The mocks and boards I've been reading are driving me crazy! McShay has the niners passing on OG Nelson, LB R Smith, OLB Edmunds, and DE Davenport to take CB Ward. Not sure that is believable but perhaps I just am under rating Ward.

Overpay for him. But the Centers and remaining OGs...on PFF don't grade out better than what we have now. It has been an eye opener how few and far between top dollar quality is there. Not enough for us, for sure. Still , Norwell comes up, I would jump on that with both feet. But the rest? Wow, what an abundance of disappointment. Going thru the film on these guys who were getting touted not too very long ago....GACK...i don't want 'em. So draft it is. If our top guy is there on OL, Nelson, we draft him . No question. But if not, hey, i'm fine with trading down but only to get more OLs. CBs, LBs, ERs...as bad as we need them, we gotta plug that OL first. I thot initially fA would do it..WRONG!
So now we are going to have to do what a majority was in not if favor of to start. ...and that is get 3 yr trained pros to come in and fix the OL. Welp, they ain't there, unless we want to trade set of GOODYEARS for a set of B F GOODRICHs.. And that makes no sense. So sure if our guy isn't there at 9-10, you bet, back up, but not out of the money. That is a good question tho. Just HOW FAR back do we go. Sure it depends if we can swap #9 for a starting CB and LB for us. If John could pull that off , my hat is off to him. But still we got OL troubles and the first Center that could start....we gotta take him. If he is a Kilgore quality, no thanks. But true value, yes. Just a guess, but getting 3, maybe 4 picks in rd 2....that apppeals to me. Still i am a novice in NCAA football, so there are many better than I to hazard a guess here.

$975K by cutting Don Jones
Remember that if the 49ers want to avoid paying Jimmie Ward $8.526M, he needs to pass a physical before March 14th, when his 2018 salary is GTD for the season.

I'm comfused, AB. You say that if the Niners want to avoid paying Jimmie $8.526M he needs to pass his physical or fail his physical?

Pass so they can cut him with zero dead money.if he fails then he's definitely back. Moves to CB, maybe safety if Tartt moves to LB in nickel. Not the end of the world.

Yeah, We certainly picked a bad time to be the prime destination for free agents. There are no Deion Sanders on the market willing to play for the veteran minimum. No edge rushers, one great OL, average LB class, weak WR and RB class, and the deepest unit, CB, has no true lock down CB.
*sigh*
To the draft we go...
