Earl Mitchell was brought in and they've been linked to Logan, Poe and Peko. I think this is one spot they want to focus on.

I hope we can get Peko. Maybe Poe on a 1 year prove it deal.
Would Thomas be our LEO or 4-T? And what about Allen?

And if we do get Cousins and swap 1sts, how about Hassan Reddick as our Mike or LEO?

Problem with Mitchell is that he has been injury prone. I like him as a leader, but count on him has a 3-down, 15 game defender? Not really.

That's why they're looking at other guys too. I think they'll feature a heavy rotation at DT.

I wonder if Hankins is an option given he worked with Zgoniga last year
Mitchell is not going to be a 1-tech NT. And if coaching staff thinks he is a fit there, then man oh man, its going to be the same old s**t next year where we're getting bullied and run over by opposing RBs on a weekly basis. His PFF run grade has been awful.

Logan, Poe, or Peko is basically a need at this point. I think drafting a guy for this spot is kind of a mistake. Linemen take a while to develop properly.
I'd take DE/OLB Conner Barwin and FS Duron Harmon. and that's it for FA on defensive side of ball. Draft for other defensive needs left over.

This, and either Poe or Peko.

Harmon re-signed with the Pats. Barwin,Hightower/Brown,Hankins/Logan/Peko/Poe. Tempted by Morris Claiborne.

I think Brooks/Harold can get it done at SAM doe along with a rookie...I'm targeting TJ Watt in the second(trade up if you have to) who can play SAm in base downs and slide to Leo on pass downs.

With a first pick I'm going with Thomas right now. Leo in base downs, slides to strongside DE on pass downs.

Also why are we not talking about Blair as the base Leo(not on pass downs) ? I think he would fare well there.
I'd like to see another stout DT/NT signed...mainly because I don't think Saleh can rely on Dial to be the kind of pillar he needs in his front line. There are some guys in the draft worth getting...such as Allen (although he's not 100% healthy), Brantley (if he can find that next gear), Jaleel Johnson, Adams (he might be best suited for us), Jarron Jones. That said, I see Poe (27), Hankins (25) or Logan (27)...all are young enough to get 5-yr contracts and be effective for that period. I still think they draft a DL even if they add another FA.

Allen is not going to be a good NT fit for us. He's more suited to be an attacking 3-technique. And we're probably going to make Buckner do that anyway.

I agree with your FA signing recommendations though.

Our old team just sucked all around. Period. If FO did the opposite by acquiring more on defense instead, we'd probably all be worried about the offense not getting enough attention...

Even though Mitchell seems like a backup to a lot of posters in here, he's still better or just as good than the guys who started previously. It's a decent start. The draft will be telling and it appears that we're be bringing in a couple of more free agents for Saleh / defense.

I'm fine with Shanny & Lynch getting the offense going first, I hope they're good / gel quick in the regular season, and just in case the defense kinda sucks, the offense can keep them off the field and rested...

People forget in 2011 Smith was looking he was gonna be a bust... Miller was unknown. Snyder at RG was unknown,Goodwin was looked as a solid vet C. Outside Crabtree no proven WRs. On D McDonald wasn't projected to make the strides he did. Sopo was a question at NT, Bowman was an unknown. Rogers was seen as a solid vet CB,Tarell brown ended up emerging and made strides. Parts haralson started and was a question.

Just saying. Don't take the guilty till proven innocent approach
