If Gruden gets canned he'll go to a team where they will allow him to call the offense. Shanahan has himself a fun new toy in Garoppolo, not a chance he gives up playcalling responsibility now.
Maybe the 49ers can find a spot for soon to be former Raiders OC Todd Downing who has a solid coaching resume, knows QBs, just isn't cut out to be a playcaller.

this team needs defensive coaching talent. If marvin lewis gets fired, did he run the 4-3?

No way. Kyle has turned this team around from last year and even though there was a record loosing streak early on a lot of those games were close. He now has a franchise qb to build around and since he has got the basics of the team right Jimmy G just slipped right in hand into glove and got to work. So why change something that is working? That would be dumb. It is now all fine tuning and augmenting the playing talent we have.

His ability to teach and motivate should be enough but he was the DC for Baltimore when they first won their SB in 00' using a 4-3 I believe...one of the best Defenses in NFL history too.

He's a brilliant playcaller, that Jacksonville game was his finest work yet this season but I wouldn't be opposed to him beefing up the coaching staff a bit with all the soon to be newly unemployed assistants who will be floating around out there.
However the issue of who calls the offense should be put to bed once and for all. Let him call the offense as long as he feels up to it and maybe down the road hand it off to a trusted assistant the way his father did.

How about that report of Kubiak wanting to get back into coaching. Kubiak in an Asst HC/OC position would be mighty nice. Now, I don't know if Gary would take a non play calling role but if he would this would be a homrun hire IMO.
