Good article I agree with it for the most part, especially on the draft. They should try and fill FS, WLB during free agency for sure. I would disagree on richardson and instead try and focus resources on a sam LB who can rush off the edge a little bit. Anthony barr would be great there. Also in terms of Will id go all in on CJ Mosley instead or KJ. In terms of Earl I do wonder if he has his eyes definitively set on the Cowboys, and I wonder if he would consider us. If he does, thats going to be tough trying to compete with them, when you factor in no state income tax. Are there any other single high safeties on the market?

Biggest needs:
1. Edge
2. Will
3. FS
4. WR
5. Sam
6. CB
7. Swing/developmental tackle
8. overall depth

Yeah, even with those Seattle dudes plus Bennett, they were 13th in points allowed last year. 8th now without them all.

But with Kyle's offense, we only need to be average in points allowed to be very competitive.

On your 1-8, which I like, which pick/round would you target each or go the FA route?
1. Edge - Draft number one pick no if ands or buts.
2. Will - Free agency
3. FS - Free agency. Im not sure how well a rookie would be able to step into this role day one.
4. WR - Draft 2/3 round pick and/or Tyrell Williams
5. Sam - free agency or draft(4th/5th). T
6. CB - draft(2/3 round) and free agency. I think we should grab a bargain bin type player in free agency, someone to push akhello and tarvarius
7. Swing/developmental tackle - draft( 4th/5th)
8. overall depth - a mixture of draft and free agency.
The above videos are auto-populated by an affiliate.
IMO if we can get and ER and WR that can contribute next season and show potential to be studs they can start to right the ship and i will have faith in this plan if not then who knows

Yes sir. I'll cover the very early, preliminary free agency plan/targets. Keep in mind, many of these guys will be franchised tagged or resigned and I haven't fully sorted out the UFA vs. RFA's yet. I also haven't fully looked at scheme fit.

(Name - Position - Age - Team - December PFF Grade - Position Rank) --- Notes

1. EDGE - (Trey Flowers LEO 25 NE 89.7 #2 ED; Brandon Graham LEO 31 PHI 89.2 #4 ED; DeMarcus Lawrence LEO 27 DAL 89.1 #5 ED; Dee Ford LEO 28 KC 88.6 #7 ED; Jadeveon Clowney LEO 26 HOU 73.4 #30 ED; Shaquil Barrett LEO 26 DEN 72.4 #34 ED & Frank Clark LEO 25 SEA 70 #40 ED) --- no excuses this year for every down LEO's. Bosa is still your #1 draft pick to pair with one of these studs. There is also a deeper group of specialists for nickel such as: Brian Orakpo, Dion Jordan, Clay Matthews & Derrick Morgan (older) or situational ER's like Dante Fowler & Shane Ray (younger).
2. WILL - (Jordan Hicks MIKE 26 PHI 72.6 #19 LB; Denzel Perryman MIKE 26 LAC 70.1 #24 LB; Anthony Barr SAM 70 #26 LB; C.J. Mosley MIKE 26 BAL 69 #28 LB & K.J. Wright WILL 29 SEA 67.1 #U/R) --- the MIKE and WILL are interchangeable in our scheme and Warner could use some veteran help. Malcolm Smith has tendonitis in his achilles. Cut the dead weight.
3. FS - (Earl Thomas FS 30 SEA 91.3 #3 S; Ha Ha Clinton-Dix FS 26 WAS 81 #8 S; LaMarcus Joyner FS 28 LAR 72.2 #31 S; Tyrann Mathieu FS 27 HOU 76.1 #20 S; Landon Collins SS 25 NYG 76.2 #19 S) --- you know what you have to do here John Lynch.
4. WR - (Quincy Enunwa XWR 26 NYJ 71.7 #40 WR; Tyrell Williams ZWR 27 LAC 69.9 #47 WR; Devin Funchess ZWR 24 CAR 69 #53 WR & Donte Moncrief ZWR 25 JAX 62.8 #84 WR) --- there is some speed and size on the market playing with some pretty crappy QB's. Ask yourself how'd they'd play with Garoppolo. Kyle needs another burner at the XWR spot from the draft for when Goodwin goes down but he might have his size here.
5. SAM/ER - (Preston Smith SAM/ER 26 WAS 79.4 #16 ED & Shaquil Barrett SAM/ER 26 DEN 72.4 #34 ED) --- imagine having a SAM who can also rush effectively from the strong side and who rarely has to come off the field.
6. CB - (Jason Verrett RCB 27 LAC #U/R; Kareem Jackson RCB 30 HOU 87.7 #2 CB; Ronald Darby - I.R. LCB 25 PHI 70.6 #28 CB & Rashaan Melvin LCB 29 OAK 56.9 #92 CB) --- we took a chance on Sherman's achilles; maybe they do the same for Verrett since he'd be cheaper now. We could also use a couple of these guys for 2 years to help develop our youngsters behind them. Age/speed isn't as important as technique is in our scheme.
7. Swing/Developmental LT - If Staley retires: (Cameron Fleming LT 26 DAL 69.2 #U/R or Donovan Smith LT 25 65.6 #47 T)
8. Overall Depth - (Mike Person RG 30 SF 75.5 #6 G or Ali Marpet LG 26 73.2 #8 G) --- sign our own since OL can play well into their 30's or pay big and secure Marpet for 5 years. Resign Sheldon Day. Consider signing Buckner to a long-term deal since he had an above average year. If you resign him next year, if we add effective LEO's, his effectiveness and price could go through the roof.

