Team should trade a 7th rounder for keelan cole on the jags. In case nobodies noticed all the jags do is crank out fantastic receivers that get stuck with bortles.

Cole has obj catching talent and is being wasted over there.

That would be my list.

Center...man, I've been thinking about that one a lot today. Just WAY too many hits on all 3 QB's this year and no excuse as we're a top 10 rushing team, play action and 2 of the 3 QB's have a quick release.

Me too. He was easily the worst player on the field yesterday, and has had a really bad season overall. I really hope he can turn it around but he is so bad this year that I think we need to look for his replacement. That free agent contract makes me want to bash my head into the wall at this point.

And Tomlinson is such as average G as well. Person is 31 and unsigned. And we need a developmental LT this year to learn from Staley before to rides off into the sunset. Yikes. Run blocking is really nice but...

Well, everyone is dancing around the OL thing but here are the cold, hard, facts. Kyle is obviously wedded to the ZBScheme. That is, his OL is great at run blocking but looking at the QB hits, (plus pull tape on any game and watch our QBs get rammycackled), and you see an OL that can't do pass pro. To most folks, really poor pass pro leads to the inevitable QB injury. GRanted JimmyG's injury was NOT The result of poor OL blocking. He was unwisely just trying to gain a few more yards in a losing effort of a game. That said, the gross # of QB hits leads directly to QB injury. One would think that blowing $137 mil on your QB ...would lead GM/HC to protect his azz. And obviously that has not happened.

What this boils down to is the best playcaller in the NFL has to have his ZBS be tip-top at the expense of adequate QB protection. Doesn't seem to be a quandary for kyle, altho he has gotten a taste of what missing your FR QB can do to yor W/L record as well as the overall production of the team. With a healthy QB we do way better than with JG on the sidelines and CJ our Qb. As luck would have it , kyle/john picked a dandy 3rd string QB who is very obviously our #2...and who knows in the future. Thing is kyle and john have minimized QB protection to emphasize ZBS and a great running game.

Question: if that is the case, how do we fix that? Kyle wants ZBS first, second and foremost. And that comes at the expense of offering his QBs up at the alter of being injured. So how in the heck do we fix something that our HC is definitely the cause of/ or force behind? This is kyle's Philosophy and he obviously isnt primarily concerned about keeping his QB safe. ZBS is always his first goal. Somebody offer up a solution....please?

Oh, and the obvious fact that kyle's ZBS success in the run game sets up his spectacular passing game... well, one sets up the other...but QB protection therefore gets short shrift.

Put another way, QB protection is low man on the totem pole....or a sacrifice for the mind blowing ZBS run/pass game. How the f***can we fix that?

I agree with this analysis and our centre is not snapping good enough. A Centre and Guard who are good for pass protection would make a stronger pocket and would be welcome in my view.

Earl Thomas, S

The fit: 49ers
Thomas' holdout to begin 2018 ended quickly, and unfortunately his season was cut short, too. A broken leg figures to be healed by the time free agency begins, and Thomas' skill set clearly has not diminished. A return to Seattle feels far-fetched, but a reunion with a former Seahawks teammate does not. The 49ers have a glut of cap space and a need to beef up all three levels of their defense. GM John Lynch has shown aggressiveness in spending and surely wouldn't mind adding a player at the position he too played.
Here's my early offseason plan:

Reserve/Future deals:

WR Max McCaffrey
WR Steven Dunbar Jr.
WR Jordan Smallwood
TE Marcus Lucas
OG Najee Toran
OT Christian DiLauro
DE Ryan Delaire
CB Tarvarus McFadden
FS Terrell Williams Jr.

Tenders:

RB Raheem Mostert - RFA Lowest
OLB Elijah Lee - ERFA $645K
CB Greg Mabin - ERFA $645K

Cap Cuts: Currently have $63M for 2019 in cap space

OT Garry Gilliam - $5.05M saved
DE Cassius Marsh - $4.2M saved
NT Earl Mitchell - $2.95M saved
OLB Dekoda Watson - $1.55M saved

$13.75M saved, minus $1.98M for top 51 rule, means $11.77M in true savings

Free Agency: Roughly $75.237M under before Tenders.

