Are we a legit playoff team with Jimmy G?

Yes.

I hesitate to say yes and then I look at some facts. We had a 5 game stretch where we lost by 3 points or less (2 OT losses) We could have easily won 3 of those games even without Jimmy G. Since the break we have started at least 10 rookies each game. We are missing most of the starters in the DB, 2 or 3 guys on the OL, our best wideout, a starting LB. The list is long and yet we are winning games. With these guys coming back combined with all the experience the young guys are getting for added depth I see no reason we can't make a run at the playoffs. Another strong draft and a couple good free agents and we are legit. Some of the young guys are going to push the starters who are injured so there will be some real competition in camp. The biggest thing will be confidence going into the season. You can hear it when they talk to the players. Confidence is everything in the NFL where the difference between 1st and last is not nearly as great as college. I believe in the 80's that the NIners won many of their games because they were confident. They knew that no matter who they played or what the situation was they always had a good chance to win.

they are a borderline playoff team, a 9-7, 8-8 type team right now with all the young rookies developing.

they need a pass rusher, some better CB's and some more help in the run game to start to discuss consistent playoff team (which is what legit means to me)

I think so. Especially if you add back the players on our IR list. With the players that have developed this season with extending playing time + the guys stashed on IR + Jimmy G, we have a playoff roster.

Add an interior OL to help in the running game, a WR to help in the redzone, an outside pass rusher to force QBs to step up into Buckner/Solomon, and a CB..... we'd then have a roster capable of going deep into the playoffs.

Yes right now and even more next year. Just hung 44 on the best defense in the NFL, 4 wins in a row, last two vs playoff teams and we're getting better.

Next year we'll have Malcom Smith, Ward, Taart, Garçon, Garnett etc.back. Plus the draft, plus Free Agency, where we have a ton of money and every top free agent will want to come here. Plus Jimmy G and everyone else in Shanahans system for a full year. The team is primed for a Super Bowl run.

JAX said they were impressed because we ran some plays that they haven't seen before. Kyle's offense has been in the league or some years now and he still gets #3 type WR's and TE's wide open.

No DC can prepare for a QB that gets the ball out of his hand in 2 sec. it's the ultimate equalizer. The Jags had one sack and one hit against him, they're the best pass rush in the league. What's scary he's even better when the play breaks down, no panic, just slides away from the rush and makes the play.

Well, if we go 6-10 this year, next year we might go 13-3? Who knows, but this franchise has done that twice already in it's history.

I wouldn't go there, but playoffs are definitely the expectation

All it will take is one loss to bring us back to earth. We're goind to need more talent at WR, better oline, pass rush and i really think defensive backfield. If we do this the other team needs to game plan everywhere, not just shanny's offensive scheme and jimmy g execution. But, we are in a great position. 100 mil cap room and a top 6 pick. Let's not blow it.

No, not right now. Not with this roster. Not a LEGIT playoff team. With Jimmy all year they may win 8-9 games, but probably don't make the playoffs. And if they do make the playoffs, they cant contend with this defense. Still need a legit pass rusher, some corners, an improved O line and a WR.

But with Jimmy they are seriously improved and fun to watch. They are competitive.

If "legit" means more then "one and done ," then I think we are one or two pieces on me OL away. That can easily happen through free agency, if not draft.
