Fun years... average safeties with big hit ability. Game has changed and those guys couldn't cut it in coverage.

Especially true with Whitner, Goldson wasn't too bad in coverage imo

We could put the solid in coverage label for Goldson... just kinda fell off quickly after he got that fat contract from the Bucs.
Some good height at CB:

Johnson--62"
Robinson--6'1"
Witherspoon--6'3"

Excellent height on the DL:

Buckner--6'7"
Arnstead--6'7"
Thomas--6'3"
Mitchell--6'3"

Not sure these guys will all start but the team does have some interesting size advantage if they do.
We are tall. I like tall players.

The OL averages around 6'5" so there is that...

Don't forget Lynch(6'6").

Most teams try to avoid having a defensive line as tall as ours. Being tall presents an intrinsic leverage disadvantage, and football is a game predicated on leverage.

Low man wins.

Here's my updated roster outlook:

Locks(Unless something drastic happens):

1. QB 2 Brian Hoyer (Obvious starter, knows KSs Offense)
2. QB 7 Matt Barkley (Makes it unless something crazy happens)
3. QB 3 C.J. Beathard (Not going anywhere, was only QB KS wanted to draft)
4. RB 28 Carlos Hyde (Starter IMO, with Williams as the #2 back)
5. RB 32 Joe Williams (Obvious #2 RB, and a favorite of both KS and RB Coach Turner)
6. RB 22 Tim Hightower (Knows KSs System, plus a good veteran to have)
7. FB 44 Kyle Juszcyzk (More than a FB, can be a TE, H-Back, can't wait to see him play)
8. WR 15 Pierre Garcon (Obvious #1 WR, knows KSs system)
9. WR 17 Jeremy Kerley (Starter at the Slot WR spot, plus best WR from 2016's team)
10. WR 11 Marquise Goodwin (Starts opposite Garcon on the outside)
11. WR 19 Aldrick Robinson (#4 WR, knows KSs system)
12. WR 81 Trent Taylor (Looking good in OTAs, speedster, could be a Return man)
13. TE 82 Logan Paulsen (Should be one of the top 2 TEs
14. TE 85 George Kittle (Loved this pick, didn't have a ton of receptions, but when he got the ball he made plays, TDs, etc..)
15. C 58 Jeremy Zuttah (Perfect for the system, plus a great trade to swap 6ths this year)
16. C 67 Daniel Kilgore (Unless Tim Barnes outshines him, Kilgore is the #2 C, or even Starter, plus primary backup at both G spot)
17. LG 68 Zane Beadles (I don't care what PFF says, he was one of our best OL last year, he played LG, LT, and C, and looks good to me, he gets too much flack)
18. RG 65 Joshua Garnett (Obvious starter, depends on whether it's Left or Right side, same for Beadles)
19. LT 74 Joe Staley (One of the best LTs in the NFL)
20. RT 77 Trent Brown (Starter for now, battles with Gilliam for RT job)
21. RT 76 Garry Gilliam (#2 RT, Swing Tackle for now, battling with Brown for RT job)
22. DE 94 Solomon Thomas (Should be a starter day 1)
23. DE 91 Arik Armstead (I view him as the LEO day 1)
24. DE 98 Ronald Blair (I think Blair can play DE, DT and LEO)
25. DT 99 DeForest Buckner (Starter at the DT spot)
26. DT 92 Quinton Dial (Backup tp Bucker and Mitchell on gamedays IMO, unless something drastic happens)
27. NT 90 Earl Mitchell (Starting NT day 1)
28. NT 96 D.J. Jones (Makes it to develop, probably inactive on gamedays, then in 2018 he is the primary backup NT with Dial possibly gone)
29. OLB 51 Malcolm Smith ($11.5M Fully GTD, not going anywhere yet, can get out after 2017 with a Post June 1 cut next offseason, probably starts)
30. OLB 56 Reuben Foster (Probably is main backup to begin if Brooks makes the team, starter if Brooks is cut)
31. OLB 54 Ray-Ray Armstrong (I don't see this being a good cut, he can play OLB, is a key ST'er, and even play some Safety if needed)
32. OLB 97 Dekoda Watson ($1M Bonus, 3yr deal, familiar with the new system, he makes it IMO)
33. MLB 53 NaVorro Bowman (I don't get why they would deal Bowman, he's still the best MLB in the game IMO, and best all around LB when healthy, he got hurt in 2013-14 NFC Title game, missed 2014, played all of 2015, got hurt on non contact play in 2016, should be back)
34. MLB 50 Brock Coyle (Makes it as a backup but more so as a key ST'er)
35. CB 33 Rashard Robinson (#1 CB, has making of being an All Pro/Pro Bowl CB)
36. CB 41 Ahkello Witherspoon (I see him as the #2 CB sooner or later)
37. CB 36 Dontae Johnson (To me he is a lock, so some Reaser is, I like Johnson since he can play Safety as well, he did at NC State If I remember correctly)
38. CB 24 K'Wuan Williams (Starter at the NCB spot)
39. CB 23 Will Redmond (Backup NCB, could end up being starter at NCB at some point)
40. FS 25 Jimmie Ward (Option was picked up for 2018, starter for sure)
41. FS 20 Don Jones (Makes it, has $750K Fully GTD, key ST'er)
42. SS 35 Eric Reid (Fully GTD 5th Year Option, starts at SS/Box Safety)
43. SS 29 Jaquiski Tartt (Makes it for now, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't, reports seem to suggest he isn't getting many reps)
44. PK 9 Robbie Gould (Makes it, $1M GTD, a solid K)
45. P 5 Bradley Pinion (No other P in camp)
46. LS 86 Kyle Nelson (No other LS in camp)

