Just outbid the Cowboys for Earl Thomas in free agency. That seems like a reasonable goal to achieve.

We won't get Bosa, so it is whatever. Just draft another interior DT and stick with Marsh another year. Hopefully hes the next Aaron Donald.

Wide receiver. Yeah, not getting my hopes up. Shanahan will need to stop discriminating against big bodied receivers. There's a couple of guys I've got my eyes on like DK Metcalf, Hakeem Butler, N'Keal Harry. These aren't Shanahan prototype receivers that are 5'9''.

There cannot be any injury to either Staley or McGlinchey because of Gilliam (complete garbage), Williams is a project and Shon Coleman is a big ?.
Garnett is notoriously unreliable.
Magnusson looks good but is unproven.

We allowed 125 QB hits this season and the rate at which this happen was irrespective of starters at QB or WRs.

The OL is so onion skin paper thin, not one injury can happen to tackle and we better not be forced to dig deep at OG.

The OL is one injury away from a disastrous season where Jimmy running for his life on his surgically repaired ACL is just not a good scenario.

Please, build the lines. Please.

I have to be realistic with this FO. They love themselves some Richburg and Tomlinson.

Ali Marpet already resigned so he's off the market. My next RG target is Mark Glowinski from the Colts (their stellar OL). He's currently ranked as the #10 G. Resign Mike Person (who dropped from #4 to #18) to compete for depth including at C. I'd like either a LT or LG to be taken with the 2nd pick.

Both Tomlinson and Richburg badly need some REAL competition and we need some real talent at RG at least.

The OL got worse the second half of the season except Staley, who like always, got better, ending the year as the #6 T overall.

The team have added a multitude of wide receivers over the last two years including using a second. What so people are really going to be mad they didn't wildly over pay for Watkins or robinson who both didn't even come close to 1k yards?

Oh who was the plethora of edge talent last year we missed out on? Geez really missed out on Harold Landry.

I respect the point on FS. Even though Colbert looked like the future last offseason, they should have brought in more insurance than DJ reed.

The only one whining is you.

And he's still accurate though. He's also talking about years...not just this year. Clearly, we've been unable or unwilling to secure a blue chip ER, FS and WR...not really a secret to us 49er fans.

As to last year, Robinson was their #1 WR playing in an offense who was 25th in passing attempts and in year one of coming back from an ACL. You're out of your mind if you don't think he would have stabilized our ZWR position and had over 1K in our system. But if you're cool with Garcon, Goodwin and Bourne, great...how much did those 3 cost us in cap space this year for their epic contributions? Yeah, I'd take Robinson, thank you.

Having Robinson meant we could have used that trade-up for Landry instead. Much bigger need than Pettis who is now, simply replacing Goodwin at XWR, like McGlinchey replacing Brown. How much was really gained...same needs still exist today. And the FO was once again the bridesmaid on Mack as well...like Garrett and soon to be, Bosa. We good with Marsh though. Obviously, nobody could have challenged that dude!

Single high FS? Kind of a big deal in this defense. I actually don't fault them for this one although keeping Brown meant they could have picked up Derwin James instead.

So yeah, he's still accurate. The FO didn't have a plethora of options this last year (as an example) but they made their choices and they could still work out just fine. We'll see over time.

They might love them but the tape doesn't lie and neither does 125 hits. I really hope we turn to FA to find some help at the OL. KS and JL arrogantly believed their small average WRs would be able to do well and it cost KS a FQB. I hope he learned his lesson and doesn't think the poor pass-blocking is just going to help itself with a FQB on a surgically repaired ACL. I hope someone is listening.

Build the lines. Please.

All this please. Please .

Draft is going to be:

1.ER or passrusher(Q),

2. hopefully OT or OG 2nd/ or conceivably another ER, esp if we draft Q.

3-5: LB, CB , FS depending on whether Lynch buckles down and gets serious in FA.

Therefore:

FA:

ER if any there and if guy is decent, overpay . We need two in FA/draft, and if a good 3rd one, him too. But has to be quality.

CB and again if decent, overpay to get him here. Then find the next one who could start.

LB. we need two, so get one for sure and two if true starters. (Even 1 would be appreciated)

FS starter, not a has been.

OG but if not a starter, pass. We gotta have starters, we already got backups.(playing as starters). If two get a second one.

OT but starter only. If lynch gets us chopped liver OT, we got backups. Again, we need starter.

Note: No order to this as it is FA . But this yr John better bring his checkbook with lots of checks. IF he can nail down 2,3 or 4 starters, that is just something we don't have to do again in draft. So buy, John, buy. Caveat is no backup material. We got a teamful of that, maybe as many as 12-13 of 'em.
STARTERS....just starters. The worst thing that could happen is we get a "RIchburg" type starter, and that is a ball buster. Just cant do that again.

You'll notice no. #1 WR. If we jump up with only 5 picks then we better be using our picks from 2020 to do so. We need LINES, and then the back 7 on D.

Last yr we got the McG, Jet and Pettis, and sigh, Richburg. This yr we get lines and back 7 D. Sorry Kyle, no WR until you protect your qB , get an ER, LB, CB, FS, and OT + OG. Hopefully one of those also can snap. Don't do like last yr and HOPE your crappy OL gets better. It is a FAIL right now for protecting the one hardest guy to get...FR QB. For gosh sakes, both JL and Kyle need to use their football wisdom and protect jimmyG. If not, then neither makes it 6 yrs here.
[ Edited by pasodoc9er on Jan 4, 2019 at 8:22 AM ]
The above scenario only works if Kyle can be kept in check re: #1 WR (unless an Antonio B type), but that is FA /trade. Also if he just has to have an offensive player not OG or OT, Mayhew, Peters, Lynch, Saleh(??? Maybe not), and perhaps the new guy being talked about, need to keep him from doing that. JL does have control over top 90 as i recall. And jeez, listen to the scouts and use their input. But no 1 man picks. Make it either unanimous or at least a large majority of F.O. Kyle getting his way with anything but OLinemen...cant happen in draft. FA ...fine. But NOT draft.
Free Agency/Draft Retooling Plan:

Coaching Changes: None, but wanted either Todd Bowles or Ed Donatell hired as the Defensive Coordinator.

Notes:
Jimmy Garoppolo will only count $20M this year.Do not resign DeForest Buckner. He's only counting $5.79M in 2019 and then we can exercise his 5th year option ($10M) and then Franchise Tag him cheap ($14-$16M) since he plays on the interior. No rush.Solomon Thomas adds around 5-10 pounds and gets back to training inside at 3T/1T to pair with DeForest Buckner at 1T/3T. Last year, the FO paid out $87.8M which included extending our own and signing free agents to these core players. This total also included $37M to Jimmy Garoppolo.

NC, is that the same Glowinski that was trash in Seattle and got waived? INDI is a power team. He sucked at zone in Seattle(if it's the same guy).

I just looked, and it is the same guy.

Yes, went from starter to 4th string in SEA. Does not appear to be a good fit here

They run mostly zone...see the Person thread.
Saffold is an interesting option
Didn't know where to put it but it certainly impacts team information....
