Don Jones has $750K guaranteed in his 2yr deal, and even with a June 1 cut we only save like $365K, I'd rather have a proven STer on the team than a rookie.
Brock Coyle got a $400K signing bonus, and he would be the backup MIKE LBer.
Vance has $7.7M GTD left on his deal, we'd lose money if cut, we could gain if we trade him.
Celek we gain very little, like $950K ish if cut.

If people are wondering what cap hits would be, go here,
http://www.ninersnation.com/pages/49ers-salary-cap-2017, it's sortable as well.

Mods, maybe we can combine this thread with the other 53?

AB81, I agree with you on cap implications. I've been on board with trying to trade Reid+Brooks for what ever we can get for them, along with Celek and Bell if we can. Reid and Brooks would net us a ton more cap space, and trading Bell and Celek wouldn't net us much at all, but their cap hits would be over this season though, and we wouldn't have to deal with any numbers from them going forward.

Reid's contract is guaranteed so we'd have to trade him. That said, he'll make the team b/c we have nobody behind Tartt/Ward. Lorenzo Jerome has a real chance to make this team as a result.

I think Don Jones and Jerome can back up Ward and Tartt. Reid is an expensive 1 year guy who most likely won't be brought back. I'd like to see if Tartt can be the SS, or if we need to add that to our FA/draft next year.

I agree as far as giving Tartt extensive time to see if he can actually play.

I think it's a possibility 5 players make the 53 between the FB/OW and TE position.
Kyle Juszczyk
George Kittle
Vance McDonald
Logan Paulsen
Cole Hikutini
What do you guys think?
The 49ers gave Hitukini a 10K signing bonus and a paragraph 5 100,000 dollars guaranteed. Hikutini makes the team, otherwise New Orleans will snatch him off the PS. I could envision McDonald or Celek being cut, or both.

* Im tempted to go with 3 RB's and have Breida on the PS to free up a spot
* Would love to see Lynch step up, we shall see, Need a spot for Taumoepenu as well
* Need to find a spot for Colbert too, maybe Reaser's spot
* I'd like to carry one more WR, cant find a spot right now, NFL needs to make roster 55 players! I edited this thing about 30 times

Here's to hoping we can trade Celek and Bell for anything, as soon as possible. I like the idea of Hikutini making the 53 man, and I wouldn't want to risk losing him for nothing. Perhaps if he's not fully healthy, we could put him on IR, and stash him for a year, then he can sit and heal, and learn. Then next year Paulsen will be gone, and Hikutini can take over his spot.

Not sure Brieida will beat out Bibbs...Kapri's a good runner, receiver and KR. I don't see Tank making the team. Don't see more than 8 DL. Both Barnes & Fusco will be on the roster...good experience usually pays off. Still very early to predict the final roster...some that many think are locks may not be, given how fluid the roster's been and likely will continue to be to some extent.

Hate to mention it, but the composition of the final 53 will be influenced by injuries that occur during TC and PS games. And it's not totally inconceivable that there are unforeseen cuts that throw the depth chart awry. For instance, I just have the hunch that if Witherspoon turns out to be a total uncooperative flake that nobody can work with, the Niners will cut their losses and cast him loose.
