Pre or post June 1st, we can cut Zane Beadles ($3.5M), Earl Mitchell ($3.1M), Garrett Celek ($2.05M), Aldrick Robinson ($2.05M), Eli Harold ($1.907M), Laken Tomlinson ($1.6M), etc.

Got Cap Space?

Will DJ Jones develop quickly enough to make Mitchell expendable? If so...why bother when we have so much cap space? The nice thing is they don't really have to worry and can let the best players rise to the top strictly based on ability...no shuffling older vets out to pasture to save money. Of the guys you mention above I'd say Mitchell is the only guy who is safe. A lot of completion this year and we haven't even had the draft! No DBs?

It's D.J. Jones and Sheldon Day. Day can play both 1T/3T and we have extra interior depth at 3T with Armstead and Thomas. We certainly don't need to cut Mitchell though but Jones may make him expendable.

Yeah, I have a whole list of guys we can cut for more cap space with better players already on the team and we haven't even hit the draft, where we'll bring in another 20+ players.

Examples:

...you can probably figure out who can replace these guys who are already on the roster.

Assessment: It looks like a trade back might be the best way to go to help close that big gap between 9 and 59. It's highly unlikely we get premier players at our biggest needs: CB,G,ER,T,LB. But the 3-year rebuild does seem to be right on schedule, if not a year ahead thanks to Jimmy Garropolo.

Great! This is how I like to view the draft...which positions are most likely in which rounds? Not necessarily one person in a mock. Then the best player available can be used in those positions. I would add WR to each round.

For instance who might be available:
1-9: LB R Smith; OG Nelson; CB Jackson; OT Wynn; Edge Davenport; WR Sutton/Washington/Ridley
2-59: OLB Jefferson; C/G Bozeman; CB Hughes/Kelly/Stewart/WR Moore

OK...too soon! Makes me anxious for the draft to get here. Watched pot?

Haha, yeah, it does help prioritize and then you can target players who may be available there based on your big board. It gives you perspective on moving up and back too. We're certainly a team that seriously should consider a trade back here and acquire 2-3 more picks. It's not about BPA...it's BPA at your biggest position of need. And sometimes that matches up perfectly, like with DeForest Buckner.

Wow, when you say 2nd round pick and then look at the board, all those many great OGs/Cs and that inccludes those that play both, the bulk of the best are found from 21 (Wynn) to #35 (Braden), with 30( Hernanadez) and #31( Connor Williams) in between and that is where we aren't. I don't think Kyle intends to go thru this season and not fill in those two OG slots. I just don't believe he'd do that. So, we need to massage this a bit, and maybe have a two pronged approach. Design it so that if Nelson falls to 9, we go ahead and take him. Otherwise if not there, we may have to sacrifice a shot at Roquan(who we desperately need) and trade down into 30 (Hernandez) and 35 Braden. We would have to add in one of our 4ths (124) to make it work but we would still be short 33 points... but Roquan/ is hot stuff so maybe he'd garner a #30 and #35 alone . But hey we couldn't have done better with that 2nd than JG. No effing way. That was a stunner and moved up our contending for SB by a whole yr. Some teams NEVER get a SB contending QB...but we got ours and that 2nd was really well spent. Since no one team owns # 30 and #35 that means a complicated double trade down, assuming both OGs stay at where they are projected. And that makes it even harder.

Now tho, we have to face facts and even tho I would like Roquan or Landry, et al, maybe it is in the plan to see if Nelson makes it down that far, and if not, then plan to trade the pick of Roquan/Landry/ Minka/ ?/ down to Late first (30 Hernandez) and extra 2nd #35(Braden Smith) plus a 4th (124). With a top 10 we should get that even tho we are 33 points short.(ok we could throw in a 6th to make it work) But that may be the only way we are going to crack that 21-35. range where 4 of those top flite OGs are sitting. If lNelson is there, we have to take him but if not, Plan B. That means passing on a LB/ DE that we need desperately. But this is the penalty of not taking Norwell and his $13.5 mil per sal in FA. It means sacrifice here where there is a huge need on our part for that D player. Ouch.

A lot depends on who exactly Kyle wants. If he wants Wynn, ok then we have to recalibrate. But the idea is to target those 4 guys, 21-35.
At least that is one opinion on how to land two really nice OGs. Then instead of half fixing the OL it and the O are finished. Use #59, 70, 74 for DE, LB, CB., plus the rest of our draft all D.

I've been waiting for Maddog's Board! Where the heck is it?

Edit: Never mind...he sneaked it in when I wasn't looking! Sheesh! March 9th...he'd better get his act together and keep up with the McShay's and Kipers! LOL!

I hear you doc!

The narrative is that the draft is deep at interior OL but the question is, are we really in position to grab a few (including a T)?

So if we stay pat, who would you pick?

I'm guessing something like this and ideally, we'd do a small trade back and still get our guy.

1st round | 9th overall - ER Harold Landry
2nd round | 59th overall - LT Brian O'Neill
3rd round | 70th overall - G Austin Corbett
3rd round | 74th overall - CB Kevin Tolliver
4th round | 128th overall - WR Marcell Ateman
5th round | 143rd overall - FS Jordan Whitehead

Glad you found it! I'll have the link in my OP and update when he adds the 253. MD is the best. McShay and Kiper's got nothing on our own MD.

CBS has no QB in the top 9! So much for reality!

Yeah, time to turn the page over to the experts!
Based on those rankings I'd be stoked with:

Roquan Smith
Mike Gesicki
Brian O'Neill
Rashaad Penny
Marcell Ateman or Kemoko Turay
Dorance Armstrong or Deon Cain
