Yeah I don't know what's going through his head on that honestly.
To be fair you can't simply take your pick of FA/draft...you have to deal with other teams wanting theirs too.
Obviously when Kyle wants an OLman he goes after them. I know when we drafted McGlinchey in 2018 I was distraught, though in part because I didn't see a need with Staley and Trent Brown. Obviously Kyle didn't think Brown was the right fit and figured McGlinchey was going to be our RT of the future and maybe even replacement for Joe in time. That didn't quite work out like that but McGlinchey is still a solid starter in the NFL...just not for us.
We made the huge move for Trent Williams and paid him accordingly. Who knows where we would be if Weston Richburg never hurt his knee. I feel strongly had he not gotten hurt we may win that 2019 SB.
Alex Mack - quick retirement. Aaron Banks taken in the 2nd round(I know I wasn't a big fan of the pick but I think they took him more cuz of Lance being drafted)
I do think Kyle doesn't give the interior guys enough love. Puni looked like a great pick and I still think he'll bounce back and is playing hurt. I just don't get the Brendel love...hate to say it but hopefully that injury will be for the best with Hennessy playing well for us.
But yes, I think we need to make an effort to bring in talent at OL and build those guys up like we try to with the later round picks and hope we find ourselves with an elite OL again. Control the trenches and good things will happen.
