There's only 53 (50 after K, P, & LS) so:

Offense (3 QB, 4 RB, 1 FB):

-5 WR or 6?
-3 TE or 4?
-8 OL or 9?

Defense:

-8 DL or 9?
-6 LB or 7?
-9 DB or 10 (6 CBs, 4 S)

Going to be some good competition in training camp for a spot on the 53!

Exactly... going to be some tough decision to make esp. on defense.

When in doubt, go heavier on your lines...both of them.

I agree as guys get beat up in the trenches over the course of the season. That's why I could easily see them going with 9 OL and at least 8 DL.

Same here...so far, I have:

QB: 3 but tempting to do 2.
RB: 4 - pass catching and speed required.
OW/TE: 4 - some for run blocking, some for pass catching and some for both (offensive weapons).
WR: 5 - All 4 RB's & 4 TE's will be integral in the WCO passing game meaning we can go 5 WR's
OL: 9 - Kyle kept 9 last year and our injury history sucks. More chances for injuries in an outside zone scheme too.

DL: 10 - includes all LB/DE edge rushers
LB: 6 - includes base down LB's and depth
CB/S: 9

So how many yards from Vance does it take to be a successful season. Also, y'all think Lynchahan are lying that they had a trade for Vance but decided to pass cause the compensation wasn't worth it?

I don't think accusing the coach and gm of lying is very positive.

Ive been on record saying that theyre not lying and Vance wouldve been traded during the draft if they hated him/his contract so bad.

It's common knowledge to other teams if a player is on the trade block. It just comes down to getting compensated for him. They were prob only offered a 7th round pick and said no.

You still make my point that if they wanted him gone along with his salary we would of took that 7th and call it a day.

not when he has a cap hit of $4.2m and a dead cap hit of $7.7m

we have no idea what team or teams were interested or would take on his full contract? Remember Kap wasn't traded to Denver because Trent refused to pay $4m of his contract. lol

Vance has not proven to be worth the contract he has. Trading him was going to be tough.

in 2018 the team can get out of his deal by releasing him after June 1st and only taking a $1.4m cap hit.
Thx for the explanation. Well im definitely glad to have him on board this year and kinda see what we have in him once and for all. Can always trade next year after a solid season.
Kevin Jones has some odd ones:

http://www.knbr.com/2017/06/26/a-way-too-early-49ers-53-man-roster-projection/

6 WR's and Victor Boulden Jr. & B.J. Johnson III over Aldrick Robinson? Zane Beadles was just as bad as Joshua Garnett but Josh has upside so we'll see there. D.J. Jones is a true 2 gap plugger. Why wound one keep Celek over McDonald? Celek has zero big play ability and can't block at all and is just as oft injured. Only 8 OL with our injury history and John Theus? Coyle and James are interesting picks but understandable.

Good list there, only thing I would possibly change is Hightower over Bibbs.

Yeah he lost me on a few. I would be very surprised if Boulden or Johnson made it over Robinson let alone both of them making the team. I would be SHOCKED! That means we would be keeping 3 rookie WR's, two of them undrafted FA's. Not happening. I think Burbidge will be tough to cut. He's a solid WR and a good ST's player.

But if I'm not mistaken... any player that get plucked by another team that was being sent to the practice squad, must be on the new teams 53 man roster. Hard to imagine a team taking a UDFA that spent the whole training camp and preseason and DIDN'T make the final 53.
Well unless he blew it up in the preseason games. My belief is that the 49ers TE position will have Kittle, Paulson, Hikutini

Correct... and because everyone cuts from 90 down to 53 all at once, I think there is less worry about losing players you tag for your PS since teams will be extra preoccupied with the cuts and signing veterans instead to their 53.

Yeah, that's a tough positron group to nail down at this stage.

Scheme/coaching...coaching/scheme...an OL is so dependent on good a scheme that fits the players I really believe Shanahan may turn this OL around quickly...even if he has to make major changes to personnel.