Battling for Spots:

1. RB 26 Kapri Bibbs (Lynch insisted on him being thrown into the draft day trade, so I see him as front runner as #4 back)
2. RB 49 Matt Breida (I love this kid, I'm rooting for him to make it)
3. WR 10 Bruce Ellington (Has to prove he is back healthy, even then, I see better players ahead of him)
4. WR 1 Victor Bolden (I like him a lot, could be 6th WR if we keep 6)
5. WR 6 Kendrick Bourne (I him as well, could be the 6th WR)
6. WR 4 DeAndre Carter (Sounds like a good player, fighting for 6th spot if we keep 6)
7. WR 13 Aaron Burbridge (I think he battles, but misses out, and is an odd man out)
8. WR 18 DeAndre Smelter (Similar to Burbridge and Ellington, better players ahead of him, but he gets a chance)
9. TE 89 Vance McDonald (I can see them cutting him, I don't see any team taking on a $2.1M Fully GTD base, plus 4 additional years salary, and ending up getting anything good in return for him)
10. TE 46 Cole Hikutini (My favorite as the #3 TE)
11. TE 88 Garrett Celek (Goner most likely, $1M GTD, but still, I'd eat that, and keep the better TE in Hikutini)
12. TE 84 Blake Bell (Competes, but I'd rather have a real TE, not a ex-QB turned TE, even though I like Bell a lot, and if I had to choose between Him, Vance and Celek, I'd choose Bell, but I like Hikutini more)
13. C 61 Tim Barnes (Likely on a Minimum deal, would need to outshine Kilgore to make it, but battles for a possible 9th OL spot)
14. OG 63 Brandon Fusco (Only thing I know is he has a $1M base salary, so they like him, I think he's the favorite as the 8th OL)
15. OT 71 John Theus (Needs to be given a chance, I like him, battles for a possible 9th OL spot)
16. OT 62 Erik Magnuson (I love Magnuson, he can play T, G, and C, I think he played 3 of the the 5 OL spots at UM)
17. DE 95 Tank Carradine (He has $1M GTD, but this is it, either show up, or eat the $1M, and cut him)
18. DE 59 Aaron Lynch (Came in overweight, but they said in right direction, hopefully he gets it back, and makes it, I love Lynch)
19. DE 45 Pita Taumoepenu (Battles for a backup spot, I'd take him over Tank, and Lynch if he doesn't get it under control)
20. DT 93 Chris Jones (He could make it over Dial if Dial is less than impressive, as they save $450K Post June 1 cutting Dial)
21. OLB 55 Ahmad Brooks ($5.2M saved if cut, but reports say he looks good, I'd rather keep someone effective even on a 1yr deal, than someone younger(on 1yr deal) who just hasn't gotten it, or can't get in shape)
22. OLB 57 Eli Harold (Needs to show something, not too optimistic on Harold)
23. OLB 47 Jimmie Gilbert (I'm putting him here because of the $62K GTD, likely PSqaud destined, I like him as a sleeper)
24. CB 27 Keith Reaser (Like with Johnson, some see Reaser as a lock, right now he's getting starter reps, but we'll see, I like Johnson more)
25. FS 38 Adrian Colbert (Likely fighting with Jerome for a backup DB spot, can play CB and FS)
26. FS 49 Lorenzo Jerome (I love this kid, should have been drafted, not sure his GTD money yet, he's my favorite to make it over Colbert)

