Do you offer any good posts around here besides trying to derail positivity and optimism... How sad.

What does Jim have to do with Vance sucking?

This is a thread about who's going to make the roster. We have a lot of unproven talent. How much optimism do you want?

Well hopefully the new tight end they drafted is better than Vance and we can move on. Is that better?

Socold is now the official killer of optimism

I don't think accusing the coach and gm of lying is very positive.

vance will make the team, mostly because of his dumb contract but he's also one of the top 3 TEs on this team. Hopefully that Rook takes his starting spot.

yeah the team is paying 3x as much for Vance over Celek with basically the same production.
There's only 53 (50 after K, P, & LS) so:

Offense (3 QB, 4 RB, 1 FB):

-5 WR or 6?
-3 TE or 4?
-8 OL or 9?

Defense:

-8 DL or 9?
-6 LB or 7?
-9 DB or 10 (6 CBs, 4 S)

Going to be some good competition in training camp for a spot on the 53!

I don't have a degree in rocket math but I'm pretty sure all the bold numbers add up to 53. So it'd be kinda silly not to say those.

It would be great if it were just that easy and you didn't have to count the K, P, & LS (I wish they'd push the limit to 56 to account for those three needed positions). However, you add those three to the above in bold and you get 56 so some position group is not going to get the number in bold. I just edited the above to include K, P, & LS.

You started talking about drop rates. I just said he's bad. 4 drops with 24 catches is horrible. Just because Celek had one more drop doesn't mean he's worse than Vance at catching. 58% is better than 53% lol

Vance was supposed to be a #1 stud TE and we got an avg guy.

Drop rates are calculated by dividing drops by catchable passes, not targets.

For 2016:

McDonald - 3 / 27 = 11.1%
Celek - 5 / 34 = 14.7%
Paulson - 1 / 4 = 25%
Bell - 2 / 6 = 33%

Although drops are a factor, catch percentage is usually more on the QB than the receiver, because there are a lot more uncatchable passes than drops in a season. If you look teams like the Bills and Browns, who have inaccurate QBs - even receivers with great drop rates have some of the worst catch percentages in the league.

You can butter up the stats any way you want. Vance's career numbers are about the same as an undrafted backup TE. That's not good. Wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't on the team much longer. That's my point.

Hey, I'm not buttering up the stats, I'm just explaining the math. They all have way too many drops.

McDonald will stick around this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone after next if he doesn't perform.

Ive been on record saying that theyre not lying and Vance wouldve been traded during the draft if they hated him/his contract so bad.

Hard to imagine, but we could see a roster without, Hyde, Bowman, or Lynch.....or without all three! Its a new dawn in Ninerland.

no way in hell bowman gets cut. the other two, easily.

Your right, no one would cut an aging veteran, who has been injured and unable to complete his last two season....thats plain crazy!

I hope Bo is healthy, and can go, I hope he has returned to even 80% of his former self, but if he hasn't, this regime owes him nothing, they need to win.

...and McDonald...literally, our only play maker last year.

It probably won't happen but those guys are on notice for sure.

Yeah, and for no particular reason, I like Vance, but if he can't learn to catch....

It's common knowledge to other teams if a player is on the trade block. It just comes down to getting compensated for him. They were prob only offered a 7th round pick and said no.

Exactly... going to be some tough decision to make esp. on defense.

When in doubt, go heavier on your lines...both of them.
