Saleh is a decided matter for this yr, so quit calling for his exit. Not happening. Now, do we need a multi stop, multi former team DC? Not really. We want a guy who has talent, is not a retread, and can assume DC like Wade Phillips did. Those guys don't just grow on trees. Good ones are usually employed and bad ones may just have been fired for producing a lousy D product. This is not easy, but I think kyle really wasn't looking at the start of the yr, content with Saleh. However, he is not as rapid a learner as I had hoped, is a good guy, is a very good LB coach, but seems DC is a bridge too far. In time he may be just fine. We don't have that kind of time. Kyle wanted a guy who would run the D that kyle wants. Saleh fit the bill. But 1/4 into the season and there were two plays back to back today where we missed 6 tackles (GRABS) on a punt return, and then next play a RB runs thru 6 sloppy , schiddy , arm Tackles(aka Grabs). 12 missed tackles in two plays. Be interesting to see if PFF rates it that way. We easily could have had another 43 missed tackles this one game...but who's counting.
Hard to be a DC when your team can't tackle. GRABS, or pulldowns, or arms folded "BUMPS" into a RB, don't count as tackles and we used all 3 today to lesser or greater extent. If saleh did nothing other than spend all week on tackling , it would be fine by me. But this crew of sluggos...don't do tackling. Man is this ever a sad effort.
As an aside, I watched the RAIDS beat the Browns in OT, and #95 on CLEVE caught my eye. Man could he ever tackle...ahhh...Garrett....Myles Garrett. Boy we should have traded up to get him...he is awesome. But a better bet yet would have been #52 on CHI, Khalil. Everyone around that guy tackles, and he is the poster boy for good hard tackles. Really shoulda blown a wad of cash and player capital on him. Our D would look good despite Saleh and no one would dare miss a tackle around #52.
If it were a few players, that's one thing. But when the team is doing that, do you believe we have 10 + bad tacklers on the team?

I get a sense Saleh lacks the disciplinary side at DC. The tight ass type personality. It's in every good DC. His defense lacks focus

His job is to fix this s**t, and he obviously lacks whatever it takes to do that. He needs to go after this season...this is inexcusable. I heard John Lynch talking about it this week, and you can tell it bothers him alot--I don't think he survives if he can't get these guys to do what defensive do: tackle somebody.

probably be a brilliant DC in flag football...
Saleh is dealing with a very, very, very young defense that can only improve over time. I will agree that our biggest problems are on the defensive side of the ball. Other than Sherman, there is no experience to calm these kids down. I believe this unit will improve over the course of the season. But it is also clear that last year's late season improvement was a mirage. We are still a player or three away from having a truly elite unit.
I think last year's finish may have fooled some of the brain trust into believing this unit was better than they've shown over the first four games.

As a flag football DC his CB's still wouldn't turn their heads and look for the ball...

I hate that they're taught not to turn back. It's maddening.

I hope Lynch is pissed watching this D. The honeymoon is done and now it's time for him to start making changes. Obviously not during the season but the defense isn't close to even being a playoff defense and Saleh won't make it happen.
I'm hopeful since Saleh wasn't his first choice and it's clear he's not up to snuff. I'm hopeful they'll make the change.

I just don't get why we have 4 DTs along the defensive line and no speed rushers, at all.