Long Shots:

1. QB 1 Nick Mullens (Got $20K GTD, but would need to look better than Barkley, which isn't impossible, but more likely PS destined)
2. RB 31 Raheem Mostert (Uphill battle, PS if eligible)
3. FB 47 Tyler McCloskey (Camp FB, PS maybe)
4. WR 14 Rashad Ross (Camp WR)
5. WR 83 B.J. Johnson III (Camp WR, PS maybe if he looks good)
6. OG 69 Richard Levy (Camp OL, possible PS)
7. OG 60 John Flynn (Camp OL, possible PS)
8. OG 64 Evan Goodman (Camp OL, got $7,500 GTD, probably PS destined for 2017)
9. OT 75 Darrell Williams (Camp OL, got $10 GTD, probably PS destined for 2017)
10. OT 78 Norman Price (Only PS player from last year back, likely camp body only)
11. DE 66 Noble Nwachukwu (Probably PS, not sure on GTD money, could surprise though)
12. OLB 48 Donavin Newsom (Camp LB, probably PS in 2017)
13. CB 30 Prince Charles Iworah (Camp CB, maybe PS)
14. CB 31 Zach Franklin (Camp CB, possible PS)
15. FS 46 Malik Golden (Camp S, likely PS, got $15K GTD)
16. SS 43 Chanceller James (Camp S, maybe PS)
17. SS 40 Vinnie Sunseri (Camp S, maybe PS if eligible)
18. PK 6 Nick Rose (Camp leg)

I'm most interested in finding out what the UDFAs got for GTD money, as well as Barnes and Fusco's 1yr deals.

This is why I loved the pick of Jones! You are correct about leverage but Armstead showed he could stand up a double team and hold them at the LOS. Buckner had more difficulty, but was a rookie. I am hoping Jones gets a lot of time in the middle. Mitchell might help as well. But as much as leverage is lost, height is an advantage in getting those hands in the passing lanes or reaching over the blockers. Best talent usually wins...whatever the size.

Edit: my major question for the DL is--do they fit the 4/3? If they do then I expect three top picks to pay dividends.

Great list. I love what Shanahan & Lynch are doing with this roster

Thanks, of the 46 I listed I can see the following losing roster spots, if they don't play well in preseason.

QB Barkley
C Kilgore
DT Dial
CB Johnson
SS Tartt

That would leave me with 41 locks, leaving 12 spots open. I'm almost ready to put Reaser as a lock, since he's getting #1 reps opposite Robinson.

I know Tartt seems like a WTF?, But if true that he isn't getting the reps, I can see Jerome and Colbert making it, and Tartt cut, I think Shanahan and Lynch will cut whatever fat is on the roster, even if it means cutting former 2nd rd picks(Vance, Tank, Tartt) or guys with GTD salaries(Vance again, Celek, Tank again, Dial). I don't think they're afraid to eat some cap room, even though they would save cap room by cutting them, just minimal, they'd just eat the GTD money, which could be recouped if they sign elsewhere, and we get credits in 2018. I'm thinking of making my mock 53 man roster soon, but I'm waiting on UDFAs numbers, and Fusco and Barnes numbers, I only know base salaries, I feel like with a $1M base, Fusco is locked in as long as he looks good.

Edit: Here are my sleeper or guys from the UDFAs I think may or will make the team, basically they have the best shot IMO.

RB Matt Breida
WR Kendrick Bourne
WR Victor Bolden
TE Cole Hikutini
OL Erik Magnuson
DE Noble Nwachukwu
OLB JImmie Gilbert
FS Lorenzo Jerome

One sleeper could be Nick Mullens, if Barkley looks bad, I'm all for having Beahard as #2 if he looks good and is getting the offense, and cutting Barkley, and keeping Mullens. Or signing another vet.
