit then he is well worth the money. If not, they can release him and move on. Shanny loves him for his scheme and that is good enough for me and this point.

I know it's not popular but I feel Lynch has opened himself up to feel some scrutiny. With signing alot of injured players if they don't work out, ouch. And on the flip side IF they do he will get a pat on the back. It's a gamble which I am not sure he had to take at this point of the rebuild. But I do like the potential.
