Actually, I take that back...Staley gave up 2 sacks. One to Bennett and one to the wife beater on a near safety. He took the outside guy and let the inside guy come clean.
How did he get an 86.8 grade?

Seriously...I'm not a fan mostly.
PS: He also got beat badly inside by Richardson that decapitated Hoyer and almost took out Trent Brown. These grades are a joke. I love Staley but come the f**k on, PFF.

Early review:
Solomon Thomas - flashes athleticism but seems miscast at edge but not stout enough inside yet either; learning several positions
Rueben Foster - superstar talent that raises everyone's play but injuries again
Ahkello Witherspoon - inactive and probably needs a full year of development anyway
C.J. Beathard - won the #2
Joe Williams - inactive but no rush with Hyde (currently #1 in yards) and Breida and Mostert on ST
George Kittle - playing through 3 injuries but you can see the talent and mismatch
Trent Taylor - starting to acclimate and you can see the talent
D.J. Jones - playing very well
Pita Taumoepenu - inactive but developing
Adrian Colbert - already our #1 gunner and good depth at FS
Taylor is #5 in punt returns, Bolden Jr. #6 even after not playing game 1 and Pinion leads the NFL in punts inside the 20.
If our first 5 draft picks start to produce, this could end up being a terrific draft.
PS: Love the Matt Breida and Lorenzo Jerome pickups as well.

Great breakdown. Very nice to see it this way. This team is progressing nicely. Just have to have patience

I'm very curious about Zuttah. Many posters assured me there was no need to draft a center because he would fill that role. What happened? Center is such an important position I'm extremely disappointed they did not draft a potential replacement for Kilgore. Is Beadles the reason they didn't? Magnuson? What's plan B after Zuttah?

That was my biggest off season disappointment. He had pro bowl level experience in this system and now he's done in the NFL. He could have been a huge saving grace for this OL.
That said, I do like Magnuson...he beat out both Flynn and Barnes.
Kilgore is just

Certainly...they probably need to figure out a home for Thomas and let him just focus 100% on it...master it. Witherspoon needs 18 months like his coach said but he's got a future here as does Williams. I'm looking forward to Foster coming back and seeing the backfield and sideline to sideline presence.
BeatHard might see snaps this year.

They may be developing all the DL so they can play multiple positions and make matching up a nightmare for opposing offenses. That would be old school and wonderful to watch.

I don't typically have an issue with that but I prefer specialists, not general practitioners. And in this defense, while it's smart to cross train, this isn't the hardest defense to step into another position if injuries occur...1 gap.
But every snap a rookie takes at another position is extra time away from his skill set and focus.
This is why Jones is looking great right now. He's learning one position behind a veteran to learn from and that's it. 100% focus on mastering the NT position.
I was never a fan of players switching between end and interior.

Depends on the players for me. Tall guys like Buckner and Armstead can be a headache inside on passing downs, but I'd rather see Mitchell and/or DJ Jones inside on run downs. If the tall guys can't get to the QB at least they can get their arms up to bat balls. Then Harold, Tank and Dumervil can be effective from the outside...maybe. So far, it looks like this DL will be very good against the run, OK pushing the pocket, but not great at closing on the QB. So they will need to try and scheme a pass rush.
Edit: the only specialists I like are pass rushers, but they need to be good at contain as well or team will eat them alive.
