They got zero pressure in Q3 and 4. You can't expect the defense to save a young team. We knew they had not designated world-beater pass-rusher. That was known. What wasn't was that this offense could only score 3 points because of poor line play.

0 sacks

Pressure isn't just about sacks.

OK how many "pressures did they have? I saw cam sitting back there all day, and when he had to run he did because we had no contain

I'm still trying to figure out how Hyde had so many yards on the ground. Were all his runs off tackle? LOL

M'Kay

You disagree?

I do.

They largely played that front 4 on their own with very little blitzing. They didn't put a lot of pressure on Cam, but I also think they were keeping contain, not over pursuing and forcing Cam to throw into 7 man Pass D.

But did he die? ~ Chan
Apparently we have a long way to go lol
I was mildly pleased with the offense only because they finally look like they know what they are trying to do. They have a proper NFL offensive scheme. Beyond that, it looked pretty much like we thought it would. The best skill players we have (Garcon, Hyde, Hoyer) were the only ones doing anything out there. No NFL offensive scheme can make average to below average players look good for any length of time. I'm optimistic that the offense from a gameplan point of view is going to be fine.

Rueben Foster has Willis/Keuchly type of potential in if he can just stay healthy. Anyone thinking they were getting Aaron Donald 2.0 got a rude awakening as Thomas, though good against the run, was largely invisible. It's early so there's time, but I don't think he's the type of player many (on this board) were thinking he was going to be. It doesn't mean he's a bust, far from it.

Pure will. However we both know Hyde won't survive a whole season taking all those hits behind the LOS.

Truth!

On, Thomas, Thats fair.

Thats what I was trying to say weeks ago.

Some guys when they step on the field just play at a different level and you just know they are going to be stars.

Thats Reuben.

Solomon? Not giving up by a long shot, but he's a work in progress and I'm not NEARLY as certain he'll get there.

PFF said they had only 8 pressures on the day so it is definitely disappointing. We really need to see more from Armstead, Buckner, and Dumervil at this point... also more from Thomas would be nice but it was only his first game and it may take time for him to develop.

It was only the first game though and I think Buckner said he was disappointed in the passrush and I'm sure Saleh will be pissed too so they will focus on it more this week and tryout new things... We'll have to wait and see if they improve.

Thats fair, but should also be noted that Saleh did nothing to help them in terms of pressure and I think that was by design...IE "slow" rush, stay in their lanes, and keep players in coverage.

To be honest, I'd expect the same in Seattle.

Should also be noted that for the most part IT WORKED. Both TDs were on short fields after TOs and a lot of the meager yards that Carolina gained were in the second half when fatigue started to play a part from being on the field so long.

Cam did miss some open guys, but it ain't like Cam set them on fire when they didn't pressure him.

0 sacks

Statistics are for losers.

If all you focus on is sacks your NEVER going to be happy.
Great way to summarize the game. Patience is the word of the hour😉

No doubt, everyone is going to watch their tape and cringe BUT, hopefully learn a ton from it.

Now let's see if they've learned in time to face a similar front 7 challenge and this time, with a far more accurate QB but far lesser OL.

Agree with Marvin that the O was more of a problem than the D. As for your point, I'm sure there will be some minimal improvement - but not enough to knock out solid playoff bound teams. As Marvin said, I'd be happy with constant gradual improvement even if it's more losses than wins.

FIFY
I'm expecting at least 11 more games that look similar to this one. This is not a good team and bad teams look really bad at stretches in games. The offense look fined to me. All the staple shanny stuff was there (zone run, bootleg RO, deep crossers, etc...), it just takes time to get it ironed out. Anyone expecting a real offense to click right at the rip hasn't been paying attention to pro football for the last couple of decades.

However...this game to me will always be the unveiling of Foster. He was beyond the Xs and Os good and I agree if the health stands up will be a star.