Re-Signings:

RG Mike Person - 3yr, $15M, $3M Fully GTD signing bonus, 2019 base fully GTD, 2020 base GTD for injury, per game RBs, and Workout bonuses each year

LB Mark Nezocha - 1yr, $1M, $100K signing bonus

PK Robbie Gould - 2yr, $5M, $2M Signing Bonus, 2019 base fully GTD

P Bradley Pinion - 3yr, $5M, $1M signing bonus

New Signings:

WR Quincy Enunwa - 5yr, $45M, $9.5M fully GTD

DE Dante Fowler Jr. - 3yr, $30M, $10M fully GTD

SAM LB Anthony Barr - 5yr, $50M, $15M fully GTD

FS Earl Thomas - 3yr, $30M with incentives, $8M fully GTD

2019 NFL Draft:

Rd 1- LEO Rashan Gary, Michigan if no Bosa
Rd 2- CB Michael Jackson, Miami
Rd 3- OT Mitch Hyatt, Clemson
Rd 4- DT Demarcus Christmas, Florida State
Rd 6- SAM CeCe Jefferson, Florida
Rd 6(Comp)- Traded for a 2020 5th Rd pick

Pierre Garcon is kept for now, as no money is GTD, even for injury, but likely a June 1 cut, same for Malcolm Smith, I have to see if he has GTD for injury if so, then June 1 Designation.

We should have about $30M to carryover into 2020.

DeFo gets his 5th yr option picked up, if new deal, I say 6yr, $125M, $60M Fully GTD range(It's not gonna be cheap, but we NEED to keep DeFo, better to lock him up now than play franchise tag when we have Kittle a FA after 2020).

AA gets either a redid deal, like 3yr, $18M ish, he's s solid DE, who has improved his game this season.

Remember this is EARLY. We also need a LS, Colin Holba is signed for 2019, so he could be the guy, as Nelson is suspended the first 6 games of 2019.

53-Man Roster:

QB: Garoppolo, Mullens, Beathard
RB: McKinnon, Breida, Mostert
FB: JUICE
WR: Goodwin, Pettis, Enunwa, Bourne, James, Taylor
TE: Kittle, Celek, Dwelley
OL: Richburg, Staley, McGlinchey, Person, Tomlinson, Hyatt, Magnuson, Coleman, Garnett

DE: Fowler, Gary, AA, Street, Taylor, Blair
DT: DeFo, Day, Jones, Christmas
LB: Barr, Lee, Warner, Nzeocha, Jefferson,
CB: Sherman, Witherspoon, Jackson, Williams, Reed, Moore
S: Thomas, Tartt, Harris, Colbert

ST: Gould, Pinion, Holba

Oh man, if the Niners draft Rashan Gary, NC is going to lose his s**t.

I don't think Fowler or Barr will be pursued. Fowler is the antithesis of the type of character Shanahan wants, and the SAM LB is virtually the right guard of the defense. I don't expect resources to be allocated at a position that sees about 5% of total snaps(doesn't even see a snap vs the Rams).

Shouldn't Barr be able to play WILL at a high level?

Maybe but he got abused by the Rams(gave up 3 TDs) when he had to pick up crossers. He'd be asked to do that here every single game.

I take it you are not a Rashan Gary fan? Who are your favorites for this years draft, or is this too early to know at this time?

Haha...he's just not 'my' type of ER. But he's a good player.

The experts are all in the Draft forum...we've got some epic ones in there. Just ask and they will respond. I'm more of a pro personnel guy over draft guru. I lean on those draft guys a lot.

Well, #1 pick is still possible, would love Bosa, but at 2 I'd take Josh Allen for sure, dynamic edge rusher.
