49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

Well, I don't know if I qualify as a "hater" (why? I just want the team to win and won't take excuses in the meantime), but I was a critic and here I am.

I am delighted we're finally winning and playing professional football, as opposed to "moral victories" and football that would be considered sloppy at Div 1-AA level. I'm still not 100% happy that we are not getting enough TDs for our yardage and at the continuing rash of penalties, but I'm certainly happier than I was a month ago. I will be even happier if we continue on this path AND sort out the penalties and low redzone efficiency.

Do 4 victories out of 5 make me a Shanahan "believer"? No, just as I was never a "hater". Managers are judged by results, and his are improving. Good, but can do better. If we go back to "moral victories" I will be back to being critical.

The one subject I will definitely eat crow on is Jimmy Garoppolo (whom my 3 y.o niece keeps calling "Gruffalo" to widespread merriment). I admit that I feared the second coming of Cassel, but he's certainly looking the part up to this point.

Better than all but one of the Harbaugh years.

To be fair Jimmy G is the only real Franchise QB compared to all of those teams.

He's only started 3 games though. Plus, the talent difference is crazy. We had a top 5 o-line with Harbaugh. Crabtree, Davis, Gore, Moss, Walker, Boldin, Hunter...Shanahan has a bottom 5 o-line and very few pieces to work with. He is running a real offense and getting the most out of the team
what I like best about Kyle is the team seems to enjoy playing together and for him. I already knew he could put up offensive stats so I'm not worried about that...he just needs players. But I was worried if he could improve team chemistry. Look forward to the future.

Also note that this year's 17th ranked offense is heavily imbalanced with a low ranking during the Hoyer/CJ games. Think if Jimmy G started the year, we would be in the top 10.

Now we just need to match that ranking in TDs also.

31st in 3rd down % at 30%.

lol offensive genius

We have a s**t ton of penalties, lots of stupid ones also. Don't even get me started on that kick return gaffe where the two return men collided.

Penalties...oh god we are 32nd leading the league in total flags thrown by 2 over Seattle. In terms of pentalties counting against us we're 32nd and lead the league by 7.

That's all on the coaches.

simple. wrong.

It's amazing what a QB can do to a team that apparently has a 'crappy offense'. it's almost as if the lack of a decent QB was the reason, not the HC or play-calling. Lol. It's amazing how fans couldn't see the difference in situations between Shanny and McVay in that Rams game. And we scored almost 40 points even still. It's like pessimistic fans are incapable of 0 foresight and perspective.

it's amazing to think that when Shanahan has a good QB, like in Atlanta, his offense thrives.

but when he doesn't have a competent QB, his offense is trash.

lol, some fans.

He's an X's and O's rat and a football lifer. I think players recognize that. I also think that his age helps in relating to everyone.

Now in the good old days....we only had 3 teams finish out of the top 10 and 1 finish at 10. Other than that it's was always a top 10 or better unit.

Haha....our worst offense yardage rank wise during our dynasty run was the 1981 championship team.

I just wanted to add that our defensive rank during that time span was at least (minimum) 8th in defense (if you take away 1982 and 1993 stat years). Our super bowl years, the defense was ranked 2, 2, 2, 1, 6 - respectively. We barely lost our 6th with a 2nd ranked defense under Harbaugh. As much as I love offense and Kyle's system and our brand spankin' new Franchise QB in JImmy GQ, super bowls are won by defense.

These. Plus lynch badly misses playing you can see it. Kyle and him are building great team chemistry, it's going to be special here soon you can just feel it

It's really important for GM and HC to talk. I know that Walsh leaned on McVay a ton during his years here and they were always on the same page. I can see that developing with Kyle and John. I think it was really important that Kyle chose John and Jed allowed this to happen. Biggest decision Jed made was to let Kyle chose his GM. That got us Grap from Bellicheat. I look forward to the 2018 draft and free agency period. I think they can continue to be successful as long as they stay on the same page together.

there are still major concerns with this team and just because jimmy has arrived and has made alot of things better., does not mean we are over some hump. the legit concerns some have are still there..i understand it makes you feel good and giddy and you must have alot of time on your hands to rehash posts which at the time were legit concerns fans had.
This guy knows how to scheme and play call. Dudes were running around wide open all game, in particular that final drive.
