Are we a legit playoff team with Jimmy G?

As far as the draft, we need to go BPA unless it's a position we're set at, like DT or QB.

I bet it felt good to type that. Yes, SET AT QB!
Good time to be a fan!
Jimmy G is a play off worthy QB, but the rest if the team isn't. We will be at some point, but not yet.

if the season began tomorrow. he would not be on our roster. lets not forget that tidbit. i know., everyone is breathlessly predicting he will be signed and it will get done but we need to keep that in mind,. the tag would be terrible. sure he would be on the team but for only one year and then he is gone in my opinion

If the season began tomorrow he would either be signed or tagged already.

tagging him would be nice short term. horrible long term in my opinion

You are way too negative about the franchise tag. haha

Before this season, four players were tagged. Two of them signed long-term deals.

Before the 2016 season, nine players were tagged. Five of those players signed extensions, one of them was untagged and left (Norman), and two of them were tagged again the next season.

Before the 2015 season, six players were tagged. Five of those players signed long-term deals with their team.

Before the 2014 season, six players were tagged. Two of them were not re-signed, three of them signed a long-term deal, and one retired.

I agree but he would probably be signed to a long term deal already if the new season started tomorrow.
We are still a year or 2 away from being a well balanced hard to beat team. They will upgrade the Oline and secondary as will as add a pass rush within the next 2 years of Free agency and draft. Somewhere in there getting a top WR also this team will be tough to beat.
Getting a CB who we can pair with Spoon and an Edge Rusher would do wonders for this team. The offense has looked good. Just imagine if we get a better Center and Guard and a young #1 reciever the offense would just explode.
With our current Cap situation we could be a powerhouse for years to come if the $$ is spent right and continue to hit in the draft.
Very Exciting to be a Niner Fan right now. We are on the cusp.

Agree.

Home: SEA, LAR, ARZ, CHI, DET, DEN, OAK, NYG

Away is much tougher. Seattle is always hard to beat at home, then at the Rams, Packers, Vikes, KC, and Chargers...

Away: SEA, LAR, ARZ, GB, MIN, KC, LAC, TB

I think maybe 5-3 on the road, but even if we go 4-4 on the road and 6-2 at home, that would put us at 10-6 and playoff bound. Very realistic projection IMO.

Let's not forget we will have a last place schedule next year also.

Bucs, Lions, Packers, Bears, Giants, Vikings, Broncos, Raiders, Chargers, Chiefs are all winnable games.

Win 7 of those 10 and half of our division games and you got 10 wins.

These are never quite that predictable. Every year there are a couple of surprise teams that very much outperform last seasons records. Bucs, Packers and Vikings aren't that far away from being very, very competitive. There's a possibility of losing every one of those games.

Yup and then there is a 2nd place schedule year 3 after an easy one and everyone is "how did we go from 10-6 to 9-7 and miss the wild card round????" I thought we were rebuilding

Team is over achieving right now. They have some work to do in the off season.

Jimmy G is a legit Franchise QB. Build around him and manage him correctly and there is no reason why we cant be in the playoffs every year until he retires.

Yeah we really will need to dominate at home to carry our tough road schedule.

What do you think, haven't you been watching him play?
playoff team? yes. legit contender? no, we lack a pass rusher, maybe another solid corner and help on the interior line.

look at teams that are in the playoff hunt over the last few weeks:

cowboys, hawks, lions, falcons.
chargers, bills, titans, ravens

I think you can consider us competitive with these teams with a qb in place. we're also younger, and have more cap space available

I don't see how anyone can say "49ers are not legit contenders after beating Jacksonville" who rested no starters. But with that said, the 49ers need to make the playoffs first, and I believe they will!!!
