Could've gone hard after Stafford, but was busy on vacation while McVay was making moves.
Even Rodgers in his prime could've been an option if the Niners were serious enough.

If we're going to argue the missing piece behind those Super Bowl losses was Kyle not having a HOF quarterback at his disposal, the counter is that he chose not to. I'm sure trading all those picks for Trey Lance could have landed any one of those guys. Actually less. Brady wanted to come here for free.

You all have got to stop spreading complete BS just to try and make Kyle look bad.

The Brady move is complete hindsight. The 49ers weren't the only ones who didn't bring in Brady. He already talked about the Raiders sticking with Derek Carr over him and unlike the 49ers the Raiders weren't coming into that offseason after a SB trip. Brady was coming off his worst season as a pro, looked like he was pretty much done and going to turn 43 that next season.

The whole Stafford thing is complete BS though. Acting like Shanahan was just chilling on vacation and missed the chance to get Stafford is straight up nonsense. Lions new GM came from the Rams. He wanted Goff and they were never going to have a serious discussion with the 49ers. Stafford also had a relationship with McVay. Stafford wanted to go to the Rams, Lions wanted Goff. Shanahan could've flown to the Lions HQ and still not gotten that deal done.

As for Rodgers...Shanahan literally got LaFleur all pissed off cuz he tried to trade for Rodgers.

You're knocking him for not making 2 moves he tried to make and the other side squashed it. Your reasons for hating Kyle are literally made up.

You'll keep spinning your way out of blaming Kyle for anything. He picked Jimmy over Brady. In what universe does Jimmy Garoppolo an upgrade over Tom Brady ? Especially when the guy is requesting to play for your team on a cap friendly contract ?

as for Stafford:

https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2021/7/7/22566773/kyle-shanahan-recalls-the-weekend-he-tried-to-trade-for-matthew-stafford

"I was trying to get involved in it. Someone who had knowledge on the situation—I remember us talking to (Stafford's agent Tom) Condon, everyone just to find out when it was happening. I remember Saturday, I was so stressed out, and finally we talked to someone—it was like seven at night—and they're like, 'No, nothing's happening. At the earliest, til tomorrow, so you can finish your night.'

"So I'm like, 'Alright, I'm done.' Put down my phone. Talk to (his wife) Mandy. I'm like, 'Alright, let's go out to dinner. Let's have some drinks.' A half-an-hour later, my buddy calls me, he's like, 'I'm just telling you, if you want Stafford, you need to get a hold of him right now.'

"I'm like, 'What do you mean? No, we just talked to people. I can sleep on this. We'll talk to him tomorrow.'

"'I'm just telling you, you need to talk to him right now.' And I knew it was all over."

Reports are that the 49ers never made an official offer to the Detroit Lions, but it sounds like Shanahan would have had he not taken the night off a little too early.

and while you're at it, you can remind all of us how it's not Shanahan's fault for not scouting Mahomes because 9 other teams passed over him in the draft…

OVER AND OVER.. My personal opinion on Shanny not wanting Brady or Staffy is because he wants to be able to POINT the finger on Grappy in case he can't win the Super Bowl.

Don't get me wrong, Shan Choker wants to win a Super Bowl, but again, just (IMO) he needs to be the one who gets 75% of the credit..

He doesn't want to be listed along side Tony and Andy for winning the Super Bowl because of the QB.

You're being beyond disingenuous.

They didn't pick Jimmy over Brady. They picked Jimmy coming off a SB season over a Tom Brady who looked like he was playing his worst football and about to be 43 years old.

They even admitted that Brady was better but you don't make that move. You love to use hindsight and scour every little thing possible to blame Shanahan for everything. The Stafford story is junk, you found one Lions based report that tried to stick it to him the same you're trying.

The facts are the facts which was Rams had one of their guys as the GM of the Lions. There was a connection with McVay and they clearly went for it. Shanahan can't force something to happen that wasn't going to happen. If he's told nothing is going down and then Rams sneak in and get the deal done with a former employee now on the inside who has a connection with the franchise QB they're getting as part of the deal there isn't anything you can do about it.

You tried to paint the picture like they didn't want Stafford which was BS. You tried to pain the picture that they didn't want Rodgers which was BS.

Pretty much all your posts are that.

And yes I don't care about Mahomes. I'm not living in hindsight land. Mahomes wasn't even the first QB drafted that year and teams gave the Chiefs s**t for drafting him as early as they did. That's what we call hindsight.

That's where you live. The majority of us are here in reality. I recommend you visit and see how it goes someday.

Cool to see, and one of the reasons why Kyle is such a great coach. It's true that each great player has to start somewhere, with an opportunity. That's what I love about football, you never know who will become the next great player.
Kyle seems to get the best out of his players, and I think big things are coming for Bethune

Here's some more junk

Via Breer:

The Niners talked to the Lions in Mobile, but at the time were a little lukewarm and never made an official offer. They'd planned to circle back with Detroit after the weekend, but when things escalated Saturday and the Lions called back, the price had gone beyond what they were willing to offer (in part because they're fine going forward with Jimmy Garoppolo). My sense is the 12th pick was never going to be offered.

reading DrL and 9yo discuss anything Niners with each other is like watching a sequel to a Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels buddy movie
a quote by Frank Gore from an article today,

"as long as we got him, we have a shot. I don't want our top guys to get injured, but as long as Kyle Shanahan isn't injured and he can be there on Sunday's we got a chance to get a W. "

pretty much how I've been feeling even with all these injuries.
ok, that's enough Kyle praise from me for one day

This in no way reads what you claim. There is a reason you didn't post the link to the article and picked only that blurb which btw includes Breer's opinion.

It excludes that Stafford's preferred destination was the Rams or the fact that Brad Holmes was one of the guys who drafted Goff and was the GM for the Lions making the move. 49ers didn't have a Jared Goff to offer up along with the extra picks.

You can't have a genuine conversation about the subject when you choose to project these absurd things.

Where is your "Shanahan didn't want Rodgers" narrative support?

Guess the 49ers were so fine going forward with Garoppolo that they traded to #3 overall just a while after that article dropped?
After 8 full seasons I'm still seeing the same old 5 Lombardis in the trophy case.

That's all that matters.
