It is impressive, but there's also a flip side. It is harder for other organizations to build a team that can compensate for not having the GOAT coach and QB as the foundation of their success.

We've seen teams go on runs in the salary cap era that are longer/more sustained than in previous times (not counting the wooden rings and leather helmet days). For example, the Pats' streak of 8 straight championship game appearances and the Chiefs' 7.

NFL nowadays you have to hit on your franchise QB then every thing else falls into place.

Or you have to hit on draft picks up and down your roster and create a different value advantage (so to speak). At least can buy you a shorter term window. Long term success is pretty much always going to require having a unicorn at the QB position and great coaching.

The margin for error is smaller when resources are limited.
seems like former 49ers always rave about Shanny as a head coach

This is weird and unnecessary. You can make your takes without bizarre analogies like that.

Ok but 9IQ, DrL, and Jose, says he's not a good HC. Who are you going to believe??

Time to get rid of the few minority trolls, too many good posters have stopped posting bc of these trolls

They get so much attention here that they will continue with their shtick. I'm sure they've tried on Twitter or Reddit, but it just doesn't stick so they come back here.

David isn't gonna get mad bc of few of them are gone. And either way, they will just make new accounts anyways.

Interesting when some players say something about a coach you guys take it like it's the holy grail. Yet when other players say something you don't like eg Charvarius Ward saying it was dumb the Niners abandoned the run in SB 54, you guys go "well he doesn't know what he's talking about!".

Confirmation bias, I guess…

It's such a dumb example as well. And it's hard to tell if he's that dumb with his football takes or just trolling as a grown as man? Maybe it's a mix of both.

Maybe he forgot that Ward signed with us?

You get rid of them by ignoring them. You state they are trolls....so why even respond?

I've generally watched these select bunch when it comes to Shanahan's tenure here and how they can't wait for its end....and the reasonings are so beyond ridiculous, that I have little to no interest in participating:

'We could hire a good young coach like Philip Rivers.'

'Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino, it's all about championships.'

'We we're 12-5...but we should blow it up and start again.'

'You love finishing in 2nd place.'

I can tell you these comments are from a seemingly young bunch who never saw any 49er Super Bowl win, and most weren't even alive in Jan. 1995. I group them with swifties....their opinions are rather irrelevant. Trolling or idiocy, I don't care...they generally don't deserve attention.

Kyle Shanahan is a top 5 type HC in the NFL. He has flaws...they all do. Some day, his run will end, and even if his time doesn't bring a SB, while I would be disappointed, I'll still be thankful because this franchise was on the edge of a cliff that leads to irrevancy and snicker....and his presence prevented that. I'll enjoy his run, because SF has a real legit shot with him at the controls. It would be nice if a little luck broke his way.

That's a great post Ricky, couldn't agree more. We've got a great coach, and even if I didn't believe that, I can't see anyone out there worth replacing him with.

For every Mike McDonald, there are guys like Matt Nagy, Aaron Glenn and Brian Daboll.
Also, let's see how McDonald does without Kubiak

Totally agree. If you have the best GM/HC/QB combo in the NFL, you'll have an advantage over the other 31 teams. If you also hit on a draft or two on defense, then you'll be dominant for an extended period of time. It's difficult for the other teams to catch up solely using the draft, so they would have to spend big in free agency to close the gap. If you limit how much they can spend, the top team will remain there for a long time (until another team hits on their QB and their draft).

If there was a salary cap in 94, we probably wouldn't have won the SB and the Cowboys probably would've won 3 straight. Not having a salary cap allows the teams behind the top dawg to close the gap.