Outside of Bosa, I'll let you guys pick the next 4 players.

Way-to-early off season 'retooling' plan.

Notes: Jimmy Garoppolo will only count $19.35M this year. Do not resign DeForest Buckner. He's only counting $5.79M in 2019 and then we can exercise his 5th year option ($10M) and then Franchise Tag him cheap ($14-$15M) since he plays on the interior. No rush. Pierre Garcon and Malcolm Smith are just too costly to cut so they add veteran depth for 2019.

Salary Cap: We're projected to have $65.4M before cuts.
2019 Cap Cuts/Savings: Arik Armstead saves $9M + Garry Gilliam $5M + Cassius Marsh $4.2M + Earl Mitchell $2.95M + Garrett Celek $2.1M + Brock Coyle $1.8M + Dekoda Watson $1.5M + Malcolm Smith $1.25M + Pierre Garcon $1.2M + K'Wuan Williams $1.1M + Matt Dayes $645K + Trent Taylor $600K + Godwin Igwebuike $570K
2019 Total Cap: $97.3M

Free Agency: Over The Cap was used for free agency $ projections.
ER Trey Flowers 25 NE 89.7 #2 ED $17M APY - Franchise tagging him would cost over $17M and NE may want to lock up LT Trenton Brown also who won't be cheap. A saturated market could bring the cost down some but pairing him on the strong side with Nick Bosa at LEO and throw in an excellent rotational ER Preston Smith, suddenly we have a strength.
FS Earl Thomas 30 SEA 91.3 #3 S $11M APY - Absolute no-brainer and Adrian Colbert will learn from the master.
NT/DT Grady Jarrett 25 86.2 #13 DI $10M APY - Huge upgrade over Earl Mitchell allows Buckner to stay at 3T and Solomon Thomas to move to Big End and we can cut Arik Armstead's $9M with depth with Street and Taylor.
SAM/ER Preston Smith 26 WAS 79.4 #16 ED $9M APY - A real 6'6" 255 4.61 SAM who can cover and rush from the strong side and who never has to come off the field. Rotate with Bosa and Flowers or combination of all three in nickel.
ZWR Devin Funchess 24 CAR 69 #53 WR $8M APY - Enormous catching radius, security blanket, excellent blocker in the run and screen game and a RZ target (21 TD's) who should thrive with Garoppolo and Kyle's play calling and route refinement (like Marquise Goodwin).
WILL Jordan Hicks 26 PHI 72.6 #19 LB $7M APY - Veteran MIKE who moves to space at WILL to pair with Fred Warner and Preston Smith. Will learn both spots.
LCB Rashaan Melvin 29 OAK 56.9 #92 CB $4M APY - Veteran CB depth who fits our prototype to compete with Witherspoon and Moore.
RG Mike Person 30 SF 75.5 #6 G $4M APY - Reward our own with Joshua Garnett adding a push and depth.
Special Teams - PK Robbie Gould ($3.5M APY); P Bradley Pinion ($2.5M APY); RB Raheem Mostert ($1.2M APY); LS Kyle Nelson ($1.1M APY); WILL Elijah Lee ($1M APY) & SAM Mark Nzeocha ($800K APY) - Reward our own.

I'm considering going the 49ers off-season stuff just to press the beat writers to ask these questions from Lynch. I think they've gotten a HUGE pass so far. Again I know people hate Grant, but no one else is asking hard questions.

It took our press almost 2 years to ask KYLE if he plans on using Thomas inside on run and passing downs and in one spot.
Has Coleman received any PT? Is that guy capable of being a back up?

Phoenix seems to be pretty high on him as a backup at least.

Really solid plan. I would add two remarks. Shanahan stresses speed, so I'm not sure funchess would be the guy. Also, I was thinking that the 2nd round pick is probably going to be another OL. I believe it might be someone who can play guard year one, and then slide to tackle once Staley retires.
I'd be willing to bet deletion of my account that there's 0% chance Kyle wants Devin Funchess.
