Hyder at $3M in 2021 cap hit wise,

AB, if the 49ers resign Hyder for $3m I will never doubt you again, but that looks laughable when trash players like Shaq Lawson are getting more than triple that number.

This would be the second good season he's had throughout his career, that's probably why he was cheap to begin with. I can't see anyone offering a ton of money just because of this season, especially for someone close to turning 30.

If you're a team that's desperate for edge rush, you're not going to offer him more than $3m? Yeah, right, give a break.

As I said, Shaq Lawson got 3 yrs, $30m. Have you seen his production? Hyder is a substantially better player. And Lawson isn't the only mediocre edge guy that got paid last year.

Maybe. I'm sure some team will get desperate and overpay for someone who's only had two productive seasons.

And I don't too much about Shaq other than he's still young so maybe they see some untapped potential In him?

Either way, I fully expect Hyder to be a niner next year regardless.
Trust me, I want Hyder back. $3m would be an insane bargain for him.

I just don't think he's dumb enough to take that deal when there are going to be teams willing to pay more than that.

Agreed, but AB's talking about the cap hit in the first year. Not what he's actually being paid.

Kittle got 75M over 5 years with 18M at signing and his cap hit never gets above 6M in the first two years.
S**t our FO just paid a boatload to AA who has had 1 good season. Hyder gonna get thst bag this off season

I said it after he hurt it last year, that injury is a career altering one and NOT easy to come back from period, much less 100%. I don't think he'll ever be the same. I'll say it once again. We should've done this last year, but we need to prepare as if he's never going to play again.

Richburg and Ford should be designated June 1st cuts in the offseason. It's not even a tough decision at this point.

This makes no sense IMO, they combine for a cap hit of $31,947,787, which if they designate as June 1 cuts, that number stays on the books until June 2nd, yes we save a combined $23.65M, but we really don't have a need for that in June, and a Warner deal won't be tough, just do what they did with Kittle, simple signing bonus, take up like $3M in cap room. Better idea is either cut them pre June 1, which saves $5,988,832 for Dee, and $4,637,525 for Richburg, or get them to take pay cuts, I think we could get Dee to take a $8M pay cuts, and Richburg a $5M pay cut. Again by designating them we could end up not having cap room to retain the likes of Sherm, Trent, Juice, K'Waun, Verrett, Hyder, & Jones, all of which should be retained, as we have no one at LT to take over for Trent, not retaining Sherm, Verrett & K'Waun would deplete our CB depth chart, especially at the Slot, with Taylor not back before Week 1, K'Waun is a must re-sign, plus he's easily top 3 in the NFL at the Slot, while Sherm needs to be kept for both his play and his leadership, and Verrett has been really good. As for FB, I'm not sold on the idea of a 2nd yr player like Hokit replacing him, and not other FB in the NFL, IMO, does what Juice does. Hyder needs to be kept, especially with Blair not playing, same with Dee, both can't be counted on anymore. As for Jones, we need a big NT, and he's played very well. So basically, even if you cut Dee & Richburg you save only $10,626,357, but that would go a long ways toward keeping 2-3 of those players, since I believe any multi year deals will have low yr 1 and yr 2 cap hits. If we could get them to take a pay cut, we could save $13M, it'd be great to see Dee take a huge cut, like from his $15.15M base to the vet minimum of $1.075M, that's a $14.075M savings.

I respect your opinion but I'll take the 23 over 10 mil even if we won't get the 23 mil until June 2nd. Ten mil may go a long way with retaining Trent Williams. But it won't go a long way with retaining all seven of those players you listed without backloading a bunch of deals. Even then it's still unlikely we'll be able retain most of them anyway.

We really don't know if Ford and Richburg will take those kinds of paycuts.

I've already outlined how it's possible to keep those 7 guys, and still either cut Dee/Richburg or get them to take pay cuts, and why June 1 guys when the cap room is of no use to them in June?

If they don't want to take pay cuts then cut them, I'd rather have the $10M and be able to keep 2-3 of them, yes we can get Trent at like $5.5M, and Hyder at $3M in 2021 cap hit wise, then lose them because we June 1 guys when we NEED cap room in March not June.

With all due respect those are just projections and those projections don't factor in what kind of competitive offers some of those guys will be mulling over from other teams.

You're kind of making my point. If you get Trent at 5.5M the first year of his deal odds are you severely had to backload his new deal. Hyder may be on his way to a double digit sack season. If he decides to test the market I have no doubt he's going to receive a lot of interest. Pass rush will always be in high demand.

Why did we ever act like Richburg would be back this year? It's well established this is a serious injury that folks rarely come back from. I'm getting a little tired of the bs/mysterious approach to player health.

Correct, and I doubt we take a rookie C who is ready to go from the start.

Therefore there's a very high probability that Richburg is our starting C next year until he gets injured.
I don't think that's a high probability at all.

Then who's our C?

It won't be a rookie.

If it's a FA it's someone past their prime because we're not paying top dollar with all our other FA needs

And if it's someone already on the roster then we're going to have the same OL issues next year as this.

Also I think Ford and Richburg will be open to pay cuts, both have no leverage to be honest, Dee does have $11.65M GTD on April 1, 2021, but like with Jet, they'd either cut him or he'd have to take a pay cut, as for Richburg, his 2021 yr is an option year anyway, so they'll decide whether to pick it up or not, and he also has no leverage, he won't get the kind of money in FA, same for Dee, they'd be wise to take the pay cuts, with incentives to try and earn back that money.

Unless they both threaten to retire...which is a possibility. Then it gets messy.

The idea that it wont or cant be a rookie is utter horse s**t. People need to stop stating opinions like facts.

Ford and Blair once again are done for the year.

It's been a year since this guy last played. Is this guy going to play this season?

No, he was done the second he went down to another major injury.

It's not fact but it is in Kyle's world. His M.O. is a top notch veteran C, two cheap sub par G's and 2 stellar T's and a unit predicated on run blocking far over pass protection. That's him. That's his formula.
