I think there's a case to be made that we should of been more aggressive in free agency. Started aquiring an offense because we're miles away there. As we saw Shanny's system means jack sh without talent and if you look to Wsh Cousins isn't going to magically fix it either.

This is the first year of a complete new regime, new HC, new GM, total rebuild, 37 new players on the roster and already we saw a far better defensive effort than what we saw from this team last season. They've definitely gotten better in some areas, still have many more to improve in which is going to take time but getting down on these guys after one game is absolutely asinine.
Bustin out the stats i likey. Many want instant winning, guess some got spoiled by harbaughs quick winning.
Harb inherited a stacked roster that had badly miss managed and coached by idiots. Just by simply being a good motivator of men and knowing enough to trust his coordinators he was able to line up a team that could dominate with the simplest of game plans by sheer talent alone. Shanny is coming into the polar opposite, he has a roster full of kids who have been taught next to nothing and a handful of savy vets who are just a hair past physical prime and is trying to establish a system where we will be playing chess for years to come after decades of tis franchise playing checkers. Right now his pieces don't know how to move...and the ones that do don't move as well as they used to, once we have the board stacked with guys who know what to do and can execute it mistake free then we will be in the hunt. The Shanny way takes time, but when you talk about teams that have a system...something we have envied in the Patriots, Steelers, even Seattle as much as I hate to say it...it becomes plug and play because everybody knows what to do and the grow talent from within.

Being aggressive in free agency is for when you need a guy or two....not when you need 10 or 15. Even with the money we have stashed it would dry up way to fast and you would still have holes to fill.

You're always going to be 10 guys away if you ignore free agency. You're not hitting 7 guys in 1 draft. We weren't 1 guy away when we signed Clements, Smith. Only 1 worked but that's life. If you have the $ start aquiring players.

That is just the point...you are never going to fix a bad roster in one year period...it cant be done. That people think otherwise absolutely blows my mind. This isn't the NBA you cant just buy a couple of guys and be a contender....

Who said anything about it being fixed this year? You start building it now so it doesn't continue to suck in years 2-3. It's not going from 32nd to 1st in a year next year either.

Free agents signed this year would be in year 2 or 3 of their likely 4 year deal by the time we are good enough for them to matter and would only serve to do what? Win us one or two more games, decrease our draft position and possibly result in dead money we then cant spend once the general talent pool is ready to compete? What good does that do? Other than making for some sexy news where you "win the offseason" what does it accomplish long term for the franchise? Sure the product looks a little better this year, but at what cost? Worse draft spots, potential dead money against the cap, aging vets holding kids down two years from now. Unless you can get your hands on a sure fire hot as hell number one guy coming off his first deal and will be here for 7-8 years why do you do it? and lets face it guys like that either don't make the market because their team locks them up or they don't come a place like here where they know they aren't going to sniff the play offs for two years minimum.

Why is this so hard to understand??
You can't just buy your way into being a good team. I see no problem with a patient approach, building through the draft and then filling in key areas in FA once the team is a little better.

I mean I get why it is making people itch after years of Baalke who never spent and was clearly content to be a slum lord it on the surface looks like more of the same. It is hard to look past that...I totally get it, but if you listen to what Lynch is saying and you believe the man, he clearly knows there is a time to reach for the check book and a time to leave it on the table and we aint at that reaching phase yet.

Oh no Justin Smith signed in 2008 but we did
Oh no Justin Smith signed in 2008 but we didn't get good until 2011. that's year 3 of his deal what are we going to to? You can't find players like Patrick Willis (I know he was there before Justin just 11th is 11th), Anthony Davis at 11 or Iupati at 17th.
It's stupid to think you can't sign free agents until you're on the cusp. What's your philosophy there? We wouldn't want the next coach and GM to have cap problems.

Congrats....one guy who deserves to be in the hall of fame as an exception, that is the definition of correlation not equaling causality. For the record if you read, I also said there are exceptions if you can hit on that rare guy who is young enough and talented enough to have the longevity to be here when it gets better, but that doesn't mean you go out every year and buy up anything and everything to see what sticks. We signed free agents...we signed Garcon, we signed Hoyer, we signed Juice, we signed Goodwin, we signed Dumervil, we signed Malcom Smith, we signed Earl Mitchell. That is a lot of new bodies that we paid the right dollar for to get the thing started and teach the incoming kids the new system and help the younger talent that was already here get their game to a professional level after Chip and the Mustache taught them nothing for two years. Just because we didn't hit on the next Justin Smith doesn't mean that could happen next year or the year after...as long as he is the right talent level with the right amount of career left to actually matter when we get the thing going again.

I like how people think not having 100 mil in cap space equals buying your way to being competitive. No, it's just not having a dirt poor roster.
If we don't land Cousins and have to develop a rookie Shanny is already done. He's not building it up in time to save himself. With Cousins he can salvage it but if we brought in Jeffrey, drafted Hunt, then this year you get a line and add Cousins we'd be competitive next year. As of now we need serious line work, a rb, wr, qb. The works.

Outside of Juice I don't see a single long term guy. Maybe Garçon can last 3. These were place holder signs to transition in the new schemes.
The reason to start building right away is because chemistry, learning to win, last pieces takes time. You don't ever want to throw away seasons. You don't get them back.

actually I think if Kyle knew he wanted cj .lynch could have built in the trenches .thomas may turn out to be a hall of famer.but when you have to many needs in offense it is no way I would have stay at 2 or 3 ...it was to much depth for a de..lynch and his questionable signing is a head scratcher..
