We can't surround Jimmy G with mediocre talent and expect him to win the SB. They need to start surrounding him with talent including at TE and RB if they want to make a real run at the SB.

So what do we do with Garcon, Goodwin and Taylor?? We drafted Kittle and he will be good. Celek has been lights out as well. I see no reason to upgrade those guys.

He is throwing for 350 YPG. What more do you want?
A red zone target/a true number one. He has thrown for a lot of yards, but we have struggled in the end zone.

Definitely need a big-bodied tall, huge catching radius WR and same concept for TE. Kittle is a perfect #2 though.

2. Playmakers on offense (true no.1 Wr will help a lot)
3. CB (as the article suggested)
4. OLBs (too reliant on 56)
5. Interior linemen (we have some talent here - may need to just let it grow)
6. RB (if Hyde leaves - this jumps up)

I see it different

LB, draft Roquan Smith sick of Coyle

OL, sign Linsley and draft a G, sick of Kilgore and Tomlinson, both would be nice depth..

CB, sign Breeland need a number 1 opposite Witherspoon, DJ depth and have Ward and Williams battle for the slot, good CB group

Edge Rusher, draft

WR, sign a number 1..

WR is a huge priority. We can't get in the end-zone. We need a big physical WR.

So is the edge rusher. If we can get rush with just 4 men - that makes playing defense for the rest of the 7 guys a hell of a lot easier.

Don't want that A-hole anywhere near this team

Yes.
Biggest needs in order IMO are..

Interior OLine
Edge rushers
CB
Will LB:(or Mike depending on Fosters position)
WR
RB

Interior OL is likely worst in league, enough said

No true Er rushers besides a 93 year old Dumervil, hopefully pita could do enough to be a situational rusher and continue to improve but obviously 2nd biggest need

Cb- DJ gets picked on like no other. Think Whitherspoon has potential to be a great #2 and possibly a decent #1

LB- Foster is only guy we have for the future besides an
average joe in M. Smith and Coye who's mainly a ST and a good backup.

WR- with Garcon, Goodwin, Day 2 draft pick/FA, Taylor, Bourne

Rb- Hyde Breida Mid round draft pick from this deep class and hopefully Joe will work out but I'm not banking on it. So probably sign hyde to a team friendly deal as he seems sold on the process and he's been a good back and forces too many missed tackles, can't do much when getting crushed behind the line on atleast half your runs.

31 year old coming off a torn Achilles...

Hell No. Let that p.o.s. Rot on some other roster.
lol

I agree...Seattle got his best years. He's done now.

Just to be a di**, I'd trade a high draft pick for him, just to give him to the Browns.

Although I love Gould, I would like to see more TDs than FGs. We need a true #1 WR not a bunch of slot receivers who can get open when there is open field in front of them but when the field shrinks they can't get open worth a lick. What we truly need is a playmaker that has great route running skills and destroy one on one coverage in the redzone. What you're seeing is a very talented QB that's making everyone around him much better then they really are. That's great, but it will only take you so far.

But, does anyone have an actual off season plan...plan A and B?

Who wants to play FO?

ShanaLynch/Mayhew/Peters/Carthon/Paraag:

LEO/ER -
SAM/ER -
LG -
C -
RG -
T -
WR -
TE -
RB -
MIKE/WILL -
CB -

Not sure NC meant to make his list in this order, but first up is FA so my FA "must haves " are OG, C ,OG. We need 3 starters. We have no center 2/3 of the OL who can block, They are NOT good backups, sad to say because....they can't bloc, 3 starter are a must. Now, Thl put up the available a week or two ago , and made the point that we could land a good C, 2 choices, maybe one OG. But it looks like we may need to burn one high pick in draft for one OG, because there really aren't 2 OGs in FA we would want. Believe me i don't want to burn a high pick in draft on OG, but if we cannot get TWO in FA, then one in draft also to start. That means top pick or pretty close.

Once that is decided, unquesitionably ERs...or okay, 1 ER is our top priority. Not sure about FA here but high in draft there are some very good ERs ...or at least one ...and we need a pistol at ER. Having 2 ERs....possibly but i think we have to wait until next yr for a 2nd one. Now, that ER, hopefully our top pick in draft would be after we get our 3 starting OG C OG. With that ER, we suddenly make Buck better, Solomon better, Reuben better, and , yes AA better. Don't laugh. Plug in a starting ER and watch AA catch fire.

After that CB, and no not Richard Sherman. PHX is right, he may very well be done with his Achilles. Besides, like others, i wouldn't want him anyway. But we do need one after the OL and ER are fixed. And i should add that i meant DB, because whether it is Corner, S or both in one, we need both...and i don't care if a guy plays both. Hell we move around anyway on passing downs.

The OT NC suggests may very well be D. Williams on PS. We do have to address this...but later.

Here i like Steve young's comment re: WRs we already have as well as , what? Jimmy is already throwing for 350/game.

However, philosoraptors comment about that RZ/EZ/ WR, in the Dez Bryant, jimmy graham mold, that can just flat out take away a ball in the EZ...yeah, that would be nice. I would really like one of these if in FA. If not we could skate another yr with our current WRs...they have been catching at a blistering pace...and Garçon has yet to catch one ball from jimmy...but in the money zone, yeah if we could FA a Jimmy graham type...sure i'd Go for that. I wouldn't burn a high draft pick here , much preferring starting OG or even more so, ER.

I will ignore RB as Hyde may be it or Kyle has a propensity to get RBs deep in draft...at least by hx.

Lastly, and this could be in FA, LB. yes we are short here. But after FA, if we don't have one, i wouldn't want to burn a high draft pick here for LB In FA if we could snag one, fine. That should have no effect on the OG, C , OG and ERs we get. I just don't want a LB high in draft.

My biggest concern is not getting OG C OG in FA. Looking at available list, i don't see us getting our 3 guys, meaning one high in draft...meaning he is a day one starter. Then ER in draft if we didn't score in FA.

Didnt they play like only a season and half? Anyways, you sure in hell cant blame the offense for not winning the SB can ya? Btw, nobody is winning the SB with Trent Taylor, Goodwin, and Kittle as your pass catchers.

Sorry to come to this party so late, but back to the article in the OP: That is a very sophomoric approach to the need issue - better pass defense.

So, yes, a single shut down corner will take care of the other team's #1 receiver, but what does that do for the rest of the secondary?

A stud ER that can consistently cut down the coverage time by .75 to 1 second will make the entire secondary look much better. Instead of having to cover for 4-5 seconds, as has been the case too often, if that time is reduced to 2.5-3 seconds a lot of good things can happen in the secondary.

Just like a good QB can make the rest of the offense look much better, the same can be said for an ER.

Now, go find some OL help and playmakers on offense.

Brick-by-brick.

I'd say edge rusher is #1 need only because it's harder to address than interior OL but both are easily the top need.

CB follows those two. At LB all we have is Foster. Need help at Sam and Will or Mike depending where we play Rub.

RB can jump up as a need if we don't re-sign Hyde. Honestly this draft class is stacked. May be wise to let him go.

The best QBs will eat blitzes alive. Titans blitzed Jimmy G all game yesterday, did it help them any? The best possible scenario is what the 49ers had in 2011-2012, being able to consistently get pressure with 4 guys.

Consistent pressure from the edge will lead to QBs stepping up in the pocket, leading to more sacks from guys like Buckner and Thomas.

This. Jimmy, in his presser, said he loves when teams blitz because it makes it easier.
We need a got damn edge rusher. One that makes quarterbacks mindful of the depth of their drops, and forces them up into Big daddy Defo's waiting arms.
